Second for Seagull 1963
>>
Was at a flea market in HK and saw some omega and rolex fakes that looked over a decade old.

They were charing $138 US for them.

I was expecting under $30. The seller wouldn't negotiate.

Fuck you Chinese lady
>>
>>58162456
I forgot to add the cons for MTP-VS01L-7B1, I'll have to manually correct the date display every month, it sounds tedious.

>Most mechanical watches with a date window just have a date wheel that increments every 24 hours and runs from 1-31.
>The owner is expected to manually correct the date on the first of the month following any months that have fewer than 31 days (5 times a year).

I'd love to have a smart watch so I can pick watch face that I like, but too bad the battery is a joke. I don't care about notification, fitness tracker or other features I don't need.

You have go through this excruciating process 5 times a year, it's really not as horrible as you are making it out to be.

5 has bloated lugs+crown guards.

It is definitely, although be warned: as an auto it is fragile. If you're clumsy like me, you'll drop it like I did, or you'll bang it against the corner of a door, and it will be fucked.

If you're clumsy U have 2 solutions:
- either buy a quartz watch, preferably à citizen ecodrive bm8180
- or buy multiple watches and start à collection: then u wont bé sad when u kill one of them

I did both, my autism is safe

I never said those didn´t exist, and I have seen a couple of rarities here an there, but you might want to stay away from automatic pocket watches due to their inefficient architecture as they doesn’t get enough movement to properly wind up the watch.

Got this Stauer auto today, sitting in my grandpa's being unused for a few years. http://www.stauer.com/item/stauer-1944-ritorno-timepiece-17456/17456

Wound it up, it lagged about 5 minutes behind per the hour. Wore it all day to get mechanical energy too.

Each tick doesn't appear to be slower. But random seconds appear to totally stop for a few seconds. It then randomly continues by chance or when the watch is bumped.

What are the steps to fix it? It's $350 retail but it's obviously not more than a $80 watch. Do I take it in for repairs or can I do anything to it?
>>
>>58172151
If it has been lying around for a few years it might just need to be lubricated.

You can't really do it yourself without a fair bit of experience, and tools.
The price will depend on who you ask. Some will not even work on chinese movements.
You would probably have more luck finding a small watch repairer than in a big shop; more often than not, those only service movements that they know.

>It just feels as a redundant thing on your wrist, especially when guys tend to wear very big watches.

Well we used to have a dedicated timekeeping device for our pockets, they were called "pocketwatches". Only problem was it was a bit annoying having to dig something out of your pocket and put it back every time you wanted to check the time.

Luckily someone invented something a bit more convenient if you just want to check the time, and furthermore you could get them in all kinds of beautiful designs with amazing features and functionality as well.

>>
>>58177386
Well big watches are 100% fashion and 0% "I actually need to know what time is it". People wearing those generally check the time on their phone out of habit and barely check their watch.

Others actually appreciate a watch, partly because their activities require them to know the time, and partly because they do a lot of things with their hands and can't reach for their pocket repeatedly. They're not necessarily rich businessmen, most really are nurses, sailors and teachers. And parents: once you have kids, keeping track of time becomes a matter of life or death, and your hands will be occupied for the next 12 years at least.

You can still afford any Casio, even if you're a poorfag. Don't think putting more money in it will make it durable, Casios are currently the most durable watches there is, simply don't expect a killer design for $10.

i love it when fuccbois come at me with their granpas' beat up geneve. A watch so dated you might as well be wearing a beat to shit timex. There are literally no merits to the geneve and it's a watch as basic as ugg boots.

Nothing wrong with wearing a dated watch anon, and all the merit I need is that it was my gramps.
On top of that its a nice looking watch with a great movement.
What are you wearing today anon?
>>
>>58177837
Ignore the moron! A twenty year old Swiss watch, will have a better quality movement than most of the mid tier Chinese built "Swiss" labeled watches out there! Just take it to a good watch repair shop to get it cleaned and oiled.

I inherited an old Wakmann watch from my father. One of these so called "watch experts" here told me it was a shit brand with a crap tier movement. I took it to get it serviced, and the guy at the watch shop showed me the movement when he removed the back of the case. It was a 17 jewel incabloc Swiss movement made by Breitling. He polished the crystal and the case, cleaned up the movement, and since then, it's kept perfect time. The case size is a little small by today's standards, but with a nice leather iStrap band, it makes for an excellent dress watch!

Well basically a watch can be "Swiss made" if most of its value was added in Switzerland.

Some have scams with subsidiaries selling them Swiss made 100€ screws and crown stems, which they mount on their 50€ chink made watches, and boom, the watch is now Swiss made! Others simply have "horlogers certifiés" walking through the warehouse and blessing the watch through their cardboard boxes right before shipping, instantly bumping their value by several thousand €uros.

Just like Japan made Seikos are made in Malaysia by Malyasian workers under the supervision of a nip.
>>
>>58178062
Never ever heard of this
The brand itself would instantly be seen if a scam if this is common knowledge
The Swiss would also be against this since it devalues their brand
Any example of such a company?

>>
>>58178096
They obviously won't tell you, it's all based on rumors, the quality of those watches going down every year, their profit seemingly growing bigger and bigger, reports of them receiving regular shipments from abroad, chink providing high-quality clones meaning knowledge of manufacturing processes meaning manufacturing is in China... that's a lot of things that are frequently pointing out that they may just be cheating the whole thing.

>>58178103
Tissot actually isn't on the list of culprits last time I checked, though Swatch (the company, not group) is because everything but the movements is made in China.

I don't really have an issue with parts being made in China. What isn't these days.
But if the movement, assembly and inspection is from there too then fuck them

>Omega China sources up to the maximum legally allowable under Swiss law
>They use a lot of Chinese parts.
>The "Swiss made" designation states that 60% of the value of the watch must come from Switzerland, and final assembly must be done in Switzerland.
>That means you can assemble a watch from a mix of Swiss and non-Swiss parts, often Chinese, and it will fall under "Swiss made".
>This is the reason you often see decorated oscillating weights made from an expensive metal on an otherwise stock movement. It has a big "value", but is very easy to make, so it's an easy way to push the Swiss value over 60% and gain the right to the "Swiss made" phrase, which apparently means you can double the price of the watch and nobody will bat an eye.

I'm not going to unscrew the case back just to prove something that can be easily verified. Wakmann and Breitling have a share history that is easy to check. In point of fact, many vintage Wakmann watches were just rebadged Bretlings.
>>
>>58178303
Same watch, Bretling logo.
>>
>>58178303
yeah wakmann was an importer right?
some other anon here has a wakmann chrono that's also just a breitling iirc, it's pretty cool.
although the watch in your pic looks like shit.

under 38mm really? Theres not much to choose from. I thought 40mm is good to go for 17cm. I wish someone could provide pic with 17cm wrist and different case diameters..

>>58178138
Same size wrist. I find 38mm perfect for me. 40 for a sport watch like a diver.
I have a Ray, and that's I believe 41mm, and it's just a bit big for me.

Anyone knows where I can find the same kind of gear-edged bezel as pic related for a SKX?

I need something that provides actual grip, and I hate the flat as fuck coin-edge bezels like those on modern Seikos. Can't even find a vintage one.

>>

I didn't reply but that was correct. Weakest point on the watch is the crystal, I have some deep scratches as it is raised above the bezel.

I almost wish I got the bracelet version if only for the brushed finish, but the blasted finish is more resistant to wear.

movement has been very accurate at roughly -3 seconds per day, and it has not been babied. It's about a year old now

if I charge it before bed and have it at my bedside (or just fucking wear it because it's a 100 dollar beater), I've woken up at 4 in the morning and had it legible. That's roughly 6 hours
