Unless you plan on running a suppressor on a SBR I would avoid it. The bolt is neat and unkillable but not really necessary.

I have heard of people using the carriers in "undergassed" rifles with good results too so there is that (benefit of the delayed unlocking is higher carrier speed)

Is buying a Ruger Ar-15 acceptable at the price of $680. I want to drop out the trigger, change handguards, and I'd like to make it a more personalized rifle. I wanted to just build an AR, but a majority of the parts I want are out of stock everywhere.

Is this the AIM you're looking at? The only difference is can see in the two is that the AIM may not be HPT. The PSA is $10 more, but is HPT and MPI and I've got anecdotal evidence that they won't blow up after a couple thousand rounds.

I have built a few of their kits. I like them. Keep an eye out though. I had a couple of problems with the plastics in the kits. I am pretty sure they make most of the metal stuff in house, but the handguards seemed like they were outsourced. Had a couple that wouldn't fit. They replaced them quickly though, free of charge.
