Legit would rather have it here.

I haven't browsed /a/ regularly in years. That place has been /v/ 2.0 since 2012. /int/ is still a redeemable board. I guess the best place for it would be /jp/. That's another board that's gone to shit lately, but in a different way.

Hopefully someone who's not a beginner answers you too. But basically the first の nominalizes the verb because you usually can't append a verb directly to particles like を が に, you can also do that by using こと instead. The other の emphasizes the sentence and can be used in questions too instead of か

Adding の to the end of a verb makes it a gerund, or essentially a verb's "ing" form. Think of it in English terms: you can't say "Why did you stop make out?" You have too many verbs in a row. You have to change it to "Why did you stop makING out?" Same concept.
>>
>>67939613
止めるの? this の is an emphasis to ask something.

してるの not always but this の is an abbr of 事(thing/matter). you can replace it with してる事 in that context. してる roughly means "doing". why/how come you stop ichaicha-ing?

Sticking to one word per day is too easy. Maybe two or three words will do. It's easier if you learn it root by root which is something English has very few and made the vocab harder to learn than the Japanese vocab. For example 記念:

記念場:
記念館
記念碑

記念大会:
記念式典
記念祭

記念品 / 物:
記念論文集
記念誌

Do VNs in general come with a "fast forward" button when going through scenes/routes you've already taken, allowing for an easier exploration of the alternative paths?

The only one I've ever played was that Bernd one and it was really, REALLY nice having that feature. I'm a bit assburger on the completion end and that allowed me to voluntarily kill myself multiple times just to see all possibilities. Or even going through wrong routes just for unlocking one or two additional dialogues/jokes.

I don't get where the "hate /jp/" comes from - I use /jp/ way more than I use /a/.
And I'm not pushing anything - as a matter of fact, the post where you quoted me I was saying the anon claiming he received "mod approval" was being dishonest.

Pic related is from the "Japanese thread" on /int/ you quoted, where everyone seems to agree it'd be a better place for DJTers to go and mingle.

No, like I've said buddy. It isn't ideal, but this jump that's happened is entirely unfair on /jp/ and on you guys since you've been moved off a board with ample space. There's been zero consultation or even a polite request.

And we can see that from the chucklefuck above us who are more than eager to disregard /jp/ in the process of move this general into a board that's already got more than it's fair share of generals.

From my own perspective, it's a simple case that you just don't want to interact with the wider board because you're used to your sanitised environment of /a/.

I wouldn't be dead if people here used it instead of complaining about being on /int/. I've got no problem with /int/ because it really only means another tab in the collection but for those who are so desperate to go back to /a/ I don't get why they don't go to one of the other /a/ boards on another imageboard. There are a fair few imageboards with their own /a/ which would be pretty much the same as it was a less than a week ago.

Why do you say that? They've been having Japanese threads for over a year. They've even been having Japanese threads on wizardchan for a long time. There are a whole bunch of different places that all link back to stuff in the OP, which is why I'm puzzled at why so many anons are desperate to go to boards that don't want this thread. You can browse with more than one active tab.

It's like splitting up refugees into a bunch of different camps, there inevitably will be those who don't want to move so less to start with, and then that board in general will have less new people to populate it after oldfags leave etc.

Basically it comes down to a discussion thread with not much discussion leaves little reason to check it frequently, leading to stagnation. It might as well be a static website or message board or discord or irc or whatever other "slower" communication method of your choice, really.

>there inevitably will be those who don't want to move so less to start with, and then that board in general will have less new people to populate it after oldfags leave etc.
So? The thread is about learning Japanese, not having an ice cream social.
>Basically it comes down to a discussion thread with not much discussion leaves little reason to check it frequently, leading to stagnation
Or maybe you are too used to having hyper fast paced threads. The threads on /a/ were stupidly fast and it only encouraged shitposting because the shitposters knew they could spam a thread then come back the next day and do it all over.

>>67949935
Would you mind quoting exactly what you are responding to?
>>
So quite fundamentally, a daily Japanese learning thread isn't anime, or manga. The DJT as it exists doesn't, strictly speaking, belong on a pure /a/.

The argument against this is a poor one based more in /a/ comprising the userbase, and being the better advertisement vehicle for the thread.

That said the djt can't stay on /a/ with the same name, or the same model. It could be something like a Daily Japanese Translating thread, or something else that levies Japanese learning with something that more belongs on /a/. That at least results in a more compelling argument for it's existence, and I remember we used to kick around the idea of translating a series after the original OP finished his Genki Kanji posts so it's not entirely beyond the pale of the thread.

There problem with it being slower isn't that it's not "hyper fast paced", really. It could be moderately paced and still be okay. The fact is, the thread itself is named "quad-annual Japanese thread" to give you an idea of just how slow it is.

The current OP over there was made in July. There are usually only a couple of posts per day, sometimes it goes a few days without any posts. That is a glacial pace, hence the speed issue.

It's true it's not meant to be an "ice-cream social" but ACTIVE discussion requires a little more activity than that. Especially in the case of answering each other's questions.

As for shitposting, that is partially due to the overall lack of shits the moderation gave in regards to DJT.

It's not exactly fitting has always been the compelling argument against the threads continued existence going back to the founding when when we were getting accel-spammed. So it's at least a tad bit disingenuous to suggest that it doesn't play a part in our removal. That said I somehow doubt the mods will ban a thread that's doing something productive for the board, and chooses to follow up with a general that's more or less pointed to said original purpose(TLC, alternate TL, discussion therein).

Or that's what I'd liked to say, but then I remembered that they banned the /ak/ threads and they were actually getting shit done on a semiregular basis. However, it wasn't the stated purpose of the thread, the problem, I think, is more one of labeling, and stated purpose. If the DJT changes what it is to being more pointed I'd like to at least think that it'd be allowed.

Alright, I will now start attempting to read おまもりのひみつ, my first reading experience after 12 months of ankidroning.
My expectations are falling into hiragana hell and not being able to follow things, but we'll see.
Also the index implies it's 250 pages long - divided up in 6 chapters - but this file I downloaded from DJT contains only the first chapter. Maybe this is a compilation of several stories and this chapter stands on its own, but I will only know when I get to the end!

I'll attempt 10 pages. Ikuzoi.

I'm going to respond seriously. No, you don't. Even if you were to watch subs, they would have furigana with them. If you just focus on vocabulary, you should be able to watch anime in no time. Actually, you don't need to learn hiragana or katakana either. They will just slow you down. If you just focus on listening, it won't be hard to easily grasp what the anime characters are saying, especially since they talk so clearly. Most content for learning japanese nowadays is romanized, so it should be easy to find a competent source. Good luck!

The added caveat here is that we would become a thread about whatever it is that we are translating. In addition to this we would also be split on the selection of whatever is chosen.
>>
>>67953699
Could it not just be a thread for multiple projects?
>>
>>67953951
Sure, but that isn't the problem.

The problem becomes one of the thread being about the discussion of whatever it is we're translating by virtue of pulling in EOP's who want to see said thing translated.

So more than the content, we would need to deal with the fans, and that I could see easily inspiring the sort of offtopic shitposting over basically unliked insignificant things that I've come to expect from the djt.
>>
>>67954467
Right, then how about we take on a chapter of a random untranslated manga (that's guaranteed to not have EOP fans) per thread. It would go

>(djt resources)

1. We would produce board related content
2. We would encourage japanese learning

I recommend only mining words if you have seen them at least 2-3 times for two reasons. First, It eliminates the really rare words and let's you focus on the more common ones. Second, there are some words that you will learn after only seeing them a few times. So if you see it the 3rd time and you already know it, you don't have to mine it.

Yeah it's just a trade off. If you're coming across 100 new words in an hour of reading, then that's enough that the words won't stick out as much, and reading is painful. It's when you have high comprehension that the words stick out more. So maybe the real suggestion is: If you are coming across that many new words, just read something easier. NHK news easy or something. Aim to come across less than 50 new words a day in reading, and if you don't mine enough words for the day then fill in the rest with Core vocab.

Bullshit. I hope you're reading this mod, because you're an autistic piece of shit. Generals are usually cancer because they devolve into memes and shitposts when there's nothing to discuss. DJT isn't a general because it constantly has an ongoing topic to discuss(learning japanese). The fact that you moved it to fucking int of all places shows you don't give a fuck and you just wanted a conversation you didn't take part in off of /a/,

Move this back to /a/. the only person who doesn't want this there is you you asspie piece of shit.

Oh, and good going being too much of a mouth breather to admit to the guy asking about it that you were the one to move it.
>>
>>67959380
>DJT isn't a general because it constantly has an ongoing topic to discuss(learning japanese).

How does this differ from other Generals? They have some basic topic to discuss, but it's too broad, and well, general, and as a consequence of being too frequent, is being a barely on topic circlejerking memefest.
>>
>>67959597
None of what you said is true. Its a general in the sense that it happens frequently. But what makes a general harmful is the circlejerk. Which isn't present in DJT.

And the process of learning Japanese isn't a basic broad topic. Its specific.

>Discuss naruto or whatever nevermind that this is the fourth thread in an hour
>Help each other learn japanese. This is the only thread for this today.
>>
>>67959597
Also, if you think the latter half of your post is the case. Then mods should ask the people in the threads to clean it up, rather than shoving it onto some other board.

DJT are a staple of /a/. Taking that away because some people aren't behaving is bad moderation.
>>
>>67959684
But those threads last for a much shorter duration and fall off. Saying it's the only thread for this today is misleading because it's practically always there, and even when the discussion is dead someone will intentionally bump it with usually a bad post.

>>67957956

>>
>>67959684
>>67959769
It's a general in the sense that it's a general discussion. Unpointed, and unspecific, and while we do a decent job of mitigating our circlejerk it still exists within the DJT. Albeit to lesser extent than some generals that are being allowed on /a/.

This leads me to the next point, the problem with the DJT isn't that it's a general, or that it's offtopic too often as evidenced by the generals are still allowed on the board when we get deleted inside 10 minutes.

It's that when the DJT is on topic, it's topic is considered offtopic for the purpose of the board in the eyes of the mods/admins deleting it, and regarding what to do about this see my thoughts

>How does this differ from other Generals?
Generals with a specific series in mind (e.g. JoJo) go on even when there is NO new content to talk about.
It's a vigil, where everyone keeps chatting whatever while they wait for a hearbeat from the creators - be it a new episode, a new manga chapter, a new movie.

On the other hand, threads like DJT, Buyfag and Drawthread are infinitely ongoing in a non-artifficial way - there is always someone buying, drawing or learning. There is always more to talk about, with no need for shady excuses to bump a thread and keep it alive.

If mods would notice this simple thing, they could have written proper rules, instead of that shitty list that they aren't even following, taking a piss on DJT and letting Tumblrinas post their shit away on Drawthreads and the Buythread to have a guide, while merely pasting the DJT guide UPON REQUEST has led to ban/deletion on translation threads.

So much butthurt and partiality, and they have gone entirely silent, since they KNOW they would end up contradicting themselves if they made any declarations..

It's not too terribly different. It's not like we are exactly fonts of original Japanese language learning discussion, and if your view is that that sort of discussion is off topic, then we are never on topic in the way that the JoJo general(or whatever) is occasionally on topic(when there's something new to discuss).

I think they've declared, maybe not from hiro's mouth, but from that admin post, that the permission that allowed the djt to exist on /a/ has been rescinded, on the grounds of removing these recurring, off topic threads. More than the particularly circlejerky generals that are still allowed, what bothers me is the buyfag general getting the pass. In this new vision for the site shouldn't that go to /jp/ too?

I really hope this migration doesn't stick. I don't come to DJT nowadays, but it was pretty much my first thread on /a/ and 4chan in general. It sold me on this place not just being a complete shithole. I feel indebted to this thread in a way.
Then again, I didn't learn Japanese, and I slowly stopped coming here, so maybe it wasn't as good for me as I thought it was. But it was probably my own laziness and stupid practices at fault.
In any case, while I can't call myself a part of you anymore, I hope you guys either return home to /a/, or find a place, however unlikely it is, that will be better for you than /a/ (better objectively, not based on some dumb "my dictionary says this doesn't belong here" thing).
Good luck, DJT.

>>
- Thread is full of flagposting
- /int/ doesn't like us and /int/ denizens that end up in here just shitpost even more
- Shitposters shit up any remotely japanese related thread on /a/ including raw manga threads, just because DJT got moved
- False flaggers got to damage DJT's reputation even more by spamming new threads over and over
- Now people that pretend that /int/ is a board for language learning (it's not) instead of a culture blogging board are validated
- /a/'s quality did not improve at all
- /jp/ did the opposite of letting actual otaku culture threads in and continues to be a moderator-enforced cesspit of incompetence and exoticism

>If you want help with learning to read Japanese or if you want to practice writing/conversing in Japanese then you should post on /int/. Threads about translating raw anime & manga should be made on a per episode/chapter basis. Threads asking questions regarding the nuances of a translation should be made about a specific scene or piece of dialog. Please be specific, not general.

If you can't tell, I'm joking. Please be respectful.

I don't understand your negativity, DJT has never been more free. Before we were restricted to a single thread, but all of /a/ is our DJT now.
If you have a question just make a new thread on /a/, no need to come to /int/ anymore

>>
>>67969950
It does need to specific to understanding the work in question, and that work being anime, or manga, however. Now i wonder if those sorts of questions no longer belong on /int/ with the DJT language discussion thread.
>>
So we post Japanese anime or manga related questions on /a/ and then link them here?
Same for VN and LN related in /jp/?
>>
>>67970024
Why don't we roll with the raw manga? As long as we post random strings of japanese text when asking questions, nobody will know if its from a manga, LN, VN, or game.
Link to the guide focused on reading manga or some shit.
Other than that its pretty much business as usual, hopefully with stricter moderation.
>>
>>67970024
Yes, but we're only supposed to discuss the learning and practicing of the Japanese language here. So if your question is specifically about some detail or nuance you need clarification on you need to create a thread wherever that content is appropriate, and hope one of happens to see it.

On a more serious note, the problem with being here (besides flagposting, etc) is that the thread will have way less traffic than it did over in /a/, because most users of DJT actually browse /a/ instead of /int/. What that means, is that there are less chances of people getting their questions answered, less new users (since most people stumbled upon this thread while browsing /a/ because they share the interest in Anime & Manga), and that will end up killing this thread slowly but steadily.

DJT was sustained by community effort, after all, so if there aren't enough people, DJT has no future (at least in /int/. We'll still have to see how things work with the new format in /a/).
>>

You know what... I think I would be happy with raw manga threads. If someone were to clean up the guide to make it manga focused, I wonder if it would be okay to link to that in the OP.
>>
>>67971807
Not in the OP. Not for a while.

Until it's acceptable to put links in japanese-related thread OPs again, just post http://compellingcontent.neocities.org/ when people ask for it.
>>
>>67971807
I don't think so, that would make it a general.

I think we can direct them here for a link to the guide, and discussion pertaining to it.

I'm not pedantic about grammar, I just demand a minimum effort to put commas, capitals and punctuation. That is really basic netiquette.

My crusade against uptalk - and by extension any abuse of questions in a valley-girl fashion - has nothing to do with grammar. That's just plain annoying and a plague eating into English that I will single-handedly eradicate some day.
When I complained about it over /a/ there were always someone to agree or further explain the problem, so it's not guaranteed there are no other people, or even BRs, acting as "pedants" out there.

And I agree, there are at least 5 "frequent" Brazilians here, plus a few that showed up once just to shitpost.

Norway, Lebanon, Peru, Italy, Ireland, Singapore, Finran... those seem to be fucked now by flags.
Germany, USA, Brazil, England, Australia, Japan and Pinoys seem to have it easier as there is more than one poster.

That is all just guessing - but as our community shrinks, who is going to replenish that quota? Maybe we should just be the memers they think we are and form a fixed/closed community, like a Discord room or something. Disgusting, I know, but /int/ won't survive. We'll either part ways or hold onto what we still have - those who are not discouraged enough by the idea, that is.
>>
>>67972039
As much as we want as long as it remains about learning Japanese, which is what these threads are suppose to be. /DJT/ isn't a secret club within /a/, it's a general for learning.

Now, for the sake of LEARNING JAPANESE, please shut the fuck up about this going back to /a/ thing. Life gave you lemons, don't try to put the lemon in life's eye.

You're going to kill /djt/ entirely instead of just accepting this change and taking what you have left. You may think that /djt/ isn't worth it if it's not on your home board, but don't shove that ideology down other people's throats. k thanks

Was just deleted, while I was typing out a very related discussion response.

If something is wrong and broken, prove it by abusing it beyond all shadow of a doubt that it's broken. Follow their rules to the letter and let them throw their hissyfits, we're just doing as they've asked - they're the ones who put the retarded ass rules in place after all.
>>
>>67972524
I know, right?
>>67972503
That's not "DJT unmasked". DJT was always a raw manga thread in disguise so that people didn't come in asking to be spoonfed translations. Didn't work well, but still did something.
>>
>>67972524
That ぞい translation discussion was going places.
>>
>>67972452
>The mods banned /djt/ from /a/ because it was too off-topic
>I wonder if changing the title of the thread will help
no
you can change the title all you want, the content is still going to diverge from what's allowed on /a/.

You have two choices:
1. Stay here and just get on with life
2. Try to force yourself into /jp/

We do not belong on /a/. If you want to change the threads so that they are allowed on /a/, it won't be good anymore because it'll be more about translating certain things rather than learning the language, which is what /djt/ is suppose to be about.

Your choice, but I think that staying true to what /djt/ was suppose to be is the better option. The original OP that created /djt/ would be saddened that you're willing to change it so much just to be accepted on /a/.
>>
>>67972558
I know, it's pretty frustrating that they have their heads up their arses that far.

>>150285369
It's usually used by older men to show that they're a little bit old fashioned, but it doesn't really imply they're a geezer?

In english they would probably use something lame like a pseudo shakespearean thou type thing: I'll try my best today for sooth!
>>
>>67972567
Pointed translation discussion/outright chapter specific translation was permitted on /a/ as per the recent ruling. We'd be changing the t in djt, as well as the content of the thread.
>>
>>67972544
今日は未だ勉強しなかったけど。。。なんかもう眠いよ。せめて暗記復習のつもりがある。
>>
>>67972622
If you're going to do that then kindly discuss it somewhere else, some of us are willing to stay here in a general thread and learn the language. As soon as you admit that you want to change the threads into something new, you are no longer /djt/ and we ask that you kindly leave so we can continue our threads in peace.

I recommend an IRC so you can discuss it without the mods deleting your posts. Not even being rude right now, if that's what you want then do it but please let us have /djt/ to ourselves.

DJT was never the picture cordiality. Though I do agree that /int/ is too /pol/ for my liking. There just isn't a deal of choice in the matter.
>>
>>67972715
You could just go to the Japanese thread on /int/ instead of trying to keep djt alive
>>
>>67972825
They could at least send us to /qa/. Learning threads are ironically a perfect fit for /qa/ because they're always full of questions. /int/ is literally the worst possible choice. If they don't purge /int/'s racist offtopic garbage by fire, DJT will never have a place on it.
>>
>>67972824
Please just go to the /int/ japanese thread instead of resurrecting this aborted monstrosity.

I don't though, too much time has been invested to just let it die. I've honestly not been in the thread in the better part of 2 year though.
