If your life was a subject of /lit/, which artwork would you be?
Mine would be the Call of the Cthulhu, and I would be the water.
I would be delphic apollo, god of the sun, worshipped and coddled by these unworthy but willing ones.
Why isn't A.A Attanasio discussed more here? the Radix tetrad is fucking legendary-tier sci-fi

maybe that's the problem, this site is 18+
I'd wager its because no one's heard of him.
Because no one believes a fat ignatius reily type could become the ubermensch in the first book, honestly. What kind of bullshit transformation is that?

I'd like to come back and apologize for making this shitpost/meme.
You might get some good answers on /his/, they have pretty consistent threads on Orthodoxy there. I'm sure there is a /lit/ chart on Orthodoxy out there but with warosu messed up it will be hard to find.
Anyone here know of any short stories that deals with a failed artist wishing he had paid more attention to his family/friends instead of focusing on his art/career his whole life? Bonus points if it's very symbolic. Basically looking for the literary version of LCD Soundsystem's All My Friends, or the artistic version of John Cheever's The Swimmer? Or even A Christmas Carol, I guess.
Try De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period by Salinger.

Appreciate the recommendation.
I found a pdf of Nine Stories here ( http://materlakes.enschool.org/ourpages/auto/2013/2/25/50973306/Nine_Stories_by_J_D__Salinger.pdf ) if anyone is interested in reading it as well. I'd recommend A Good Day for Bananafish as well. Haven't read anything else in it though.

This anthology is a pretty good mix of horror stories posted on reddit.
I don't necessarily agree with these as the best around, but there's some good stories here.
Weird that there is a link to Gentry's 'Anchorhead' in the middle, as this is completely unrelated to it's 'best of reddit' claim.
Still for a free, public anthology -- it's worth the read.
The artwork is good but I don't know about the concept, seems too classical or something to be scary. What do you think /lit/?

How do I write a proper story? Do I just make shit up as I go along? Do I flesh out the characters first? Do I establish the general idea of the beginning, middle, and end? I do not know where to even begin with this shit. I have a few scattered ideas all over the place but it I lack the way to organize it all together.
Just gotta do a bit of cocaine a bit of ketamine and a bit of heroin for good measure. Boom. There's your story.
Come up with 2 characters. Play them off eachother to determine chemistry. If it works, go forward from there. Why are they together? Why are they apart? What do they value? Who do they encounter? Why? What are their goals?
Done.
read some of Donald maass' books in writing. They're excellent advice for beginners (and people who need a refresher on the basics)

What are the historical canon books in art education?
Like what has been historically the books artist from all arts have used to learn painting, music composition, sculpture, writing, poetry, architecture.
What books did renaissance artists used to read to learn?
How bout baroco, roccoco?
Pls, nothing from the XX century.
>baroco
*Baroque ("baroco" is a logical syllogism)
Anyway, here are some that I can think of (desu, I don't actually know much on this subject):
Aristotle - Poetics
Vitruvius - De Architectura
many renaissance painters wrote essays and books which I suppose were quite influential (Dürer, Leonardo's "Trattato della pittura"...)
critic Vissarion Belinsky had strong influence on Russian realism
But keep in mind that artists such as painters and musicians learned most of their craft from a professional who taught them. (Leonardo was taught by Verrocchio, for example, Beethoven by Haydn) So you probably won't understand an artist's education entirely from theoretical books they read.

thanks bro.
I'm aware of the atelier system, but I found it pretty weird to believe there wasn't simply some art books made by philosophers or some art admirer or any person after the printing press was invented and commonly avilable.
Let's say there should be something written in the 16-17 century, I refuse to believe people didn't wrote anything.
