Should I save up my shekels for a TA31 ACOG over an Aimpoint PRO? I like the 4x magnification idea for a general-purpose most-distances rifle, but the $600 different is quite a bit.

I think I arrived a few years too late to cash in on KAC RAS Seconds.
How will the Troy Drop-in stack up? I know its locking system isn't as good as the RAS, but I'm mostly concerned if it'll break when I don't want it to.
Also, it's a kinda sorta M4A1 clone, so that's important in a way. But I hear that LE6920 SOCOM comes with the Troy instead of the KAC, so I guess that's something.

I'm new to ARs and gun ownership in general, but I've been doing some research and wanted to see /brg/'s thoughts on this gun. Keep in mind I'm looking for competitive sharpshooting and accuracy here.

This is an Anderson Manufacturing AM15-3G-Elite. What was highly interesting about Anderson's rifles is that some of them, including this particular model, claim to require no lubrication down the barrel due to the metal being impregnated with calcium (RF-85 treatment). Because of the use of no oil, I don't see this thing gumming up at all, probably requires very little soap/water cleaning.

To further minimize contamination in the chamber/action/bolt carrier assembly, I was thinking about installing an Adam's Arms gas piston conversion kit. I'm also unsure of how well the gas piston system works, but it makes sense to me to remove as much contamination from the critical parts of the gun as possible.

I need your advice:
1) Am I retarded?
2) Suggestions for what kinds of equipment I should be looking for on a rifle
3) DI or Gas Piston? Apparently this is a controversial subject.

I am in a similar boat. I have a magpul ASC-L stock which serves me find but I hear that the B5 Enhanced Soon of is GOAT. For that price I would buy it, just don't know how much I can trust BoTach.

Anyone have any experience with ghost firearm uppers? They're cheap as fug and lgs has one so I'm tempted on trying one out

1) Yes, everything you just stated as a plus is too good to be true. Also, lube in the bore is good for storage, but it is better to shoot a dry bore. Why? Something to do with oil burn-off and shit affecting accuracy
2)A good scope and maybe a bi-pod if you're benchresting it.
3) DI, you dip. Piston ARs are notorious for things like carrier tilt and overheating at the gas block. DI was the original design. Piston ARs are just what happens when AK-fags come and spread their cancer. Get a DI, keep it clean, run the right buffer and bam, you have an awesome gun.

Thank you for the response. Alright, I should probably not really focus on this RF-85 treatment stuff as something that I 'must have' in the rifle. Probably going to do a small magnification scope, want to keep the gun light so that it's easy to fire from standing position. Also, sure, DI is probably not a bad deal. The Gas piston system feels like it has a lot of perks... I'll need to do more research.

Picked up a Windham weaponry MPC M4 a few days ago.

I went in there to get a Colt LE6920, but the guy at the counter pretty much condemned colt for their terrible quality in recent years, and terrible business practice.

Do you think that what I got compares to the LE6920? I got it on sale and walked away spending a little less than $900.

I'm looking for an optic for my fucked up A4 inspired frankengun.

Would a Comp M4S be worth it? I only really shoot out to 300 yards max and that's recreationally. The rest of the time it's on a mule or somewhere handy handling homestead defense.

Any recommendations on slings would also be appreciated.

Even though its not a huge deal considering they both have a ridiculous battery life I like that the comp m4 is 80,000 vs 50,000 and off a more common battery. Granted its not like wal mart doesn't have them but I kinda like the idea of being able to get my optic back up with tv remote batteries in the worst possible situation.

I'm seeing the Mark AR for around $400, which puts the PA 1-8x in the same ballpark (it's $360ish). The Crossfire is $120 most places I'm seeing it, meaning the $280 Strike Eagle falls between it and the Mark AR quite nicely.

So you get your choice of a better-than-Crossfire, cheaper-than Mark-AR Strike Eagle right in the middle price-wise, or a decent scope with twice the magnification for $20-40 cheaper than the Leupold.
