So after leaving it on the closet for like 8 months i finally got the courage to buy a tool to open the caseback of my SKX013 and fix the loose rotor.
It was pretty easy actually, 5 minutes and it was done. The rotor was literally fucking loose and just fell off when i turned the watch upside down after opening it.
I was getting tired of wearing just my Orient Mako ever since i lost my Komandirskie.

I'm a skinny fuck but haven't measured my wrists yet (I weight like 51kg) and while the Mako is fine it's also the maximum i can endure to use without looking ridiculous.
I think the Mako is better finished (polished/brushed parts and the SKX013 is almost all polished) and the movement has been more reliable on the years i've had it but i prefer the Seiko for the design and size.

>>
>>59308740
never seen a pepsi bezel before on a 013, is it aftermarket? And the Mako is blue, right? Most people really rave about that color
>>
>>59308748
In house and automatic.
>>
>>59308776
I brought the SKX013 a long time ago and it wasn't brand new, chances are it's aftermarket i guess. It looks really good when light catches on and is miles better than the Mako bezel insert IMHO (although the bezel itself is better finished on the Mako).
Yeah the Mako dial is blue, i don't like it much but i learned to live with it, what i really hate are the numbers and the font for the water resistant text.
>>
>>59308874
Nomos?
>>
>>59308882
thank, I think I'll go with the SKX
>>
>>59308891
>Nomos

>>
>>59308914
Yeah if you're skinny like me i'd go with that, otherwise look at the SKX007 (009 as i like Pepsi bezels) everyone has i guess, the Mako is WAY better finished and more reliable imho but the design on the SKX013 is everything i want and love whereas the quality on the Mako might not really compensate the design inconsistencies for me.
One thing that used to bother me is why the fuck the extra pusher on the Mako is used to change the week day instead of the month, month would be more useful since if you wear it all the time you'll need to change on the month changes but weeks never change.

I was thinking about the II version. It is objectively better than the SKX, but it just doesn't do it for me and getting stuck with a watch that you have to tolerate doesn't sound so exciting.

>>59308991
My wrists are pretty skinny, but I have some other watches that are 46mm lug to lug, so I'll shoot for the 007. Not to mention that it costs about 150 bucks, while the 013 is 200 or so. The only choice is bracelet or rubber band. I heard that the rubber strap tends to stick out on a smaller wrist. What did you get your 013 on? It's interesting if the 20mm rubber strap is shorter, that might push me to go for the 013
>>

>>59309126
damn, now that's sexy
>>
>>59309105
I got it on the rubber but i tossed it away (people will tell you to boil it to fit your wrists better or something but honestly i didn't bother). I love NATOs and i can't find a decent and cheap-ass shit bracelet so i just keep it on the NATO. And yeah the rubber strap sticks out on skinny wrists. Same for the Mako rubber strap.

No, and no.

You can and should collect whatever genres and complications you enjoy, as long as they aren't shitters or dogshit.

Personally, my horological interests are in the best engineered production three handers and chronographs, with a general bent towards fairly austere designs, baton indices, and dauphine hands, so that's what I collect.

So here is an actual watch related topic to ponder: Why do some watch companies seem constitutionally incapable of not making mistakes?

Citizen has the capacity to really make a dent in ETA 2824-2 usage by micro-brands if they would only release a version of the Miyota 9015 with a micro-adjuster and some better factory adjustment, yet they don't.

They could sell more Citizen watches to WIS if they actually USED the 9015 in some more models.

They could sell more Citizen watches if they could resist the temptation to make them all mallcore as fuck.

They could do the same with Bulova, which they own.

And now they bought Frederique Constant, hitherto known for their uninspired discount JLC homages. Is there any chance they are going to make a success out of FC and Alpina?

mechanical watches are in its entirety a meme.

Mechanical watches have been surpassed in most categories that people in the 1800s and 1900s would have valued the most in a watch.

Reliability, accuracy and affordability.

However, we just like mechanical watches for what they are and chronographs are one of the pinnacles of mechanical watch technology.
>>
>>59312710
the strap is well made in my eyes but it is itchy.

for a decent strap its going to cost me $30+ so im just going to hold on.

I honestly think this watch looks the best with a conventional canvas strap. metal leather and even nato seem out of place to me.

Watches look so much different in real life. The reflections, colour, ect look much more impressive than office scan photos.

well sport watches are meant to be durable and/or offer useful functions like a timing bezel or chronograph.

You don't have to worry about a diver or a gshock if caught in a storm or you get knocked into a pool at a party or whatever might happen, you know?

And certain sports have a certain aesthrtic that people like, like colorful racing watches or rugged military watches

Perhaps those scratches were there beforehand and had very small traces of oils on it from your skin, which covered up the scratches and wiping it with a cloth removed all the oils and now you can see the scratches???

Because it would cost money to then put those hundreds of thousands of variations together in a way that people want them.

Thinking of buying pic related (Obris morgan rubber strap) for my divewatch.
Anyone has one? Please share your thoughts on the item.
Also, they use natural rubber instead of vulcanized rubber, is that bad?

Natural rubber is supposed to be good.
I did quite a bit of research on Isofrane-style straps, and from what I'd found Obris Morgan ones are quite good.
I went with a Borealis one because the Obris Morgan doesn't accomodate small wrists. It's really good, but more expensive than the OM and available in less colours.
>>
>>59311625
>>59312689

You missed my point. The Miyota 9015 would be strictly better than the ETA 2824-2 in every technical way if it had a micro-adjuster and better factory adjustment. One would think that would help Miyota encourage it's adoption by more ebauche watchmakers than currently. Give the economies of scale they possess, it should not be prohibitively expensive to do that and try and gain a stranglehold on micro-brands.

As to their styling, I mean that it is quite obvious that Citizen and Bulova's design departments are either ignorant of, or do they care to follow the well established watch design conventions followed by everyone else. Ignoring those conventions is why their watches always look like "mall watches" or "dadcore" watches and always look *wrong* to watch people. They are just giving away sales by not making at least a few models designed to appeal to WIS. Again, the incremental cost to them would be trivial.
>>
>>59315793

The borealis is only 5 dollars more expensive than the OM and they use vulcanized, which is supposed to be more durable than natural right?

Anyway thanks for the suggestion anon. I usually wear my watch when camping/swimming so my current nylon strap is not durable enough.
>>
>>59315849
the ETA 2824-2's date clicks over whereas the Miyota's date "rolls" over.

>When you swell up, do you wear it too tight or really loose when you're not swelled up.

I wear it loose for cold weather and normal for regular times. I live in NH and during the winter my watch likes to fall past my wrist bone's "lump" when I go outside which is aggravating as hell. But it's unacceptable to correct that by making it too tight as then if I go indoors or it heats up then suddenly I have my circulation cut off.

Sometimes I'll use a leather one piece strap to avoid this but I really do prefer to use the bracelet when I can. It just looks and feels more natural IMO.

People wank over history too much when it doesn't even fucking matter, look at what Swatch has done. Almost always it's marketing bullshit, pure and simple. Take the SKX for example. You're paying $200 for a trash movement, shitty bracelet, and misaligned chapter rings/bezels but it's ok because of Seiko's diver heritage. How does that make sense?

One of the cheapest automatic divers there is, idk what you expect. Yes they've gone up in price, maybe $30, due to their popularity. There is not even much under $200 to compare it to.

SKX is a really shitty example of what you're trying to say.

It's a 150 dollar watch that was in production for like 20 years
(prices have gone up recently as it's popular and production has been limited or completely stopped by now. But do these people buying it for the extra 50 dollars understand the history of seiko divers, or are they just told it's a good starting point so they buy one? I wouldn't vote on those people believing they're buying heritage.)

Meanwhile it has better lume than nearly every other diver, including those thousands of dollars more expensive. And has generally been the, or one of the, cheapest ISO certified dive watches available. Normally watches are tested in batches, but when you do ISO certification every single watch is tested. That's not a cheap process.

So, at what price point do you think they can make and sell a certified diver with all the features it has?

I mean, what's the cheapest quartz iso certified diver you can buy? Promaster, also at 150 dollars? And now you've went paid the same and lost lumibrite too.

Also, buy it on the rubber strap.

People with an interest in horology care, and those same people who care about and appreciate horological history are the same ones who despise Swatch for gutting several once great brands and for the mountains of "affordable luxury" ETA powered shitters sold using marketing.
