They could with a highly accurate HRTF model and equalization. Headphones would have better LF response. They need to be corrected for each listener individually.

Flat on-axis anechoic response of loudspeakers is an easy task. Managing response in a room is hard, particularly so you want a large sweet spot. It's aided by good directivity characteristics but below Schroeder frequency you'll need treatment and possibly equalization.

Audibly linear to 25hz, treble spike is gone, midrange is back. I might add 1-2db more above 12khz. The treble adjustment kills that range a bit.

what is a DAC that best compliments the HD600s?

The most affordable way to get transparent audio with plenty of headroom for quiet sources with the HD600 is the following:
https://hifimediy.com/tiny-dac
http://schiit.com/products/magni-2
Connect the tiny DAC to your PC, connect the Magni to the tiny DAC, connect your headphones to the Magni.

They are very comfortable except I have a slightly deformed ear and they hit the corner of the pads. And the band padding is a little thin, but not enough to notice really.

They won't if you properly stretch them first. You just need to extend the earcups all the way on both sides then carefully bend the now exposed metal until the clamp on your head is lessened but sufficient. They will never snap if you do this when you buy them.
They're often on sale for a price in your stated price range or close to it, too.

To be very clear, extend the earcups all the way, grab the circled metal part and only the circled metal part between your thumb and forefinger at the top and bottom of the exposed metal, and carefully bend each side in a manner which pulls the earcup away from the other. You want to lessen the clamp as much as you can without going so far as to make it so they don't stay in one place on your head.
The headbands crack because you have to stretch the plastic every time you put them on at default clamping force, eventually causing a stress fracture at the top. Lessen the clamping force and this will never occur.

It will. DACs are the new expensive cables. Total fucking snakeoil.

Breaking sennheiser headbands is not impossible; You could trow a brick on it and it would probably break. But it is unlikely, nevermind the troll that specializes on posting such pictures.
Re: stretching people suggest against the clamp, you could simply do nothing; they stretch naturally with use. It hurt for me on the first couple days, but that's about it. It's been months and they barely press at all anymore.

Nice and open hardware. But not very competitively priced.
The schiit stack, or even just the fulla2, are way stronger / cost contenders.

This will stretch the plastic naturally too. It's best to just stretch the metal right off the bat to minimize the amount of stress on the plastic.

The fuck, are you guys pussies?

From day one my HD600 has been comfortable, yes it has a bit of clamp but that's because it's designed around providing a consistent seal.

FYI:

HD600 contact pressure: 2.5N
DT880 Pro contact pressure: 3.5N
DT880 Edition (Premium) contact pressure: 2.8N
HD280 Pro contact pressure: 6N (kek)
>>
>>60862205
HD600 is tight to begin with. Stretching the band fixes it in 2 minutes. There'es literally nothing to talk about. It's the most comfortable headphone around after it's been stretched a little.
>>
>>60862205
Good for you, I've always been too autistic for headphones and it's only since three years ago that I've started to acclimate to them. All my previous experiences were insta-headache. HD598, after a few weeks of use, changed my perspective.
HD600... physical pain on the first couple days of use. So much pain it remained after removing headphones. I still tortured myself because they sound so fucking good. Thankfully it went away, and as I got used to the sound, I appreciate them even more. They might be the best item I've ever bought.
>>
>>60859485
>Please put some effort into your requests and questions.

>>
>>60862244
I've used more comfortable headphones than the HD600. The problem with the HD600 is that the earcups aren't roomy as other headphones. Even the lower models like HD598 are more comfortable. That's not to say they aren't comfy, it's just not the best from my experiences.
>>60862246
Good for you, shill-kun.

>>60862265

>>
>>60862273
>The problem with the HD600 is that the earcups aren't roomy as other headphones.
Contact with ears never been an issue with mine. Contact with head was, when new.
>shill-kun
Loving the HD600 doesn't make someone a shill.
>>
>>60862205
I'm not recommending stretching the metal solely to relieve clamp. I'm primarily recommending reducing the clamp by stretching the metal only to prevent headband snapping.
>>
>>60862298
My head isn't particularly round/wide. I'm also fit. My ears are, if anything, on the small side.
But I do wear glasses, which definitely doesn't help. Still, its support bars do touch the head, so they don't make much of a difference with headphones.
>>
>>60862298
This.
>>60862307
It touches my ears which are normal sized but it doesn't bother me. If comfort is someone's end game, I'd suggest HD800. Yes it's heaver but the way it distributes weight is amazing. Almost like wearing nothing at all. It does sound like garbage however, but EQ can fix that easily.
>>60862359
Eyelet.
>>
>>60862374
>Almost like wearing nothing at all
I agree about that. Now that I've used them for a few months, they're even more comfortable than the HD598 were. And it was already easy to forget I was wearing those.
>>
>>60862273
The 600's are big and cover the ears easily, unless you're talking about depth? If you have problems with either then I'm sorry to say, but you have massive ears. The 600's earpad shape are massive compared to nearly everything.
>>
>>60862427

HD600, had HD598 for a long time, decided to upgrade and it was well worth it. HD600 have bass in comparison, but mostly everything else is much better, highs are more extended and natural, midrange for me is almost miles ahead and imaging is much better, altho no soundstage. My only problem is that HD600 cups are not as roomy as ones on HD598 and it irritates me time to time, got used to clamp.

It's about a fucking time Senneheiser updates HD600 with a roomier cups, lighter construction akin to HD598 and improves sub bass and transient response in the area of speed, call me whatever you want but HD600 does sound slow in comparison to HD800 and DT880.

>HD600... physical pain on the first couple days of use. So much pain it remained after removing headphones. I still tortured myself because they sound so fucking good.

This happened exactly to me as well. Fixed after some stretching. I wanted to stretch it not only because of the clamp but because that force would flatten the pads much faster than they normally should, and after that the headphones would touch the tip of the ear. Which is one of the most uncomfortable things I can imagine for long sessions. I could pray for manufacturers to make headphones more roomy (I even have pretty small ears) to prevent any of this to ever happen.

I do not own them. I got HD600 based on the general opinion shared by reviewers that HD600 is the better of the two.
They're apparently very close to each other, but HD600 is the most neutral thing out there (save those ER4SR iems), whereas HD650's sound is colored.

How much of an amp do HD600 really need?
I recently got a pair and just run them off my PC, I get plenty of volume
I read a lot of different opinions on running these on an amp, some people say they get a lot clearer? other state it made little to no difference wether they run it off their laptop/pc or an budget(<150$) amp

I really enjoy the sound as it is now
am I missing out, by not running these off an amp?

Depends on how autistic you are. Important thing is that an amp alone isn't worth much. If you want an improvement over onboard sound you need a better dac.

yeah same. besides people clamor for the damn hd6xx like nothing else it'll probably be voted as a revived drop until the end of time. it's just a blue (dull looking imo) hd600 but I guess it's less than msrp.

the t-x0 I have hopes for though, a good t50rp mod is the best vale in planars you can get. and even if they don't sound the best, they're more than worth it for being a serialized last run. I don't see these ever loosing value.

I'm interested to see how they sound different when I swap on mr speakers leather pads.

What the hell is slow "sounding"? That doesn't refer into anything. Chances are that if you are hearing it, it's just the usual: frequency magnitude coloration. Human ear is a pressure detector with a very finite temporal resolution.

I prefer the HF5's stock signature over the MK5, but you might be different, the HF5 is darker/warmer in tone while still being quite neutral, it's similar to the ER-4PT. The MK5 is similar to the ER-4S but a bit brighter.

The only advantage I can see with the HF5 is the sensitivity is better on portable devices.
>>
>>60877864
Would you say the HF5 is similar in sound to the HD600 then?
>>
>>60877984
HF5 has more sub-bass, less mid-bass, less lower midrange, and less high treble. That's in comparison to the HD600. What that means is that the HF5 sounds thinner in comparison, and darker at the top end treble.

I'd say if you like the HD600 you might deviate closer to the HF5, but if you want absolute neutrality maybe the MK5 is what you want.

Phone jack broken (Zenfone 2), any devices I plug in just slide out easily, tried bending things back in place in there but to no avail.

Is there such thing as viable <$50 wireless earphones? Or <$70? Used to just use Xiaomi Hybrids.

Hello I'm a shitter can anybody tell me what sound signature is my preference? V shaped?
I don't really like my expensive ATH IM03 headphones but love my chink 1MORE Triple Driver headphone... I'm driving this through a Fiio E10K

Also, if I could get a decent earphone with the budget it'd be swell.

Noted. Rather stay away from refurbed stuff. I like the earphone recommendation.

Read as open. Closed is a sacrifice of comfort and sound for isolation.

HD600 (sale or 2nd hand), HD579, HD599, k702, HD598se.
Google/youtube will find you plenty of reviews of these. They should all be available in amazon.co.uk.
>>
>>60881573
Thanks for sharing. So basically you can have good sound isolation only if you sacrifice comfort by going with closed headphones?

Also, what do you think is the best for general (music) use among those you've listed? Will definitely check their reviews.
>>
>>60881664
>So basically you can have good sound isolation only if you sacrifice comfort by going with closed headphones?
There's a third factor: Price. But the general idea is that open will sound better at the same price, and this difference grows as budget goes up, to the point where there's simply no closed alternative to the HD600.
>Also, what do you think is the best among those you've listed? Will definitely check their reviews.
HD600 is the most neutral and best sounding. I listed them in what I understand as descending order. They're all at least neutral-ish, comfortable and good value per price.
>for general (music) use
Neutral + comfortable to wear are the requirements. I think you got that much right.

Should I get a DAC for my SHP9500s?

Yes, clearly either of them has issues.
A fulla 2 (usb dac+amp) is suggested.

Is burn in a real thing or just a big meme?
>>
>>60882813
For practical purposes, as long as you do the burn-in by wearing your headphones, it is real.
Getting used to new headphones is a thing.
>>
>>60882864
But playing whitenoise or whatever through them for multiple hours to wear in the drivers is complete nonsense right?
>>
>>60882990
No, it's not. It's faith-based. People who believe in it do actually hear better sound afterwards. It's all in their brain, but it does work.
>>
>>60882990
>>60883057
I had about a dozen SHE3580 and SHE3590 and when just bought they sound very very bad, cracking and popping all the time. After half an hour of noise or music the sound becomes normal. I did not try blind testing it but the difference is way too signiicant to be placebo effect.
I guess any decent (>$5) headphones are tested by manufacturers so there's already enough burn-in when bought.
>>
>>60883144
>cracking and popping all the time
Do they ship with sand on the drivers? :X

Pick one.

My HD600 subjective review.
As I put them on, it's as if I was receiving a constant flow of the good stuff via IV.
When I remove them, the world seems grey and boring, and soon enough I get the shakes from the withdrawal.

Can using my headphones as speakers damage them? For example, leaving them on the desk connected to my desktop on max volume when I don't feel like wearing them. They sound loud enough to use as speakers and I don't have the money to buy some.
>>
>>60883945
Unless they're ear dildos with a headband, I feel bad for the ears.
>>
>>60883971
I do that a lot with HD600. You'd have to go real loud to actually damage them, and I doubt you can do that without the gain of an external amp.
>>
>>60883594
They're okay but they leak quite a bit and dont isolate at all. Just be cautious of how loud they're playing.
I got Superlux HD 562's and they're pretty good in just about all aspects except comfort.

Right.

Any resonator which can't pressurize the space they are in will do that below their fundamental resonance. Headphones(even open back models) pressurize the air inside the earcups enabling useful LF extension. Loudspeakers don't and neither would headphones in free air. The HS8's 8" woofer would roll off around ~100 Hz alone but the port resonance extends the band down to ~45 Hz.

thanks for the recommendations. Are the superlux hd 562's uncomfy because they sit tight on the head? That's a problem I have with my hd668b's and I wonder if replacing the pads would do any good?
>>
>>60884325
Unless you get thinner, more uncomfortable pads, it won't make a difference

>>60884325
Are the superlux hd 562's unconfy because they sit tight on your head? Yes, that be helped by stretching the headband on a box for a day or two. Genuine HD 25 pads would help a bit with comfort or the spare velours that came with it.
>>
>>60884107

I'd go with M40x for 99€, but they come with 3m cable and shit pads, you'd end up spending something like 145€.
Probably still the best allrounder and worth saving for.

I've done this too. In every instance they've gone and bought a pair of beats and talk about how they love them, while I'm listening to headphones that cost half as much but run circles around them in SQ. It's one of the reasons I don't give advice anymore. People will do what they want to anyways and you'll have done nothing but waste your time.
