Your boxes are way off. Do all the drills that are prescribed before you get to boxes. Your lines aren't parallel, they don't point to the same vanishing point or let alone straight.

Draw the vanishing point, draw your lines properly and then draw through your boxes. Follow the instructions and don't skip drills.

Fellow /beg/, do you construct when you draw heads?

I recommend trying to overlay your subject's head with Loomis/Hamm/etc' construction method.

You can check it by doing a dirty job in Paint. I don't have a pen tab and it's done well enough for me.

You can see that the neck is not enough wide; and the nose is not properly aligned. I would recommend you try drawing the ears; you can know the emplacement if you used Loomis's construction method.

Also, her shoulders are way too wide if she's a girl.

So I've found myself a teacher. Was ready to draw cubes and fundies and shit, but instead he told me to do blind contour drawings. Has anyone any tips on how can I become better at this? All my attempts are fucking pathetic.

By practicing them more. There's no shortcuts. Blind contours are a really good way to improve since the brain notices silhouettes instantly and that's essentially contours. Cubes and stuff are a bit of a meme if you don't draw beforehand. Keep it up though, blind contours won't be the end of it. It's just the basic of observational drawing before you dive into filling in the details.

It looks like you're going for a porcelain doll effect but you still need to shade in skin tones.

stop crosshatching so aggressively. make your strokes closer and lighter (they're easier to erase and you'll build up a smoother gradation transition).

overall, the composition of the body is uneven. you're not focusing on how all the different body parts relate to each other as a whole. needs more symmetry.

Hi, I'm using fun with a pencil and I finally understood how loomis heads work and it feels great. But I'm having trouble with his body anatomy. Being specific, around the hip-legs area. Can't wrap my head around it. Any tips to understanding this?

Also can I learn to draw a human being (not cartoony) using only fun with a pencil?

Okay, so I've been pencil-sketching for about two months straight now (there was only ever one day when I didn't draw something) and I'm wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to what tools I should buy/use/replace. Here's what I have so far;
. Standard sketching pad (A4, 135gsm)
. Staedtler graphite pencils.
. A size A4 easel so I don't ruin my back hunched over my pad.
. A small wooden mannequin for different poses.

Been doing Hampton's gestures exercises with references,
just some critique and direction would be nice and helpful!

I'm having a really hard time finding the strength to draw anything.
Whenever I put the pencil down, I'm plagued by thoughts of failure and reminders of how I'm so far away from where I'd like to be.
I never know if it's truly possible to get on the level of artists I venerate.

My CC let us resubmit any piece we wanted to get a better grade(I think a lot of art classes do) as long as you turn it in on time the first time.

Keep comparing all the different relationships and don't just compare local landmarks with neighboring ones. Most obvious error is visible when you compare the horizontal relationship between forehead and chin.

Do it more slowly then. Measure carefully if you can't eyeball it. Go from big to small. Contain the whole first, then subdivide. Place marks before drawing the lines.

I was trying to draw 2B from Nier, i intetionally made the thighs look large as fuck but I cant seem to figure out how to place the knee-high sock that she wears accurately, the line is supposed to be the eye-level...can anyone mark it out and let me know if there is anything wrong with the proportions and stuff?

Not him but he probably doesn't have a good reason but I do, your lines are shit. Good line work is easier to render well and bad linework is almost impossible, so if you put a bit more work into the drawing you will improve faster in the long run, cross hatching let you add basic value to a drawing without detracting from the line, same reason loomis only uses light hatch lines in the beginner sections.

You just need to internalize the planes of the head, Start with a simple version, then gradually build on that model.

What I found most helpful for drawing heads was studying skulls and drawing this:

good call on the cheekbone but that video is trash, it basically says to just draw it from an arbitrary cylinder and makes no attempt to define the position or size of the features. against loomis and hampton its incomparably bad. i think i should practice and get better at the full method of construction rather than jot out sycra-tier doodles. there is no reason not to place the eyes too even if they are bad.

that being said i can see you are more skilled than i am, so thanks for the lines and advice.

I tried practicing with Vilppu for a couple days and it feels great. The anatomy is shaky here, but the overall pose feels much more natural than my other stuff. It was initially supposed to be the character, but I got a bit carried away with the background.

I tend to absorb information better when I take some extra notes on my own! (Personally, I'm having more fun with it haha) Also, I don't really like it when they don't go in-depth enough so I make my own notes xD

So far, I've only done for the eye, nose, mouth.

I'm just a /beg/ who has more fun learning this way :)

they're trial-and-error plumb lines. just to get a hang of the proportions, you know? they're not meant for imagination drawing, but were made as i was taking notes as they make it easier for me to get a grasp(see the ratios) of where i can find the shapes. When I do studies I prefer to minimize the error margin. (I'm on mobile so it's kind of hardwr to type right now)

Really, just takes what you find useful and leave what isn't. it isn't that hard is it?

I get less sick while drawing a single or two heads and taking notes at the same time than doing a dozens of heads mindlessly for a week straight. As I have ADHD, I like doing two things twice and it's a good thing to switch from the regular art books. This is however, my way of dealing with things.

btw I'm a legit autist, I didn't make this in hope to help anybody but myself. but if someone can find a few landmarks helpful then why not? (and again I'm just beg tier like you guys so don't expect much!)

It's not meant to be linear perspective, it's meant to be isometric(ish). Dimetric or whatever it is called. Check and you will see each set of lines is perfectly parallel. He did this on purpose since for all intents and purposes it's better to treat the perspective of the head this way to keep things aligned properly.

Because that's a logical fallacy. A blending stump doesn't magically make you better. It likely helped your process of shading and blending. Blending stumps are also not recommended for beginners because they overdo it and make messy work. It's easier to just have them work patiently by layering values.

Also, as far as the value goes. It's pretty much a beginner's drawing class and the professor stressed that for each drawing he is mainly focusing on the topic we're discussing, and in these examples we were discussing line quality.

hmm, that is not bad, just make sure that your refs have good "information" on the face, and by that i mean it's not too washed out of saturated in the sense that you lose the form of the face just by looking at it. using good refs and analyzing and recreating them well will help internalize the planes of the face much easier than something like pic related. try to AVOID pic related. and always remember to draw from imagination to put what you learned to use otherwise what point is there in studying.
