I'm drunk and listening to and reading a lot of creepypasta/spoopy stories.
A lot of it boils down to people being in their house or out and about and being the target of some strange individual or whatnot.
Being a fairly well stocked and semi-experienced gun owner I cringe when stories end up with basically this:
>I retreat to my bathroom and call the police who say they'll be there in 10 minutes
Thankfully I've never been in such a situation, but I've just been thinking about how glad I am to live in such a free state where I have guns throughout the house - never leaving me in a situation where I'd be defenseless (apart from the bathroom, still need to get a Hi-Point and a vacuum seal machine).
Anyway.
Post feels that you get in situations when you were glad to be armed. Whether it be just times you hear something go bump in the night or times you've had to draw your carry weapon.
I've pointed the AR at the door while somebody tried to kick it in.
Same with people coming into my house at night.
Drew down on folks for work, responding to burglary alarms etc.
Haven't had to shoot anybody, thankfully. Came pretty close a few times.

Am OP.
The most recent, notable event was about a month or two ago.
I live in a house in suburbia with a roommate, who is my closest friend that I've known since 7th grade and we have both owned guns since were like 12.
I usually work pretty late and it's pretty common for me to get home past midnight, he works a normalfag 9-5 sort of gig. Usually keep the door unlocked until I get home.
So one night, get off work, around midnight. His truck is in the driveway and his light is off in his room so I assume he's asleep - lock the door behind me.
Around 2-3AM, hear the doorbell ring. Freak out. From time to time when he gets locked out, he'll either frantically ring the doorbell or hold it down - this did not sound like him.
Grab revolver, check the sliding glass door to make sure it's latched, make my way to the front door.
I can see it's him through the glass in the door and let him in just before I have to tactically shit myself.
His buddy had picked him up and they went out drinking.

Holy fuck, I just heard one that was worse than anything I've ever heard - worse than the damn "just rack you shotgun" meme.
On an unrelated note, my manager at work mentioned that he had been woken by a knock on his door at 11PM. Instead of doing the reasonable thing and answering the door with a pistol up to the door, he just went up and looked who it was through the peephole.
I had interrupted him and exclaimed "that's a situation where you check the door with a pistol up against the door!"
He called me an insane, paranoid redneck.
srsly tho, who the fuck goes to answer the door in the middle of the night without the slightest bit of defensive provisions?
How many of you guys have shot someone?

I shot 30 feet above someone once. Laughed as he screamed when dove shot fell down on him.

What made the Panzer so great versus other tanks? Is it true that Sherman's were almost useless against them?
I don't want to be convinced by the History Channel, so I'd like some clarification here.
Depends really, panzer just translates into tank from german. The panzer 1 and 2 were just more scout tanks with very little armor and poor armament. The panzer 3 and 4 were basically equivalent to the sherman and T34 in most aspects. The panzer 5 was mobile and had exceptionally armored and outperformed allies medium tanks pretty easily. The panzer 6 tiger 1 was exceptional when it was introduced in 1943 but became lees effective later in the war. The panzer 6 tiger 2 was probably the most heavily armored and well armed tanks in the war, so it outperformed basically anything but had poor mobility and reliability.
Mostly it was superior crews, radios and aggressive tactics. The panzers themselves weren't that great. Especially early in the war when Panzer 1 and 2's were well outclassed by British and French tanks in both size and numbers and then later when Panzer 3 and 4's started encountering Russian KV-1's and T-34/76's.
The Sherman was one the best medium tanks of the war along with the T-34/85* and in no particular order: the Panther, Panzer IV and the Comet. It was of course outclassed by German heavy tanks, but that is rather the point of a heavy tank. The two-bit "historians" on the History channel will have you believe that the Sherman remained the same all through the war, that it never received upgrades to it's gun, armor or suspension and will regularly regurgitate the German propaganda about it burning at the slightest provocation, usually pointing to the fact that it used a gas engine while disregarding that German tanks also used gas. In reality Shermans burned no more often than any other tank and most brew-ups were caused by the main gun propellant. Which is why you'll often see a square of additional armor welded to the sides of many Shermans.
*The T-34/85 and Sherman EZ8 clashed in the Korean war, they were quite similar overall but the Sherman had an advantage in crew quality and the optics of it's main gun meaning that it usually came out on top in an engagement. How it would have went if the Soviets and the US clashed at the end of WW-2

I did. Didn't find any good results.
Don't know, but I was always told to keep it away from my neck. Guess why
I know you can get anything into anywhere somehow, there's always a loophole
What would be the best way for a civilian Australian to get a rifle into Australia, without being flagged by customs, popo or feds?
>>29896789
Apply for license, purchase rifle, I've purchased numerous rifles without customs, the popo or feds bothering me.
>>29896789
What a well sourced image you have there.
The abos are out of fucking control. They need to be culled.
Two days ago, I lost a duck to turtles (yes, TURTLES!!) in my pond. Last night, I found a 6 foot snake in the hen house, which I dispatched with an axe (although not before it struck at me twice).
So, I'm finally ready to buy a varmint gun like my wife has been begging me for the past 5 years.
I'm an ex-Marine weapons platoon sgt who fired high expert with his M-14 or M-16 at the rifle range four years straight, so I know about guns and how to handle them. However, I've never owned a weapon as a civilian so know little about civilian weaponry, and I doubt they will let me rustle up and M-14.
So here I am for advice. What's a good all-purpose rifle for varmints? I need one for snakes, coons, possums, and turtles, maybe a coyote. We have bobcats around here but they don't tend to come up close enough to the house to worry about.
I don't need one for home protection, since that is not something I tend to worry about. Just a good, all 'round varmint killer.
Types of guns would be good (22, shotgun, etc), but brands would be nice to know about as well. I figure some may be more reliable or accurate than others.
So, what's your choice of weapons when it comes to killing critters?
AR-15
My trolldar is tingling...
A used single barrel H&R or Mossberg 500 are probably the cheapest options. .410 is perfectly adequate for critters.
/k/ i just got back from a defensive handgun course,
>drawing from holster and firing
>reloads under stress
>shooting from cover
>shooting while moving.
my instructor asked that we shout while we shoot to vocalize under fire
things like :
>stop
>dont move
>drop it
>you call 911 etc
he recommended to keep from saying violent things and using vulgarity because the witnesses might portray it differently later on. but thinking of you all i wanted to know what some fun things to yell while at the range training or actually in a defensive situation
tl;dr- what are funny things to yell while shooting paper or kebab/basketball

Didn't find a fitting thread, so here we go.
Is there a gun where the trigger is above the barrel?
Why don't more firearms use helical magazines?
Why is the mateba design, where the barrel is on the 6 position of a revolver so rare? Does the claim it helps accuracy not hold up?
Is the gun in the picture all hype, or the dislike some people have of it is production issues?
some one tell me that the fuck the purpose of this is

It's good for hiding Monsters from dickholes with shiny bits that like to ruin your fun. It shoots smoke to hide the tank.

sup /k/, I'm a POG in the Army and I know next to nothing about guns that aren't standard issue (249, M4, M9, etc). My mom's home got broken into yesterday (happy mother's day) and she ran out of her house after seeing someone break in. She needs a handgun. I'll take her to the range but I need something that operates simply and smoothly, and has minimal recoil. Price isn't an issue. What do you recommend?
tl;dr What's a basic handgun (besides the M9) for an amateur shooter?

Walther PPQ in .45
Easy to use, comfy, not too expensive, big rounds lend confidence.

38 special revolver. Easy, cheap, hard to mess up. 80 year old great grandma blew away a home invader with one this week.
Any manufacturer than Taurus shit. I'd do a 4" barrel. Model 10 trade in is a great option. Also for real thank you for your service.
Which country/force that wasnt part of the "Big 5" contributed most towards the war effort (on either side) in WWII?
The pacific theater was pretty much entirely the US, with Aussies and the Brits holding onto what they already had, but Im not so sure about the European theater.
Im leaning towards Eastern European partisan fighters in Poland and such. It wasnt a "formal" army or anything, but they disrupted a lot of supplies and forced the Germans to allocate significant resources to anti-partisan activities.
If not them then maybe the Finns? They managed to occupy Russia for a LOT of time especially considering what they had.
Thoughts /k/?

The Polish put themselves under British command and did themselves proud, they flew under the RAF, ran POW camps and went in with regular British troops.

Yes.
Fire a warning shot before it charges, otherwise you may be fucked unless you have an extendo.

Absolutely OP, you should feel perfectly comfortable with this and certainly not invest in a higher-caliber weapon for bears.
