Bought a new ThinkPad (x230 but with x220 keyboard)
Windows 8.1 preinstalled
shift+3 printed a £ instead of #
shift+2 printed a " instead of @
Changed windows language settings and fixed that

None of the Fn keys did anything. Most of the top keys either did nothing or had weird outputs (Delete acted like Home, PgUp and PgDn did nothing, PrtSc did nothing)

Do I just assume that the refurbished isntalled a new windows 8.1 and didn't bother to install specific drivers? Can't check right now since installing win10

Where can you find which codecs you can encode/decode with newer AMD or Nvidia GPUs, particularly Pascal and Polaris (I assume Vega is too new for this)?

The only thing I found is this from Nvidia:
https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-decode-gpu-support-matrix

But it only shows Quadro and Tesla cards. As I understand Geforce cards use the same GPUs (e.g. GP104 in both Quadro P5000 and GTX 1080/1070), but idk if the support is the same.

Also why can GP104 decode VP8 while GP102 (the supposedly better chip) can't?

Yeah the brand I work in has the same issue. If a user gives me the serial for a 5-11 year old machine you'll find that no complaints have ever been logged. I feel so fucking dumb, why isnt this working? It's a Pairwise Summation and an attempt at a Divide and Conquer Algorithm:

float sum_set(float* set, unsigned int length) {
printf("%i %f\n", length, *set);
if (length < 2)
return *set;
else
return sum_set(set, length/2) + sum_set(set+(length/2), length/2);
}

int main(int argc, char** argv) {
float* arr = malloc(argc-1);
for (int i = 1; i < argc; i++)
arr[i-1] = atof(argv[i]);

printf("\n%f\n", sum_set(arr, argc-1));

free(arr);
return 0;
}

Here's the output, I can see that *set is zero for the last branch but I don't know why. The answer should be 45, but it is instead 21.

OK so here's what's going on. Pulled an 1TB Seagate out of an old computer and it appeared to be working fine. So I formatted it to use as a storage drive then all of a sudden my comp started going slow?

Then I went through disk part commands and cleaned the entire drive of all partitions, then redid it as a new drive and shit was still slow.

I have ran scans to see if it's failing or if any errors, and it passes everything with ease. Checked boot order on BIOS and everything is still in order.

But yea, hard drive is making lots of noise like it's constantly working, despite nothing being on it. And comp is booting slower. I have no idea what's going on...

I'm trying to build an oauth2 service provider in nodejs as an exercise using oauth2orize and passport, using password-based grant

I'm drawing a complete blank at how to implement user privileges tho. All the tutorials and examples I've seen only deal with completely cutting off or completely authorizing access to a user, never to discriminate which resources he should have access to.

Based on what I know this should be what the scopes do, but I don't fully understand how to use them, and I'm not even sure that's what I want to do.

This is sort of a dumb question but I haven't slept for a day so here it goes: I've bought a 1440p 144Hz IPS gay man panel, one of those which bleed etc., mine doesn't have stuck pixels but it does bleed quite a bit. However, bleed doesn't bother me as it's minimal at a realistic brightness. However, what does bother me is the IPS glow, which is really notable on that panel, not just on a black screen, on generally any dark screen viewed in a dark room you see that silvery white in the corners. Now I still have one day to exchange it, and I'm looking at Acer Predator XB271HUA, which does look kind of ugly but every review says it's like the best TN panel there is, and after my quick IPS experience I'm willing to go back to TN. Should I, really? I mean, if I don't like it I can switch back but I'd rather not do something unnecessary.

Picrelated: ugly gay man looking piece of garbage with stellar reviews.

theyre able to charge you to use a built in feature of the phone because it is generally activated via an app the cellular provide includes with the phone.

once you root the phone you can download any app for rooted devices that turns the wifi into a hotspot and bypass the needless app included by the cellular provider and you will be good to go.

or, you can activate the hotspot manually is maybe like 3 or 4 lines of terminal code. very simple.

>C#
I dont use windows, but if its like literally every constructor in programming, here goes:

Many times programmers find need to utilizes classes (i.e. abstract objects, objects)

Classes often contain their own sets of functions and variables (class members) unique to the function.

Often when this class is utilized in a program (instantiated) it is useful to be able to define the value of some of these member variables while the class is being instantiated.

This normally occurs as an argument to the class upon creation, just like an argument to a function.

The member function within the class that defines what happens upon creation is the constructor. It is implicitly called whenever the class is created and can accept arguments just like any other function. generally a constructor function has no return type and shares the same name as the parent class

consider this pseudocode which shows an example class, animal:
def Class Animal()
{
int legs; //class variable. no value.
Animal.Animal(): //Default constructor when no arguments are passed
legs=2; //default legs for animal is two
Animal.Animal(int numLegs):
legs=numLegs;

Animal.getLegs();
return legs;
}

int main()
{
animal1 = new Animal;
animal2 = new Animal(4);
print animal1.getLegs();
print animal2.getLegs()
}

>4

>I don't get why they are helpful
Now consider a class that is like my Animal class but more specific.

Suppose it includes legs, height, weight, skin-type, hair, fur, sight, fins, flippers, etc...

Rather than having to create a class and then initialize every member variable explicitly, a class constructor can take arguments upon creation and automate the process for you.

Why would you want to inlcude 50 lines of code to initialize a Class EVERY time it is created when you can simply put that 50 lines of code into a constructor and have the process be automated every time a class is created?

ssh tunneling is what your are describing and is quite common.

one option is configuring a socks proxy and forwarding
>https://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~xuanluo/sshproxywin.html

if you are trying to access a specific service you can configure port forwarding:
>http://blog.trackets.com/2014/05/17/ssh-tunnel-local-and-remote-port-forwarding-explained-with-examples.html

these things require access to the server sshd as they are generally disabled by default in the config file

>they must have some sort of advanced blocker
You sure they don't simply block all ports except a few standard ones? Have you tried reaching a VPN server through TCP 443 (HTTPS) or TCP 22 (SSH, since that works)?

Anyway, you can't just run everything through the SSH tunnel since it doesn't make any sort of virtual network interface, it just passes traffic between local/remote ports depending on how you configure it. Your best bet is to use a dynamic port forward through SSH which will make a SOCKS proxy listening on the specified port on localhost. You can then set your browser to use the proxy and it will work perfectly fine.

If you want to run a game or something and it doesn't have proxy support, there's not much you can do with SSH alone AFAIK. What you COULD hypothetically do is pass a VPN connection through the SSH tunnel. I'm not sure it works, since I don't know exactly what happens to the SSH connection if your VPN changes your default route after it connects, but it may be worth a try if you have no better option. If you run into routing issues perhaps you can set a static route to the SSH server, to hopefully keep its connection intact. You would also need your own server since this is pretty stupid and definitely not some sort of standard functionality.
>>
>>61677791
its not about any specific port.

the idea is that you choose a port to be your dynamic port and that is the one you will use. literally any port above 1024 is suitable for this.

read about dynamic port forwarding (basily a SOCKS proxy) here (even if your not using ubuntu openSSH is basically the same on any distro):
>https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SSH/OpenSSH/PortForwarding

If your school is blocking vpn/proxy traffic, then dont use the port it gives, 1080 (the standard SOCKS proxy port), use something in the 60000 range.

also make sure that

>configure your socks ssh proxy to run on port 80, 443 or something like that so that it will make it past most firewalls
The proxy listens on localhost, so it wouldn't even touch any firewall unless his own computer is locked down by some university AIDS application. If that's not the case any port will work and it's probably a good idea to not use something standard, since other applications may think it's a good idea to use those often-unblocked ports too.

>>61677947
I guess then your best bet is using SSH dynamic tunnel as a proxy. That's trivially easy to set up and if the software you're using has SOCKS proxy support will also work well. If not you can try connecting to the VPN server through the SSH tunnel as I've said, that way you would be able to push all your internet traffic through the tunnel, even from programs which don't have proxy support. I've never done it and you might have to mess with your routing table.

Actually, after a quick search it looks like OpenSSH at least has some TUN/TAP device support, which I didn't know about, so look into that first.

OK, so what you've done is this:
>set up a SOCKS proxy on localhost:11485 on your machine
This looks fine, you should configure your browser to use localhost:11485 as a SOCKS proxy.
>set up another LISTENING port on localhost:443, which you're telling the SSH server to forward to *.runescape.com:443
I'm not sure what this is supposed to do, having a wildcard in the destination doesn't make sense to me. Perhaps I don't know enough, but I can't see how the server is going to know where to forward traffic to. The destination is where you want to server to send the traffic to. Your config says "send everything from localhost:443 to *.runescape.com:443"
>port 80
Same as above.

In any case, if you just want HTTP/HTTPS to work from a browser just use the dynamic port forward/SOCKS proxy which you have already configured.

>>61678274
OpenVPN runs fine on Windows. If you can use the dynamic port directly though, just go for that.

I'm not used to the windows whateveryourusing but ill continue to help.

your lines:
L443 *.runescape.com:443
L80 *.runescape.com:80

these look like your trying to configure static port forwarding. This needs to go to a SPECIFIC host, you cannot wildcard it. Also, it may not be necessary with what you are trying to do.

The first line may be adequate for what you are trying to do, simply configure your browser to use a socks proxy at that address and port 11485.

If you are using an actual game, you need to go inside the game and configure the proxy settings using your port 11485 and SOCKS proxy option.

Heres the deal with the L443 and L80 lines:
These need to go to a SPECIFIC host. for example:
L443 www.runescape.com:443
L80 www.runescape.com:80

This will allow you to connect to their web pages via the ssh tunnel. These cannot be wildcard destinations, they need to be either a resolvable host name or an ip address.

iduno if anyone can answer this to me but how do i get my audio in device to play into my computer? Windows 10

i am syncing a synth to my computer and i got it all timed correctly with midi but i don't hear it when it's lined in, and the only way i can even hear it is when i use sound recorder but i have to play it back and can't hear it real time. i want to be able to hear it the way i plug into a bluetooth speaker and be able to record what i hear but it's not working the way i want it. why can't it just work
>>
>>61679503
Yeah that part is easy. You can pretty much assume that what comes out the other end is going to be spied on by every shady motherfucker out there. If not on your initial connection, then pretty early on when a new rout is established. And they're going to do everything in their power to try and compromise your PC. That's where most attacks end up. Although if they somehow manage to MITM ssl then pretty much everything is up for grabs.
>>
>>61679579
it sounds like you just need to enable realtime playback on your audio in device in the windows audio settings somewhere.

I dont use windows so cant help

Basically its generally disabled by default, because if you were to plug in a microphone it would start feedingback. So theres generally a thing you have to enable (check some type of 'audio out' or 'playback' tab... maybe its in with the audio-in setting somewhere)

Basically enable something like 'playback during record' or something

A TV can do a single thing, a computer can do many things. That means there must be ways to tell the computer which of the many things it can do it should do.
You could only really make that easier by reducing the amount of things your computer can do, which is kind of what gaming console producers do (i.e. only play specific games).

>>61679951
There are plugins that give you some control over that. I doubt that'll be the thing that fucks you though.

because any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

get educated.

A computer is mindbogglingly complex. Just imagine how massive numbers of transistors running in parallel and series are only about to count and perform boolean comparisons and they are responsible for updating your monitor 144 times a second while you play a video game fully rendered in 3d.

You should be thankful that they are as simple to use as they already are.

Can someone help me to restart my windows computer if a port within my home network cannot be reached?

Here's the thing: I have NordVPN, and before I realised it was a mistake, I had already taken it for a year (was only $40 with a coupon) and the client doesn't support automatic reconnection. The kill switch kills qbittorrent when connecton is lost just as a precautionary measure. I'm fine with this, but I want the computer to restart when the VPN connection goes down. I don't know how to write powershell scripts or batch files.

The simple way I've come up with is when the kill switch kills qbittorrent, the web interface goes down, so 192.168.1.165:8080 is unavailable. I tried to google the fuck out of restarting the computer with a script if the computer cannot ping that specific IP and port number, but the port is being the biggest issue here.

Of course better would be to try and ping an IP with the TAP adapter, but I don't know how to ping with a selected interface.

Can someone PLEASE help me with this? I don't want to be manually restarting the torrent client every other day.

If you use an email provider its up to your email provider if it is a service they provide or not.

If you are hosting your own email create a filtering script in bash or python.

>>61680124
Display settings will do this. they generally use an X x Y format, such as 800x600.

set to higher numbers to have things on your desktop appear tinier, and lower numbers to look bigger.

This generally will not affect video playback resolutions because videos can be scaled in the window size they play in. If you have a small resolution (things appear big) such as 800x600 then playing Hi-res videos may initially appear outside the bounds of your monitor and you will have to downsize the playback window

Duh I'm stupid.

It's pretty easy with powershell. This one basically tries to grab the web interface. If it gets something back (Anything back.) it goes to sleep for five seconds. If not, it reboots the computer.

Might be worth setting it to run on boot too so you aren't having to restart the script every time the computer shuts down.

Just put it in a .ps1 file and go.

Those are build files for the gcc package for Source Mage GNU/Linux.
I'm updating the system to testing repo, although, some packages from testing (like ncurses) are having issues compiling with gcc 7.1.0 (from the testing repo), so I need to use gcc 6.3.0 (from the old testing repo).
If you click on the details file in the link that I provided, it clearly says 6.3.0.
But
git archive --remote=git://scmweb.sourcemage.org/smgl/grimoire.git master gnu/gcc/ | tar xvf -

if you have a blank, fresh hdd that you want to migrate everything over then live boot into linux with both drives attached and do this:
(assuming original disk is /dev/sda and new disk is /dev/sdb)
sudo dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb bs=1M status=progress

This will clone your original drive onto your new drive and preserve everything. ensure you dont mix up the drives, because if you do it will clone the empty drive onto your old drive deleting everything

okay this shit is driving me up the wall

so im stuck with a phone with 16gb internal storage, so i have to use a microSD (64GB with a high speed class) as part of Android's expanded internal storage thing.

PROBLEM IS it seems you can only use the "expanded internal storage" for apps, and other than a few glorified web page apps like Uber they work like shit (snapchat and Pokemon Go for example fucking crawl on the SD card)

But what about music files? It says I now have 70 GB unused storage space but I have no way of putting these MP3 files onto the SD card portion of the newly expanded "internal" storage....

Who the fuck thought this through?? I either have to get rid of a bunch of apps to hold music, videos, and photos on my SD card, or I can only use it to run apps off of (poorly at that)

Is there something im missing?? How do I get my phone to use this wealth of unused storage rather than putting all my MP3s on the cramped 7.8GB internal im left with after the OS??

tl;dr - Is there any way to use the SD card portion of Android's SD card as internal storage feature for music files?

windows can't be that retarded. don't like 90% of the human race use it?
>>
>>61682413
It's not about retardation. Windows installs aren't meant to be reversible. In linux they are. Everything is kept within secure containers, and if you never give the packages root access, they'll never be able to affect any other part of your system. It's hella handy on android. You can reverse engineer an APK whenever you want. But on windows microsoft just lets programs run wild. They make random registry edits, stick files all over the place, hide shit to catch you trying to repeat free trials. It's whatever the fuck they want basically. If the installer isn't a .msi they don't even bother using windows to help with the install. Package managers are sanity and elegance. Windows is the wild west.
