Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price, or improve specs or build quality.

>Assemble your parts list with price comparisons by vendor and compatibility filter.
https://pcpartpicker.com

>Have a budget, but don't know where to start? This will recommend you a parts list based on price.

>Information about how to assemble a PC, how to select components, etc.
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/Build_a_PC

>Subsitute a G4560 with 2400MHz RAM for any Pentium or i3; similar performance, up to 50% cost reduction.
>Consider using an i5 6500/7500 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build.
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any i3 or locked i5 build without a Z mobo.
>Consider a H110/B150 (old chipset needs UEFI update BEFORE installing CPU) or B250 mobo for any Pentium or i3 build.
>Add a 240GB SSD to the "Very Good" tier build.
>The only worthwhile gfx cards are the GTX1050Ti, RX470, RX480, GTX1060 6GB

Will do. I don't think I'll be able to list alternatives though, that's why I like to keep a .txt on the side too.

May I ask why the i5 7400 and not 7500?
Anyway I tried my hand at it, not sure what I'm doing though but here it is so far :
https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/pbpTNN

Also, stupid question : is it possible to get delivered all pieces from same seller so I don't end up paying stupid amount of fees? I can't build the PC myself but I really don't feel like having to go to Paris and carry everything by hands, don't want to get mugged on the way.

get a kit of 2x4GB instead and you're good, less is not recommended.

>is it possible to get delivered all pieces from same seller
you can check which sites pcpartpicker pulls prices from and go to their site and make a shopping list and get everything from one place, but you might get a higher cost if you do.

and it says in the list if there's shipping fees or not.

dont you have a postal office near you?

Yeah I do, that's not a problem to get it delivered here. They're not listing any fees, it might be because it's set on amazon.fr, and amazon don't make you pay anything if what you're getting get too expensive.

Isn't that a bit too low though? Not that I know what I'm talking about.
Here we are so far, pic related.

About the RAM, 2133 is fine? I see there are more expensive ones with higher values.
Regarding the graphic card, does the brand matter? I was seeing a lot of variety.
Is the mobo ok? It's not doing useless shits I don't need with that current build? Though I don't think there was a cheaper one available.

Hi guys, I have this computer since December 2009 or 2010 I think. I would like to keep it. Here are my specs how can I fix my computer to make it comparable to today's desktops without replacing it?

I'm guessing getting more RAM and a new CG, I would like some propositions that aren't too expensive if possible. Thanks a lot.

>2133 is fine
Yes but 2400 costs the same and is slightly better.

Yes and yours is fine.
>Is the mobo ok
Yes, decent choice but a bit pricey at 93€, there are other decent Gigabyte, MSI and ASRock mobos around 70-80€.
See if you find something. Also consider a <25€ cooler, Intel one is enough but that thing is pure shit.
>>

Wait to see if Intel cuts prices. Also, will you be using a GPU? If not then maybe it's worth it to wait until the summer for the APUs, that's what I'm going to do

Made upgrade to 6700k and now I'm left with 3570, atx mobo and 8 gigs of 1600Mhz ram. I wanted to get something like a Silverstone Sugo 13 and slap a 400w PSU in it so I can have a nice mini itx PC to tinker with, using it as a router or media center pc hooked up to tv.

Only problem I have with is finding a Mini ITX 1155 socket mobo since they've been discontinued for two years now. Especially finding one that actually has support for frontal USB ports. I live in UK btw.

The thing is I'm not knowledgeable at all regarding mobos, I wouldn't know what to pick.
>>
I apologize if this is the wrong thread to ask, but is it worth it to pick up a 1070 over a 1060? It's about 130 dollar difference
>>
>>58888488
>He will NEVER reach more than 200W total peak
Not according to PCP. He can reach up to ca. 280W with a RX470 + 7500.
450W is still enough, even 430W is for such a build, but 500W will enable you for future upgrades and to reuse the PSU for virtually no cost.
You can get EVGA B, SeaSonic S12 (or so), XFX XT, etc. in 500-550W range for not much more, like $5 or so.

>>
>>58888617
No it comes with brackets for the radiator and Harddisk. Trying to figure out how I am going to get my GTX970 inside this thing without breaking it on the other hand...
>>
>>58888678
Your CPU is very good so it shouldn't bottleneck 1070. However if you actually are going to pull the trigger I would make the jump to 1440p ips or 1080p ultrawide whichever you prefer. 1060 is strong enough for 1080p imo.
>>
>>58888687
No, it just looks like the fan and the dust filter are held on with the same screw. Which would mean that if you removed the dust filter, then the fan would be loose.

Also, practice your GPU gymnastics.
>>
>>58888680
yeah, just offered $140 for a 4690k. lets see what happens.
>>
>>58888602
I don't know what PCP is, but if it's a power supply calculator it's normal that the value is higher than reality. 280W will never happen on that build. Even at constant peak loads it won't go higher than 200~215W

I understand the concern with future upgrades, but we're moving to a more efficient tech world so the future is low wattage. 450W is more than enough. Personally I wouldn't spend extra, even if it's just 5$, for something I don't need at all
>>
>>58888578
Something like this for example: https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/y7MhBP
Never realized how sad french Amazon is, feel sorry for you. If you feel like upgrading in time consider a 500W PSU, otherwise 450W is fine.
>>
>>58888718
Gotcha thanks for the info.
>>
>>58888734
that seems like a bit much imo.
>>
What happened to RAM prices, they have seen to gone up in price like %25 across the board. I tried googling, but couldn't find a reason for it. Is it a Jewish conspiracy?
>>
>>58888608
Just get the best haswell you can afford. Theres no sense in changing your mobo or worst case mobo and memory if you go to kaby lake like that one poster suggested.
>>
>>58888742
PCP = pcpartpicker

I agree with what you said about power usage and the future. there's no need to get a higher watt PSU

>>58888763
yes some shit with fabs
>>
>>58888763
They will go up by another 25%. From what I understand it's usually some sort of a meme factory fire that gives them an excuse to skyrocket prices. We had the same shit going on with HDD few years ago.
>>
>>58888742
>I don't know what PCP is
See OP.
>for something I don't need at all
If you don't it's fine. If you want some freedom those $5 are well spent.
Another thing to consider is that PSUs have peak efficiency around 50-60% load and degrade over time.
>>
>>58888745

>tfw i bought several HDDs for cheap just a few weeks before it happened

>>58888794
depends if the mobo has 2 or 4 dimm slots
>>
>>58888573
>For what purpose?
If the IPC turns out to be at Broadwell level or higher, then it's not worse IPC compared to Haswell. But the unlocked multiplier and XFR are really appealing.
>>
>>58888794
the difference is negligible despite the common belief that dual channel is always better

Also, one 8GB stick would give you more room to upgrade in the future

Futureproofing isn't smart, especially with Nvidia and their lack of hardware supported async in dx12 games. Unless you're some sort of CUDA engineer I don't see a point. You'd be much better off buying whatever suits you now, use it for 2-3 years and then sell it for half price thus saving 50% on next purchase. That's what I did with my old 970 gtx, bought it for 300 quid, sold it to some British Pajeet for 160 almost 3 years later via Ebay (Well 144 desu cause of 10% tax).

In some games, but an i3 is fully capable of running pretty much all games. The 480 is about on par with 390, which in turn is about on par with 290x, and the 470 is obviously a little weaker than the 480, so it wouldn't be a very big upgrade.

well im willing to push to 700 all in first time. I dont want much out of it. Can i just use my t.v pc option and a HDMI cable instead of invest in a moniter? i like playing in bed with the missus watching (on the ps3 i mean).

Im sick of consoles now so really i see it as a long term investment in playing games.

I would've gone with Caselabs but their fucking pedestals only come in PSU-flavor.

If the Magnum pedestals could host a mini-ITX system instead of 2xPSU I would've gone with the STH-10.

Instead they went with 4 PSU mounts for a single node chassis ...
>>
>>58889377

no problem

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/ That's 421 quid + 160 quid for https://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/amdradeongraphicscards/radeonrx470series/strix-rx470-o4g-gaming.html which gives you a full rig with monitor for a total of 580 pounds, probably 600 if you include shit like cheap mouse and keyboard. Remove monitor and you have a 500 quid rig. It was a quick pick so

a) Keep in mind pcpartpicker isn't perfect so check each part for lower prices in stores that aren't listed like scan or novatech

b) You probably could get something better when it comes to pc case, I just went for first thing that looked decent had positive reviews and was rather cheap.

But yea this is a pretty good start that you build upon, went for b250 mobo so you can easily upgrade to another more powerful kaby in the future.

Is it worth upgrading from an i7 4790K/16GB/GTX 980 for photo editing? I've already, completely switched over to SSDs and it's been a massive improvement, but still thinking everything can go faster and smoother.

professionally? probably yes. wait for ryzen before you upgrade tho.
>>
>>58890923
>Is it worth upgrading
Entirely depends on how much you're willing to spend. Surely a new i7-x700 or higher with DDR4 will be an improvement.
Point is, if you have to choose between such an upgrade and other maybe more important investments, don't upgrade.
Your system is still very potent for productivity.
Also wait for Ryzen, you are a good candidate for an 8C16T Ryzen, they'll probably range from approx. $340-680.
>>
>>58890983
Provided they benchmark at the promised quality. If they do compete with the 6900 (which is over $1000) it's going to probably result in price warring or intel releasing another model up.

If they don't? Price adjustments will probably be local to the level of the intel CPU it's at, just so intel can screw over AMD.

Of course. No sane person will buy a CPU for 600 fucking bucks if it benches like shit.
>compete with the 6900
From the official AMD event is supposedly does, i know.. official event benchmarks and shit, but i doubt they'd lie.
If AMD doesn't deliver with Zen they are finished. They hyped Zen into the heavens and if they fail to deliver not only they'll lose a probably delicate amount of money from production, marketing and R&D, but which is even worse, goodwill and trustworthyness.
In the case is really fails imho AMD should just shut down it's CPU/APU market and focus on GPUs or focus on the budget market to compete with Pentiums and such.
>>
>>58891110
Or just make it really cheap. That is their niche. They're, what, 15% of the market or something?
>>
>>58891128
Even if they dump the prices, goodwill and trustworthyness will be damaged after their viral marketing.
They could try to compete in the i3 range since Intel doesn't offer anything worthwile themselves.
Imho 7th gen i3's aren't worth it like at all. G4560 is too good and the unlocked i3's OC like shit.

>>

>>
>>58891254
>a killing from consoles
no they're not
>>
>>58891254
Nah, it's an incredibly low margin market that nvidia and Intel want nothing to do with. They don't even get any brand recognition out of it as they couldn't even manage to negotiate getting their logo displayed anywhere on the products or even mentioned on the box.

I'm thinking of getting one of these old prebuilts with the i5-3470, stuffing my old GTX460 and an old pair of 2gb ram sticks inside for 8gb total, and using it for muh cnc programming.

Is this a decent use of $100?

Will I even be able to fit a graphics card inside the weird compact HP case?

Is that a fucking pcie parallel port? Will it work with Mach3?

yes.

what?
>>
>>58891802

Mach3 is CNC software that drives stepper motors through a parallel port. But it's a pit persnickety about the exact details of the parallel port timing, and usually won't work with ye olde PCI parallel ports. They sell special USB d But I've never really tried using a PCIE one before.
