Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price, or improve specs or build quality.

>Assemble your parts list with price comparisons by vendor and compatibility filter.

>Subsitute a G4560 with 2400MHz RAM for any Pentium or i3; similar performance, up to 50% cost reduction.
>Consider using an i5 6500/7500 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build.
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any i3 or locked i5 build without a Z mobo.
>Consider a H110/B150 (need BIOS update BEFORE installing CPU) or B250 mobo for any Pentium or i3 build.
>Add a 240GB SSD to the "Very Good" tier build.
>The only worthwhile gfx cards are the GTX1050Ti, RX470, RX480, GTX1060 6GB

I have a WD Caviar Black HDD. It runs a little loud, but loads very quickly, like a medium end SSD. Only problem is the first five minutes of startup, but my LED's keep me patient.

Are hybrid drives any better than regular HDDs? Found a 1TB for 80 bucks, it's always double that for SSDs...

Can some one recommend me a decent 700-800 watt psu? My current 600w isn't going to be enough when I upgrade my system. (I have 2 ssd(s), 4 hard drives, and will purchase a 1070 soon)

feel free to post any changes you feel it needs but I want that 1070

For those of you who are currently building, how are your builds coming along?

I've got the case, GPU, RAM, and a few other things but I'm waiting about a week before I purchase my motherboard/CPU/cooler/etc.

First time builder here. BIOS setup seems the most scary part to me. Ive been binge watching "How to build PC" videos and they rarely cover BIOS setup.
Am I just over reacting? Or is it a crucial part building that I should spend time studying?

Case sound dampening is kind of a meme. Quiet components make more of a difference.

That said, the US market doesn't have much in the way of "premium" cases that look clean and beautiful. There's Lian Li, but they lack features.

Going for a "White-Out" theme. budget is where it's at. It's for gaming, and I live in USA. Gaming as in AAA Games at 1440p/144Hz. Any optimizations?
>>
>>58879288

because they're the ones buying the motherboards designed to be overclocked, the 1080s in SLI, the $150 RGB keyboards, the flashy cases, etc. It's not really a terrible thing because the technology evolves more rapidly with the increase in demand, but I do agree that the flashy lifestyle is a big tasteless.

That being said, as someone who doesn't want RGB keyboards or a ton of LED fans or anything, I don't think there is anything wrong with subtle ambient case lighting just to highlight the pieces you have. I mean shit, there's like $3,000 invested in some of these cases.
>>

I'm getting back ~$2000 on my tax return this year and I'm finally going to begin building my gaymen PC that I've been putting off for literally 3 years now.

Guess I'll be lurking these threads, though my plan was to just go by the Logical Increments guide.

Noctua includes thermal paste already and it's top-tier as well, with enough for a ton of applications.
>>58879334
There's a real lack of minimal cases with premium build quality that also have conveniences like dust filters. You have to go boutique for that kind of shit.
>>
If you don't have thunderbolt 3, have VGA on your motherboard, don't have wifi or Bluetooth built into your mobo or with a PCIE card, use anything besides 4 pin fan headers or can't control your fans with software, you may as well throw your shit in the trash.

I don't understand why this hobby is so held back by holding onto proprietary/traditional shiz. Fuck your proprietary BIOS, fuck your random manufacturer motherboard "features", fuck your proprietary drivers.

>>
>>58879339
Logical Increments is good.
But also try this:

https://choosemypc.net/

It helps to give first time builders are build to work around.
Then you can add/change things until youre happy.
>>
>>58879420
IMO yes. HDMI needs to die by the way, forgot to mention that.

I appreciate the fact we can "build" these things but there just aren't any standards whatsoever.
>>
>>58879333
First of all, get evga 600b. Its $40 cheaper. No one gives a shit if 80+ gold, its 80+ bronze. Secondly, if you can cut down your pircies a bit and get a smaller drive, you could get a m.2 drive. Would recommend. Lastly, pretty sure your cooler already comes with a compound.
>>
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YqZZr7
(I have already have a 1TB SSD)

Is the Strafe just a meme keyboard? If it is, what's a better, quiet mechanical keyboard?
>>
>>58879430
Fractal design is top tier for build quality, the r5 has been used by almost every tech reviewer as a test case at some point

Theyre not chosen that often due to cost for the simple they are. They're basically just metal boxes and people want more style for their money.
>>
>>58879435
A bit overkill - but maybe youre future-proofing for a more powerful build later on?
>>
>>58879437
Thanks yo. I'm not a noob when it comes to HW, I generally know what's what, I just need to know what the current hot items are right now for reliability and performance.

I'll be sure to cross compare all these things though.
>>
>>58879466
What do you mean more powerful? According to the hierarchies, the 1070 is like the 3rd best card available and the 7700k is the best consumer chip from this generation

Maybe a better question is what kind of specs would someone need for a 1000+ watt power supply?

I own an R5 and a Node 304. The 304 has a nice aluminum front panel facade, but the rest is all plastic and thin-ish steel. R5 had a disappointing looking and feeling front panel. Same thin-ish steel as well. Plastic top too left me wanting something more. That's not to say both aren't solidly built, I'm just saying that I want something more, especially when we're getting laptop chassis made fully out of aluminum and carbon fiber.

Try finding some Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP-15.
Noctua fans the PWM F12 are good for static pressure too there's also some other low-price fan that is way better than the price make it to be but I can't remember if it was Aerocool or some other maker.

Look around, but make sure it's having enough static pressure since the FPI on the Corsair H series radiators is high, meaning it needs a strong fan to push air through, not a fan that have lots of CFM.

After typing this out I got some hints that NoiseBlocker Eloop B12-2 are good.

Just google "Best radiator fans" and you'll find something.

Get the GQ 650w instead for $72ish. Almost the same quality, cheaper, more wattage for possible future expansion.
Get two sticks of ram. Your mobo has 4 slots. Dual channel makes a difference in a fair few games (like Witcher).
Your machine is going to be ugly as sin with stock heatsink and green bare ram/ssd, so I advise against a case with a window.
Get a 6gb 1060 or a 4gb Rx 480. The performance is within single digit% in almost all games.
Motherboard seems really expensive. Iirc that used to sell for $120. It's also a "z" series board meant for overclocking. Get a cheaper one or get a cpu with a "k" on the end (6600k, 7600k)
If Kabylake price is similar, get the i5 7500 instead. A b250 or h270 board.

Since you have an Intel, use RealTemp 3.70
Much better and more accurate since it have temp settings to show you the real temp values.

Not only that but it also has settings to show you GPU temps as well.
The reason I use it is because it also have a built in temp warning system (not that I ever need it with my temps) but it also records min and max temps at their respective time so you get the REAL temps huh huh.
I've made it so the Nvidia temps are green and Intel ones are blue that way I know exactly which is which without having to open the program.

If you want it to autostart on Windows 10 I can give you hte schedule script as well since Win10 and it's UAC ruins proper functionality.
>>
>>58880630
Oh

I checked the temps while I was downloading updates for Windows and other things. Nothing else running. Tried checking the bios but i could only see the cpu temp but I can check again
>>
>>58879016
You're doing in wrong if you remove the protective sticker from the bottom of the cooler at any time that isn't immediately before putting it on.
>>
>>58880630
It's a common issue with asus motherboards, if you boot back up in bios the motherboard temp should be fine.
>>
>>58880680
This.
Also the CPU is sitting firmly in a socket.
Even if it didn't it's not like the PGA pins on the AMD so no harm done by putting it on the table.
The only things you need to be vary of are the chips on the underside.
>>
>>58880663
I can try that. I'm 90% sure I was getting a wrong reading. Because all fans were working, no warmth coming from any component. Didn't touch anything but I'm sure I would feel heat if the temp was 118

When my 7970's fans had this annoying clicking and I just got sick of the cooler, I bought a prolimatech GPU cooler from frozenCPU
>>58880743
it was fun to install and worked a charm. it might be worth investing in something to stop your card from sagging if you do get an aftermarket cooler, I saw some really nice supports that go into expansion slots the other day.

anyway if you do, just be careful with installation. also: if you don't feel inclined to install the included VRM coolers, then don't worry too much. the stock VRM coolers did the trick for me when I didn't bother to install prolimatechs, because I thought I would save them for a better card.

I have a celeron g1610t lying around and have been thinking of building a small box out of it.

Is it still worth building ivy bridge machines? I've seen Intel motherboards for about £40 so I reckon I could get motherboard, case and ram for probably less than £150.

Thoughts? The CPU is cheap as fuck and if I need moar I can always find a more powerful used CPU.

I have this case but in black.

Wish I had gotten something else instead.

Bought it because I wanted lots of HDD bays and because it gets really hot in summer here but I ended up having to remove one HDD bay to install my 3 fans 299mm GPU.

The problem itself is not the GPU length but the HDD bays placement, there's like 40 to 50mm gap between HDD and one of the HDD bays overlaps just where the PCI-E slot is located, if they had been placed more throughly( just move then 2 or 3cm) they could have fit all the HDD bays and a big GPU without having to remove anything.

So in the end I only have space for 5 HDD, 4 if using only the HDD bays and 5 if screwing the HDD directly to the case floor which doesn't comes with rubber grommets.
The HDD bays do have rubber grommets where the HDD gets screwed but the bay itself doesn't and it gets docked in a way that it touches metal to metal and only one side can be secured by screws so while one side is tight and secure the other can be moved up and down.
Also the HDD bays can bend the case frame which causes noises.

The stocks fans aren't that great either, they need to run max rpms to push air through the HDDs even though the gap between HDDs is plenty.

The fan hub is cool but it it's impossible to run your CPU fan at low RPW and the case fans at high rpm unless you install an extra PWM fan just to control the hub which leads to the next problem;
if you have a closed loop like a H100i which reports a consistent CPU fan speed of something like 2000 rpm, you're forced to use a PWM fan just to control the Fan Hub.
A PWM fan gets connected to the hub and the hub connected to the CPU_FAN the all case fans report as the PWM fan(all cloned as 1 fan)

The case its big but temperatures aren't that great and there's zero sound dampening.

I would avoid this case and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, if you really want this case for some reason get the H440 instead, which is the same chassis but with noise dampening.

Get a Pentium G4560 instead, get a 200 series motherboard, get 2400mhz ram of the cheapest brand, your 2666mhx ram isn't even supported by that mobo, it would have ran at 2133mhz which is a waste of money. Get a rx 470, 450w will be more then enough.

I'm preparing for a Ryzen build; I'm bringing over my current drives and hopefully CPU cooler, but everything else is new. I'm in the US. My current system is a DDR2 Phenom II, so my idea of pricing may be dated.

I don't totally trust the "price leaks" for US pricing. Would it be reasonable to expect to get an 8 or 6 core for around 300 or 200 USD and a mid-high end motherboard for around 100? I have a Microcenter nearby - is it possible they may do some bundle sales at/near launch? They used to run some very good CPU deals, but that may not be the case anymore.

I have time to wait, so I'm trying to snipe out the odd good online sales while doing so. Are these realistic yet trigger-worthy sale prices for "passable" parts?

I'll be building a new computer within 1 or 2 months. My budget will be from 400€ to 900€. I live in France, Paris.
The reason for the odd budget is simply because I'm poor and count every penny I have and the last time I had to build a PC was nearly 7 years ago or something so I have no idea about anything that has happened PC-wise since then.

The PC I wish for :
Screen is 1920x1080. Being able to play pretty much all the games I wish, not necessarily in high settings but medium settings at least, and more than anything, smoothly and which would not damage or fatigue my computer in any way no matter what. With that said, I'm not envisioning myself to play a lot of the newer games, only recent one that comes to mind would be the latest Battlefield (or similar FPS games) as I'm more of a retro person. Still we never know. Oh I plan on emulating quite a bit, things like PS2 or Dolphin (N64/GameCube). I might want to try out the latest emulations stuff too (WiiU, etc). No idea if I need something super good or not for those.
I gamedev, for now strictly 2D, but in the future I might do lowpoly 3D models, those sorts of stuff, same here, no idea if it's CPU/graphic intensive or not. I draw (think Photoshop/SAI), sometimes I might want large canvas, same here I'd want something that could handle that.

All in all, more than top performances, I want something solid and consistent that will last me a long while and that could possibly not hinder me in anything I'd want to do, while keeping in mind that I'm not really a greedy person and that my budget can somewhat be limited. I already have a computer screen by the way, so this is just the PC itself. From my limited knowledge, I believe i7 would be too expensive and overkill, so I think an i5 would be good, but don't know about i3.

First time posting on this thread so I'm more or less testing the waters here, it's fine if I don't get spoonfed everything, I'm eager to learn anything I've missed. Thanks for reading.

RX460 2GB really isn't a good option, see if you can get a 1050Ti. Rest is decent. Is $450 your hard limit or could you spend or save up to $500?

Actually you only need to have the printed Windows 7 DVD.
Windows 7 was never sold digitally, so if you bought it properly and didn't pirate it, you own an installation DVD, flip it into the drive and are ready to go.
This is how I installed Windows 7 on my new 2016 Skylake laptop with its built-in SATA DVD drive and built-in PS/2 keyboard+mouse (so USB wasn't needed at all).
>like REALLY slow
The DVD is spinning for like ten minutes before all the files are on the internal HDD and it's way less effort than going through that cumbersome internal HDD installation method manually.
(You can still avoid all those caveats buy doing a proper unattended installation over network via a Remote Install Server, but that's even more effort.)

Thank god for EU regulations:

This covers anything which is faulty on delivery. And this manufacturing defect is easy to prove, so I can return it to the store before the machine bricks or the period expires.

6500 if you want to save money, otherwise the 7500. Performance wise there won't be much of a difference, if any.

If you're going to wait anyways then wait for Zen, it's comming in less than a month.
>>
>>58884989
Yeah I won't buy it before a month or so, still I'm already informing myself now to get back into it.

But Zen is AMD? Previous computer I had built was AMD all around and never felt really content with it, on the other hand other less powerful Intel secondhand computers I've had felt more reliable all around. I just don't want AMD ever again I think, just gives me a bad feeling.
>>
>>58885019
Weird, I had the opposite experience. I switched from AM3+ to LGA-1151 and it just feels less stable. I get application error messages on high CPU usage that I've never seen before on AMD.

Just wait for it and the benchmarks, if it's shit, then you can always get Intel.

Hi, should I change anything about this build? also got some questions.(EU!)

CPU: i5 7500
GPU: gtx 1060/RX 470 (which one is better? price is basically the same in EU)
PSU: Is 500W sufficient or should I get a 600+ one? Logical increments recommends 620W
Motherboard: No idea here, looking for a cheaper one than the €130 on logical increments. Suggestions?
8GB RAM
250GBSSD
1TB HDD
>>
>>58884368
Oh I see, how do I figure out the ideal one to purchase? Looking for the best compromise between power and price.
>>
>>58885367
If you can then get a RX480, 500W is still enough and for the mobo just get a cheap/decent B250, usually cost around 70-90€.
>>
>>58880164
I can get two maglev for $30 so that is decent $15 per fan

Really quite pissed however that corsair end up making you pay more for their shit even though it seems like you get a cheap priced $100 radiator with them
