Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

>Assemble your parts list with price comparisons by vendor and compatibility filter.

>Have a budget, but don't know where to start? This will recommend you a parts list based on price.
>Consider substituting an i5 6500 for an i3 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any i3 or locked i5 build

What risks do I run with putting high-capacity HDDs in my system? I read the Puget Systems article and I'm considering expanding my storage with a 4-6TB WD Red drive because they have silencing technology and pretty good reliability it seems like.

Here are the parts I'm thinking of buying for my first build. What do you guys think?

>>
>>58392588
I had three 5TB and three 4TB in my tower. They're cheaper than buying 4 or 5 1TB hard drives. People are afraid that a dead hard drive might cause them to lose all that data, but those same idiots don't understand the concept of backing up your data on a different hard drive, DVDs, or tapes.

...How reliable are the old WD 10K RPM workstation hard drives? I've had them for a decade and I'm worrying I might need to upgrade before everything rips pepperoni

Is there any particular keyboard that you like to use instead?

He's making wild speculation and isn't even right. Ryzen is outperforming Broadwell E while underclocked and on a validation board.
>>
>>58393027
Keyboard's fine for 60 bucks. Mine is worth over three times that.

You could go cheaper on the motherboard and get essentially the same features, but in an uglier package.

NEX PSUs are B-tier. You also don't really need full modular practically speaking, semi-modular does the job exactly the same.

Here's what I've got. I placed a pretty high priority on achieving the black and silver aesthetic. Only parts I'm still waiting on are the Mobo, Processor, and HDD.

I took a lot of inspiration for this build from this build: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/zd4CmG

I really would like to get custom cables and cable everything the way this guy did as it looks really organized and the silver cables would fit the black and silver theme I was trying to stick to.

When it comes to placement of the radiators for the CPU and GPU I would do it the way he did if possible but I'm not sure if my case will allow that. This will be my first time building a PC.

If you're playing at 1080p, its overkill. A 1060 is fine for anything at 1080p right now. If you're planning on gaming in 4k or 1440p a 1070 might be justified.

Just about right, 1080p60 fps/hz is literally perfect, at 144hz youll get probably 70-90 fps depending on title and settings used assuming these setting are full ultra. But since youll be a good part above 60 fps in most games at 1080p yeah geyt a 480.

the CPU is 1.5 the width of my thumb. ram about as long as the palm of my hand... i now think every Pc Reviewer on youtube is 3 feet tall with Hobbit hands, because the parts looked so much larger in their hands.

even the PSU which looked like a hulking mass in picture is only the size of 2 sandwiches stacked.
>>
>>58396195
PSUs are chunky, "two sandwiches" is a really bad comparison, but yeah, ram sticks and CPUs are kinda small, it's not that big of a deal

I don't really care about gaming really other than low requirement shit my laptop can already max.

So I'm putting together a 1080p gaymen build and ended up with this. What do you guys think?

Also I'm trying to shave off a bit of the cost. I already understand that I should knock off the CPU cooler. What else would you guys recommend?
>>
>>58396789
It was 4k 70 with literally everything as high as it goes, even 8x TSAA. This should beat a 1080. Which can get 60 in some games, 45-50 in others.

Only Vulkan, OpenGL runs well enough, but Vulkan is basically a direct PED injection for AMD cards.
>>
>>58396916
My 1070 runs doom on ultra 1440p 120fps
>>
>>58396951
Vulkan has two games.
TWO.
It's not game-optimized for anybody, which is why both games (doom and Dota) are constantly shilled by AMD
>>
>>58397090
Well considering it debuted just last year i wouldnt call it DOA. Besides its not like well be on DX11 until the end of time. We both know it wont take long before MS starts to """"push"""" DX12
>>
>>58397072
cool, hopefully ill be able to push 144hz then.
>>
>>58397193
DX12 is objectively superior to DX11, DX11 looks like a shitshow compared to these new lower level APIs, Microsoft doesn't have to push it
>>58397227
Doom runs amazingly on everything, that's not a difficult task to accomplish with doom (on "high" my 1070 does it fairly consistently) but settings don't make as much of a difference in doom as in other games

Poorfag Britbong here, paycheque came in so I'm about to pull the trigger on this build. Posting it again to see if anyone has any more suggestions. I've got a 240gb SSD I'm going to be using for the build too.

Okay- a few questions.
It's time to upgrade, but I don't want to throw a huge amount of money at my pc.
1- my keyboard died and I'm looking for a good sub $50 keyboard. Suggestions?
2- I'm running a 4GB msi GTX 760, would I be better off running sli to upgrade, or straight buy a new card?

Sooooooo, anons, what i wanted out of this build was....
Kind of quiet
Smallish case
Storage set in raid0
With wifi cabailities
I want a sound card

This is meant for nice vidya

And tons of fps
At around 1500$

What's a decent, cheap and quiet CP cooler?

I was looking at cryorig h5 ultimate. Runs around 57USD here in nippon.

I doubt I'll be OCing to more than 4.5Ghz in the immediate future.
>>
>>58397503
That cooler is shit and I assume loud, spend the 10 extra dollars and get a hyper 212 evo or cryorig H7 or whatever
Why do you want a sound card? You don't need one and if you do need one, an external DAC would be better
You do NOT need $80 of noctua fans.
That's a rebranded Intel wifi card, the original one is like $5 cheaper
That SSD is SATA only, you want a NVME drive for fast M2, and specifically a 950 or 960 pro is a step above most other NVME drives in speed. I have an Intel 600p NVME drive, it blows away SATA SSD in seq reads but is near equal in all other tests. The 950 pro is like 3-5x faster in all tests
Why get HDDs in raid as a requirement? You could just get cheap drives or a big SATA SSD for speed and capacity, they're getting cheaper per TB nowadays
It will run 1440p at tons of fps, my 6600k/1070 build does
>>
>>58397373
An i3 6100 will do but the i5 is fine too. Depends if you really need to make it cheaper. Other wise its a good build for 1080
>>
Is it finally time to upgrade from muh 2500k @ 4.5 or stick to the waiting meme?
>>
>>58397503
>>58397594
And you don't need to pay for Windows home, and if you want pro getting an oem activation code is cheaper
If you don't use cd/DVDs a lot you can skip the optical drive and just buy one when you need one
You can also get faster ram of you want, 3000mhz is usually at good prices
>>
>>58397594

Coo coo,

i do not want a cpu cooler to be a block on sticking out, ie. Small form factor.

I have a lot of important files, i just NEED the reliablility of hdd in raid0.

Plus i want most of the pcie and m.2 slots to be filled

I do not inted on removing drives, so i dont care about a 2.5inch ssd

What would you reccomend for quiet fans, thats what im going for..

>>58397627

Rodger

I forgot to add that im going to install a card reader.
>>
>>58397705
You have a full ATX case, small form is out of the question and the cooler is inside the fucking case
Raid 0 is actually less safe than no raid at all, you want raid 1 for the constant backup
That doesn't explain why you got a SATA m2 instead of an NVME m2
What the duck does removing drives have to do with 2.5", get a regular ssd
>>

for a build this high tier, you are cheaping out on the psu, go with a 600w 80+gold full modular psu.

if you are going to watercool this high tier, go all the way with it and get a watercooled 1080

I don't know how good nzxt's watercooling support is, but fractal design's cases have great support, consider them.

overall, the build will tackle just about anything you throw at it with ease.

Hey /g/ I'm building a PC and wanted to know what improvements I can make to my parts list.
I'll be playing games like Battlefield 1, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. CoC, Rust, ARMA 3, CS:GO , Star Citizen, Civilization 6, DOOM 4, GTA Online, METRO, and Witcher 3.

I'll be using software such as Sony Vegas, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office.

A few questions I'd like answered:
1. Should I get a CPU cooler?

well no. a 7600 is an i5.

but if you compare a 6700k to a 7700k you'll see they're essentially identical in every respect. basically intel took a 6700k, clocked it 200MHz higher and then printed some new boxes with a 7 instead of a 6.

it took them 18 months to complete this innovation. it's the sort of thing apple fanboys would be proud of.

actually, I take back my previous statements, here, hardwarecanucks does seem to cherry pick a little with dx12 and amd favored games, but what still stands is that the rx 480 has nearly, if not completely closed the gap between the cards, edging out the 1060, and getting edged out by the 1060 depending on the game. also the 480 is pulling further ahead in dx12 (again, not that it matters too much).

>EVGA Firepro Edition GPU

Lol.

Go with the Zotac AMP.

And make sure you have a monitor with Gsync.
>>
>>58400105

Why the AMP over the EVGA? I am heavily leaning towards the AMP because of the 80$ price difference but I'd like to know what it's sacrificing to make itself 80 bucks cheaper. Is it much louder? I was hoping for a quieter card this time around as my current is very loud.
>>
>>58400131
Im not sure if they fixed this, but some of the EVGA cards had defective Transistors that would spontaneously explode. EVGA got unlocking with the batch they were using in the past few months.

not sure if they corrected it yet.
>>
>>58400273

I see. Can I get any advice on the mobo and case I chose? Is there something better available for similar prices or cheaper? I'm trying to minmax my build as best I can.

Someone fucking help me because I have no way of being able to tell what's what

I want to have my 6700k and 1070 @ 2100 Mhz running reasonably quiet while the 6700k is @ 4.7 or so Ghz

I have an NZXT x61 and could use that in whatever case but there is a good chance those stock fans will be fucking loud

Eh, stay away from Asrock if your budget can help it.
Gigabyte, MSI, Asus are a good group of brands to pick from.

500-600

Go with the Core 1000 in that case.

It's a bit tough to build in, but as long as your videocard is under..200cm or so, you'll have to check, you should be fine.

I am moving to China soon and my old build is both way too big (Define R4) and really old and outdated (6870 that fucks up a lot). I have heard PC parts in China are really overpriced, so I want to make a micro-itx build small enough to take onboard as a carry-on, because I don't want to risk having the parts get damaged or lost with my luggage as a checked in bag. Questions:
>Are the TSA retarded enough that they would think it's a bomb and deny it as a carry-on?

Anyone ever done something similar?

So I have a couple questions about my upcoming build for this summer. Part list so far, going for a black and white theme:

>Thermaltake Core P5 case
>Gigabyte Aorus GA-AX370-Gaming 5 mobo
>High end Ryzen CPU
>High end Vega 10 GPU in white/black/both
>16GB of Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 ram
>Western Digital Black 5TB HDD
>120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD from my current rig
>Corsair RMx PSU

So, now my questions:

Would it be worth getting the 4x4 instead of the 2x8 Dominators?

If I want to slap a second GPU in there at some point, will an 850W RMx be enough or should I spring for the 1000W? I Plan on overclocking as much as possible which leads me to-

I want to do liquid cooling in this build. I have not done liquid cooling before. What is the best kit (keeping the white and black theme in mind) I should get for this build? I want hard tubing, a triple radiator, reservoir and pump, the whole shebang. The coolant is going to be white. Also, how much of a pain in the ass would it be to add in a second GPU down the line if going with liquid cooling? Is draining the coolant to add more tubing, and a crossfire bridge, to the loop a bitch or is it relatively simple?

Last small thing. where would I find custom cables for the modular PSU I'm picking up? I want to get cables that are black and white patterned.
>>

I have no functional computer right now. Laptop died. It's all backed up happily.

what the hell do you need a 1200w psu for? you are not running an FX-9590 with 300 series 4 way crossfire with the addition of 10 hdd's, like hell man. also why full tower? I know those things are comfy but do you know how big those cases are compared to even a mid tower?

go for the 500gb ssd

Thats right, as a shitty CPU will die and its better to find out while under warranty.

CPU's and graphics cards come with ridiculous amounts of safeties nowadays that will prevent any damage from normal operation. You'd pretty much have to intentionally try to harm your CPU to damage it.

I can't tell but that Hyper 212 Evo Fan better be in pull or I'm going to flip a bitch.

I'm not the best example of wire management but there are a few improvement areas.

If the psu has a dust cover on the bottom I prefer having the fan facing down for reasons but it's preference there.

Why is the ssd diagonal?

No complaints with the parts.

So I'm about finishing my build and upon turning on for the first time the system doesn't boot up every time, and when it does it says to connect a power supply cord to the graphics card in the PCI-E slot.

I'm reusing the powersupply that was in my case from my last build (like 6 years ago). I think it has enough output to handle what I put in it still, but my new GPU the GTX 1070 has a 8 pin power slot and the largest my PSU has is 6 pin, only one 8 pin and that is plugged in for the motherboard. Can I just buy an adapter for the 6 pin? Will a cheap one fuck my shit up?

Pic related my issue, my GPU power slot with the largest available cord. It fits but leaves two open obviously.

parts for reference:

>6 yo el cheapo psu without 8pin connector

If you had 3 12v (yellow) wires I'd say you'd be fine, but it doesnt look like it.

it probably wont fry your system but the GPU may not even power.

deepcool gammaxxx, same performance.

>>
>>58401621
Just buy a new PSU, You can get molex adapters but that is a bit dodgy.
>>
>>58401590
well lets see
1.I don't know why you bother with rgb fans if the paint is not color neutral.
2.at this high tier, you can afford to go all the way with watercooling, so get a watercooled or hybrid 1080 to minimize heat contamination and reduce temps.

other than that you are gold.
>>
>>58401621
6 to 8 adapter should work but it's not recommended, you PSU is not designed to power that graphics card.
