Hey /hpg/, does anyone have any experience with the headphones from pic related?

Okay, but which one is the best of the list?
>>
>>59486825
What you think is best is dependent on your sound preference
>>
>>59486922
But I don't have one, 'till now I used the IEMs I got with the mp3 player or phone.
>>
So I currently have beyerdyanmic dt770 250ohm plugged into a Yamaha htr-5740

Do I need a headphone amplifier or is that good enough?

This is my nightime rig as in the day I use the same receiver powering NHT model 1a
>>
>>59486953
The cheapest of the few are the Vsonic VSD series or Tennmak's with both being V-Shaped so those might be closer to ones included with phones since genres like pop and EDM favor that sound signature.

I have been using a crappy Sound Blaster Arena headset for the past few years as my main headphones since I play a lot of games and wanted a headset. I have gotten so sick of the hissing from my crap soundcard. I used to have an old set of Sennheiser 280 Pros back in college I loved but have since lost them.

I figured I listen to so much music I would upgrade, so I finally bought a Fiio E10k and the AudioTechnica M40x.

I am now ruined. I can hear the difference between 128 and 256 kbps MP3s and FLAC now. All the music I listen to that I rip off Youtube is garbage because the bitrate is so low and I can hear the mud.

The bad part is the setup I have is so entry-level and cheap. If I upgrade to even BETTER stuff is there going to be another big difference in quality? Everything I rip off youtube is garbage quality and I can't enjoy it anymore. Now I want to get FL Studio and start mixing stuff myself for fun since now music actually sounds good.

Am I wasting my nice setup since mainly all I listen to is speedcore and anime EDM remixes?

>Do I need a headphone amplifier or is that good enough?
How to tell if you need an amp:

When you turn volume up, is it loud enough?
YES, then you don't need an amp.
NO, then you need an amp.

How to tell if you need a DAC.

When you play a song on a computer, do you hear any crackling? Do you hear any noise when nothing is playing and volume is set to 100%? Do you hear any noise or crackling when GPU is running at full-power?

YES, well, then you should get an external DAC because it will be isolated and will improve sound.

NO, then you don't need a DAC.

If anyone tells you otherwise, they're just shilling and want you to waste money on shit. Or they're just delusional audiphools who also believe in fairies and Santa.

Yes, but I don't know if it's because it's just a DAC/Amp or because my PC audio was so pisspoor.

I always used to plug into my soundcard (Xonar DG) on my computer and with nothing playing I can hear the WRRRRR EEEEEEEEE when my videocard is rendering or even when it's just idle.

So I think it's really important to have a DAC just to make it so the audio leaves your PC in digital format so it doesn't pick up the shit from the computer case, and it gets sent to the external DAC sitting on your desk or whatever where theres way less interference. Then, when you plug your headphones into the DAC/amp, you only need to worry about it picking up interference from the dac to your head.

The sound is clean so to me it makes a difference since I would always be pissy when I heard the noise. Be aware the Fiio is USB powered so it can't drive the really big headphones and you should look at the SMSL dac/amps with external power bricks if you have the super high ohm headphones.

But as for the Fiio the gain switch is great, the bass boost switch works great, it is all metal and feels quality, and so far I love the thing, but am wondering if I should have spent the same money and gotten one with an external power brick.

But now I'm wondering the next shit I should buy.

Just get the Fiio on Amazon and if you don't like it return it. It's worth a try.
>>
>>59487530
The Fiio E17 drives my beyerdynamic DT 880 600ohm just fine. at +12db gain and the volume knob all the way up it's damaging my ears.

>>59486555
Good mid-centric headphone for its price, imo (if that's what you're looking for in terms of sound signature). Sub bass rolls off, so don't expect much in that region. Treble has a peak at 9k but it's very tolerable (for me, at least).

>>
>>59487501
Carbo's are less V-Shaped than Tennmak's and closer to VSD1S's with more treble and a noticible peak at 2K so guitars might be a bit in your face.
>>
>>59487693
Believe it or not, I use the X2 the most. Best all-rounder in my collection in terms of between listening to music and 'immersion factor' while playing games or watching anime/movies/etc.
>>
>>59487837
I prefer extra bass and treble for gaming and movies; been considering the X2 for that reason.
The versatility provided by the detachable cable is hard to beat.

Neutral is good for critical listening, X2's seem like an excellent daily driver though.
>>
>>59487278
It is difficult to appropriately stress how much of you perception of "quality" comes down to the equalization and your own biases.
>bitrates
Youtube has changed audio formats many times over the last decade, lossy coding is almost never that straightforward with a well-implemented coder.

You only speak for yourself there. No, genre is not related to sound signature. Neither is the spectral balance of the content.

>>
>>59488154
I suppose I should retract the "spectral content of music" bit. You can equalize an audio any which way, judging it with loudspeakers that were judged by audio, and so on.
Hence the image, Floyd Toole's circle of confusion. This also applies to those studies that use music.

People like what they do. Even if they statistically trend a certain way, it's still a matter of personal preference. You do not get to force subjectivity on someone else.
>literally DOZENS of papers
Having piles of papers doesn't mean anything if you are using them to argue a faulty case, assuming the papers are even sound. You don't seem the type to care about that.

Here's one such consideration for you, the variation in preferred bass boost between the 7 trained listeners involved in AES Convention Paper 8994 is approximately 15 dB.

Very similar to the HD 600. They share earpads with the HD 650, which made additional changes to the HD 600.
The HD 580 shares the driver of the HD 600, and most of the cup. The damping material used in the HD 600 changed later in production, about 10 years ago.

Retards who've never had good headphones and always had shitty IEMs so they never experienced bass and always had to boost it because they're too stupid to properly seal IEMs. So these morons then come on here and claim they want bassy headphones when they've never actually used them and don't know what that shit sounds like.

Strong rolloff on both ends, midrange bump (a "shout" in audiophile speak), uneven treble character.
Various modifications address most of these issues. The treble ones don't really go away, not that I've found.

Anyone else ever have problems with APO? I'm trying to test if it's working by ticking and un-ticking 'enable audio enhancements' usually I can hear an obvious volume difference but today for some reason it's not working. Any headphone with a detachable cable that can use a boom pro will be better than whatever gaymer headset you buy, anon offers solid advice and you shun him.

WRONG, depending on headphone you may or may not need an amp for it to sound fully. I can blast my eardrums with HD600 on my mac alone, but with amp they sound different and not as loose as on mac alone. Stop shilling these treads you cucky, even fulla 2 for 100$. I agree on dacs tho.

Hey there!
Currently the DT880, actually i'm going to sell all other but the DT and the V6, love them all, but i find a little sad that they get so little use. Who knows, maybe with the money i grab something else, always wanted to try an HD800 or a planar.
Currently using the Scarlett as amp/dac for my headphones and occasionally for some playback on my guitar and bass combos, but i originally got it because i kept having to work with 24-bit/96kHz tracks during college (mostly in the box mixing and mastering). Still, i will be very usefull once i finally get a pair of monitors.

You could go for either, to be honest. Only problem I was worried about was build quality; the TMA-1s had durability issues, and the early models of the TMA-2s had some problems with molding. Again, unsure if fixed.

Which pads are you buying? Depending on the pads, bass can become bloated and drown out everything else.

Two questions:

a) Is it as comfortable as the AKG K712 Pro? This one had memory foam and the self-adjusting head thing was perfect.
b) Will the FiiO E10k drive it? It's 300 Ohms...

HD600 won't sound as bright/energetic as the K712 (don't know your sound preferences). Depending on your head size/shape, some may find the clamp of new HD600s overwhelming and irritable. You won't find many more headphones that are as comfortable as AKGs (not counting the AKG headbands with bumps)

Looking for something to replace my broken ATH-M30

I bought some velour V6 earpads for these, so I was leaning to just get some sony V6, but curious if any of the cheaper ~$40-50 brands offer good isolation and comfort. I know Samson, Senal, Lyxpro, Fostex and a few others make affordable ones.

I am mostly going to use these for videogames and loud music, I don't really care about neutrality as I don't record audio or anything. Don't like really muddy, warm boomy shit, but want to have it isolate enough that I can hear footsteps across the map you know.

The earpads I'd like to use are these very thick Brainwavz HM5 velour pads I bought a couple years ago, so anything that can take V6 and similar pads would work.

Parents died at 11 and 15 years old. Moved in with a family member and started using opiates once a month or so. Met a girlfriend at 16 and was crazy for her, expecially while high. Hit 18 and got 40k from my father's life insurance. My addiction went crazy and I blew through it in a year on heroin and pills. Moved out of the families member's house to a rented room because the girl wasn't alloud over anymore because I was being a moron. Ended up coming out about the addiction to the family, bounced around a few rehabs. Went to long island, ended up back here with no bridges left and then some guys burnt down my car over a small debt I incured from taking something from a burgulary I drove for them. I rolled on them immediately because I blind with anger. Ended up in a welfare hotel shortly thereafer and ended up getting dragged out of it by the polcie because I robbed someone and they snitched. Got slapped with 2 felonies too from the burgulary. Did a month and got parol. Got out, and an old friend from high school took me in. We both had the same life style, on the pc all day so it worked. Ended up moving out of state with him and his girl and rented a room from them with money from a online job. I hated the job and found a way to make money online that isn't what you can call legit. Used that to pay rent for 2 years so I didn't have to work. They decided to move back home in december 2014. Told me we were just getting a new place but they ditched me once I got up here. Hence homeless. Back on my feet now.

Have them on my head now, retard.

PS: You should give those SHP9500S to some bum on the street so they can use them as earmuffs when it's cold outside. That's the only thing they're good for.
>>
>>59497611

Well then, you should, because that's what my argument is based of off. I told you one headphone may differ from others, in terms of leakage, gave examples, did a 'test' (even though that wasn't a test, per se, I just happened to go into the kitchen one day and grap a drink, without pausing my shit).

And I've told you that I don't listen at ear deafening levels. Maybe it's your ears that need to be checked, because hearing as what I've said above/in previous posts, isn't that difficult.

Just got a fresh pair of dt990s. I'm some what suspicious that they are knock offs because the material on the inside of the ear pads, the pads, and the headband feels slightly different than I remember. They are also lacking the distinctly seperated vocals that I remember them for so fondly. Trying to get a hold of Beyer but maybe it's just a later revision and also needs to burn in

They just wanted me to testify, which I would have done anyway because fuck those guys. The felonies were dropped as well as all the possesion charges and shit from when I got arrested to a misdemeanor. The probation was dropped because I "had" to move with my friend in order to keep the online job and staying in the same county (a stipulation of the probation) would have resulted in me being homeless again. They let me pay my fine and be on my way.

judging based on my mad dogs, the only "problem" is that it's quite warm. the treble isn't uneven to my ears, just could use a bit of boost in eq to your taste. but then you shouldn't be looking at a headphone like the mad dog not wanting a warm sound. the bass has less impact than you might expect but it's not rolled off. it's my favorite closed headphone after the hp50.

Well, have fun.

24bit / 96KHz (advanced tab) is just the highest mode this shit supports. Music is 44.1 or 48KHz. Device has a xtal for each and their 88.2 and 96KHz multiples. Windows will have to resample music that doesn't match output, and its resampler isn't awesome. Oversampling (by setting the highest target) kind of minimizes the suckage of Windows's resampler.

Ofc, YMMV. There's purists out there that will insist on bit-exact output, despite delta-sigma DACs don't even use the samples directly... go figure.
