Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

>Assemble your parts list with price comparisons by vendor and compatibility filter.

Hey pc builders, please help me build a new system, currently running off a computer built in 2011 which is still going okay, despite blue screens once a week.
Games I frequent include Overwatch, Rust, Rocket League and probably Fallout 4 amongst others as the Steam Winter Sale kicks in.

Current Specs include:
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6900 series (Sapphire)
Processor: Intel Core i& CPU 960 @3.20GHz (8CPUs)
Motherboard: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
RAM: 8GB

My friend build this one for me back in 2011 as I was quite computer illiterate, while I'm not the best now, I am a bit better. My budget is around $1000-1200 for a pure pc (no peripherals) and I live in Australia.

I assume at a base level I would want to get an i7 processor and at least 16GB of ram, however am unsure on the differences between running say two 2GB graphics cards or 1 4gb card. Am also quite clueless on the difference in motherboards.

Cheers

What do you think the best used GPU I could get on Amazon or Newegg is? Preferably not eBay or Craigslist.

I only have $100 to spend and want to play Street Fighter 5 (and eventually Marvel vs Capcom Infinite), both of which will run on UE4, is that counts for anything.

Wait for Ryzen.

Please.

Do NOT build a new PC right now, just wait for AMD to release their new CPU lineup, and hopefully intels prices will get cut and AMD will have something that's fresh as fuck on the market.

I have an msi rx 480 gaming x 4gb along with a i5 6400, and I'm getting abysmal fps in most modern games, it varies from 60-20 on recommended settings(usually high), and 1080p.
I get unstable fps on some older games also, I'm not sure what's wrong since my build should be fine for current games.
someone on another website said it's a cpu bottle neck but the cpu I have is fairly recent, plus according to online benchmarks with my gpu, and cpu I should be getting better performance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKDRISzMr18

Is "4k TV as a monitor" meme or not? This samsung UE40KU6000K looks pretty decent.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqhmi8zm8eg
But i'm not shure about my graphics card. Gtx760 have hdmi 1.4 which can support only 4k@30hz. But unofficially it supports MST which make it output 4k@60hz. TV have HDMI 2.0a. Will it work on 60hz?
>>
Here's what I never understood. I thought the GTX line was made by Nvidia and Radeon line by AMD.

>what is the big difference
More ports = more upgradability
>how many sata ports do i need
how many hard drives do you need?
>ram slots?
if you're doing ITX you get two, if you're doing X99 you'll typically get 8, otherwise you typically get 4. usually not a problem here
>pci-e slots?
if you don't intend to do SLI ever and don't have any special needs (physx processor, RAID card) then one is fine, but typically just get two if you aren't going ITX
>why do some cost $100 more and have the same amount of real estate
- better NICs (dual/quad nics, etc)
- better onboard audio
- faster PCIe lane speeds
- better at overclocking (power phases, overclocking tools etc)
- warranty and quality of components
- additional features like wifi, M.2, SATA express, etc
your motherboard should typically follow what your budget allows
>>
>>58131946
>no way to improve

Until you have 2x Titans you can improve
>>
>>58131707
something strange happened while playing deus ex md after getting into a fire fight I hid in a vent to escape the police, and I noticed while my cpu usage was still high (89%) my gpu usage shot up to 90%(fps went up to 109), but as soon as I left the vent into the crowded street it shot back down to 50% and fps was at 35

The top three for 1080p@60Hz:
>480 8GB
Most futureproof card at this price point. Very close to 1060 in DX9 games but beats it easily in DX12 and vulkan, and has plenty of VRAM on top of that.
>1060 6GB
Get this one if you value performance in recent and older games more than longevity.

The cheap card. It's a valid option if you have a tight budget.

Intel i7 6700
Gigabyte GA-B150M-DS3H

Here's the thing - a rather known IT magazine here wrote a "bestbuy gaming builds" article few months ago and pic_related is what they recommended for 9K HRK budget (which is like 1,2K €). Is it ok to just go with that, does anyone see anything subpar in their recommendations?

>>
>>58136109
I must ask, why.
50ish bucks more and you could have a decent overclocking setup. I feel like you're gimping yourself here.

And yeah, any ram that can clock above what the motherboard can support is downclocked to the speed specified.

It's not that bad of a recommendation. There are many things that one could improve, but not without making sacrifices elsewhere or going over the budget.

Only thing that stands out is the motherboard, you could save some cash by getting a cheaper b150/h110 motherboard.

>>58136690
I think they're using the "upgradeability" excuse. In theory you could sell that i3 to someone and replace it with used i5 6600k or i7 6700k later on. It'd only cause a net loss of about 100-150 euros.
>>
>>58133599
temps seem reasonable, nothing past 50-60c
could this be a faulty cpu, or possibly even a faulty gpu?
>>
>>58136690
They're either thinking about future upgrades or enabling XMP profiles for higher speed RAM. I don't think ASCock's non Hyper boards allow BCLK overclocking on non-K CPUs anymore.
>>
>>58136955
>I think they're using the "upgradeability" excuse. In theory you could sell that i3 to someone and replace it with used i5 6600k or i7 6700k later on

they essentially say the same thing when explaining their choice, that it supports both overclocking K processors, and upcoming KabyLake processors.

But I'm not into overclocking or partial upgrades, so ye, i can save there

>>
>>58137631
Because they don't want to bother with manufacture and distribution. They make a hefty profit for each card sold while the actual manufacturers fight hard to even pull even.

>>58137380
You oblivously cut budget on other parts to squeeze that 1070 in there, but it's alright. You really should've bought a SSD though. You could still add one later if you don't mind reinstalling windows.

>>58137359
Into the trash and so on. Settle for 480 and a proper CPU instead, but wait for Zen first.

>>58137721
Because people don't know anything about RAM. They see that CAS 13 and they're all over it because muh latency.

You're getting ripped off dude. Spend 30 bucks more for an RX-470 4GB that will last you longer. The price/performance is worse higher up in the 1050ti's, because the RX-470, a midrange card, can be bough for 20-30 more bucks more.

See below.

http://pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/#c=380,376&sort=a8&page=1

But if you're still deadset on a 1050ti-

MSI, Asus, PNY, Zotac, and EVGA all make great Nvidia GPUs.

What's with everyone buying 1TB drives in [current year]? You're paying less than 3x for 3tb, so why not just get that? Surely you'll fill it with something?

Also, SSD is manditory. If you already have a storage drive, skip buying another one entirely if you don't need one.

Don't need a custom cooler if you're not overclocking the chip.

It's the law of dumbass consumers

H170 mobo, got a nice ATX case for cheap. Alternatively, you can go back to the micro-atx mobo you had, but it'll be out out of place due to the size difference.
470 is a bit slower than the 1060 3GB, but the 1060 3GB has 10% less shaders than the 1060. And since it's rarely under 199/200 bucks, the 470 is a better buy.
Cheap, but good case. I have the Core 1000, would buy again 10/10.

I suggest you take a look at the EVGA G3 650/750W. It's an excellent successor to the G2. What could be interesting for you is that it has the "eco" switch one the outside / rear of the PSU.
This makes the fan to spin only under higher load or temps. You could also get the 850W version, it should stay with the fan off for a little longer.

Had a PC built/put together today, pic related. The "Unknown" RAM is
> G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB DDR4-3000Mhz
The GTX-1080 shows up as 4gig, but shows as 8GB in GPU z
The HDD/SSD came from my old rig. (As did the 1080, but that's less relevant).

I expected the new motherboard to need a clean install of windows/ubuntu because I read something about that on the internet, but I didn't. Good, no need to restore backups etc. afterwards, no need to install windows/ubuntu again.

ISSUE/QUESTION
I had to install a new ethernet driver. What other drivers do I need to install/remove/reinstall? And why does the RAM show up as @1069 MHz when it should be 3000 MHz (and in the bios/uefi it said 2200 MHz iirc). Finally, it recognizes my mouse/keyboard, but I mouse scroll doesn't work, and the speed settings are all fucked up (Even turning windows speed and mouse settings up to max, it's slower than it used to be). What do

Thanks, a retard
>>
>>58141682
Speccy shows the single channel (real) speed of your ram, multiply that by 2 and you have 2133mhz, stock speed ram. You need to enable XMP in the BIOS to get your speedy ram

You are absolutely retarded. This specific Bristol Ridge model is designed to compete with the likes of 6800K and 6900K, not 6600.
This means the single core performance is, of course, not as potent, but in multi core performance the Zen CPU tears the i5-6600 apart like paper.
Also, you don't measure a CPUs general performance by retarded games.

>This specific Bristol Ridge model is designed to compete with the likes of 6800K and 6900K, not 6600

There is only one socket for AyyMD and that is AM4. That means that this pathetic family of CPUs is a direct competitor to the LGA 1151 socket family from Intel. Cost-to-cost comparisons show that you're still better off with a six-core i7-6800K for $400 over a shitty $500+ eight-core Zen. An i7-6700K and i7-7700K will destroy any Zen chip.
>This means the single core performance is, of course, not as potent
Too bad that Zen is still behind Intel in multi-core performance too. Just look how close a 12-threaded CPU is to that shitty 16-threaded Zen. The $400 Intel Core i7-6800K is a significantly better buy than the flagship Zen. A 6700K or 6600K is even better for gaming.
Now shut up Poojeet. You've lost this time, yet again. AMD is still in the shitter, where it belongs.

>Cost-to-cost comparisons show that you're still better off with a six-core i7-6800K for $400 over a shitty $500+ eight-core Zen
Completely wrong. Zen wrecks the 6800K on multicore sine it is head to head with the 6900K which already outperforms the 6800K.

>i7-7700K will destroy any Zen chip
LOL. Kaby Lake already is dead on arrival. Shit performance for a shit price. You're better off buying Skylake instead of Kaby Lake.

So much wrong there, where do I even start?
>Zen wrecks the 6800K on multicore
If you look at the graph, the superior 8-core Broadwell-E architecture leads AyyMD's by double digits in all multi-core benchmarks. And it's barely 12% ahead of the 6800K (remember, this isn't the slightly faster 6850K at $500, but the SIMILARLY CLOCKED 6800K at $400). Similar to Broadwell-E my giddy ass.
>head to head with the 6900K
In just a single benchmark produced by AyyMD's marketing team which people across the internet have already debunked as AyyMD pulling Jewish shenanigans. That 6900K they used for the Blender demo was running on dual-channel memory and a specific instruction set disabled (because AyyMD does not support that instruction set. Maximum Jewing). A last gen 5820K can do that benchmark a few seconds faster than the 54 seconds it took Zen to do it in.

i.e. if you have 150 bucks, wait and save up 30 more for an RX 470.

if you're stuck with 135, buy a 1050ti.

The pricing is all kinds of fucked up with the 1050ti right now.

I know zen has just *barely* earned its place as intel's competitor, but come on, that's some hardcore Kaby lake shilling, the USB is the same, Xpoint (it's called optane now btw) doesn't exist and won't exist until after Kaby lake launches, and intels decision to unlock the i3 has nothing to do with this generation. Kaby lake does not have higher max clocks (they're actually worse due to temperature)
And hevc/vp9 works on 980s and all of the 10-series nvidia cards
>>
>>58143068
The mobo looks like a meme, maybe switch that. Definitely get 3000 RAM and a SSD. Samsung 850 EVO if you want to spend money, if not get a SanDisk Ultra II, Crucial MX300 or PNY CS1311.
You may want to get a better PSU if you want to OC. The 500/600B is good, but for your build i'd recommend something like a EVGA G2/3 or SeaSonic G.

1050ti is a step up from the 460, no doubt.

But the problem is it's pricing.
if it was 120 to 140 bucks, it would be alright, but since it's 130-168(Lowest priced RX 470 is 169.) the price/performance ratio is considerably higher/worse.
>>
>>58143443
You mean your games.

Minimum is 2GB with low detail on games.

Reccomended is 4GB with med-high details.

If you have a shitton of textures and details in games, you want 8 or more gigs. 8 usually does it.

you can technically get windows 10 for free using the media creation kit (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/) by just not putting in a product key, but there's a watermark on your desktop and you can't directly personalize using the personalize tab. otherwise it's fully functional afaik.

there are also cheap product keys you can get to supplement the media creation kit and get an "official" form of windows, but they're normally OEM which means you usually can't get support from microsoft.

either way it's reccomended you don't shell out 100 dollars for the microsoft version.

Hey /g/, built a cheap computer for my stepbrother. Got everything assembled, plugged in, computer turns on, but I get no video out either from the video card or the onboard video, and I have no idea if the motherboard is POST'ing or not.

I don't believe it is, because the computer will "run" for about 10 seconds, turn off for 5, then turn back on. Rinse and repeat.

I'm going back to Micro Center tomorrow to get a case speaker (the cheap case I got doesn't have one), because I have a feeling that will tell me what's actually wrong. Is a GPU necessary if I'm not running AAA games? Won't the onboard graphics of a decent motherboard be okay?

I'll need something to rip CDs and watch DVDs with (Room isn't big enough to have a TV). Also I don't want to use another USB port with an external optical drive

I bought a Steinberg UR22 MKII as an external interface/DAC but that's just for my monitors. I have other speakers which will connect to onboard audio for youtube videos/games
>>
>>58146855
A GPU isn't necessarily necessary... Just make sure you check where your onboard card benchmarks compared to other onboard cards, and how those compare to actual GPUs so you'll know if you can actually run the games you want to play.

Aside from that, you might as well get 2133Hz DDR4 RAM since that's what your motherboard will support, I would even go with 16 GB to be on the safe side.

You can get literally any optical drive, just whatever is cheap.

A 450-500 watts PSU will be fine. If you can find one that's modular or semi-modular, get it to save space for better airflow. Although it might not matter because it looks like that case has a panel in the back to stick wires behind.

Also make sure whatever monitor you're using is large enough for your workspace. I'm using two 1080p monitors for FL Studio, but a single 1440p or a widescreen display would probably be fine.
>>
>>58146963

I recall pirating Windows 8 pretty easily a few years back, is it hard to get activated windows 10 without paying right now?
>>
>>58146623
>audio production
>no sound card?
This is a recipe for soon-to-be outdated gaming rig.
>>
>>58147216
I'm using an external sound card for production, integrated soundcard for casual browsing
And yeah of course I'm not getting the latest models of things- my budget is restrictive and parts cost a lot more in Australia
>>
>>58146731
for 450 dollars that is fucking nuts, go for it

Hey guys, is it possible to replace the heatsink and its retarded metal case on this? The cooling is terrible and I'm trying to figure out if I can replace it with some other heatsink.

Its a dell 980 sff.

thanks guys

My wireless network adapter is a D-Link DWA-525.
It have some problems working with Windows 10. Is it time for a upgrade?
>>
What are some good budget cpu to pair with RX 480? I'm already on FX 8300 so going to i3 doesn't seem like much of an upgrade. Do you think I can just keep using 8300 without hurting 480's performance too much?

My poorfag friend asked me to build him a computer and I was thinking of getting this thing

http://www.ebay.es/itm/Flathead-Creek-Crb-Desktop-Computer-Intel-PC-i5-4670S-3-1GHz-6GB-DDR3-2x1TB-SATA-/112241772426?hash=item1a2221878a:g:4B8AAOSwo4pYLuZ4#viTabs_0

The budget is around 250 eurobucks so I was looking at all kinds of Dell and HP machines but they all come in small cases with (probably) terrible power supplies.
This has a CX500 in what looks to be a mid tower so he should be fine to add at least a 1050Ti or something at a later date.

Good idea or not?
>>
>>58148796
>250€
You won't get anything decent for that money.

Can anyone recommend a quiet and cheap LGA775 cooler? Going on a X4 620 running at stock speeds. I can't find anything that's not a cheap chunk of aluminum with a $.30 fan screwed on. I'll probably need something that comes with a back plate since I had to drill out the threads to mount the current cooler.

I just bought a Asus Z170-AR motherboard along with a bunch of new gear and I can't for the life of me figure out how to set the board to Legacy mode.

I've turned off everything with UEFI and it seems to install windows 7 in a Legacy configuration but then I can't get it to boot.

Send help
>>
>>58149078
How about you google it? It's not like 775 is some alien socket nobody ever made a cooler for.
>>
>>58149438
thanks for the recommendation

CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 Evo CPU Cooler looks decent

(First result in google)

OOS or ridiculously over priced.

Thanks for the recommendation

>spoon feeding illiterate retards
Not even tech illiterate, just illiterate in this case. People who can't use Google should not be allowed access to the internet.
>>
>>58149578
I can get it for $30 AUD from PC Case Gear. I can't speak for burgers though.

>calling me illiterate
>didn't even read my post

I asked for recommendations, not literally any cooler that will fit. If you can't recommend something, then don't. After I posted that, I returned to google to refine my search and found several options that may work. I only posted in case someone had a relevant opinion that I could take into advisement.

Besides, what's the point of this thread if it's not to ask for advice on components?
>>
Why have SSD and RAM prices gone up so high? Just simple supply and demand?
>>
>>58149660
I read your post and it's plain retardation.
>Besides, what's the point of this thread if it's not to ask for advice on components?
Helping people but certainly not spoon feeding the illiterate. To give you something to think:
>LGA 775
>X4 620
Have fun.

Dell uses Intel coolers on both AMD and Intel motherboards so they only have to stock one part.

Happy christmas, anon.
>>
>>58149738
Which requires a mounting bracket for the Intel cooler.
>>
>>58148899
Well obviously. I'm asking if buying one of those old corporate prebuilds is a good deal for an absolute poorfag on a tight budget.
>>
>>58149904
Depends on the usage. For office, sure, for gaming, if he plays more than very old games, some indies or LoL, no.
Refurb PCs are also always a gamble.

Updated list. Is everything here compatible?
Should I be looking at changing anything?

Total cost comes in at $1009
>>
>>58149981
Uh...
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JfzbRG

And what country are you in that it costs 1009 for all of that?

Bit expensive, even without the GPU.
>>
>>58150051
Shipping to Australia is expensive so our products (Especially fragile ones) are marked up a lot.
I might be able to find these parts cheaper somewhere else, I'm just using this website to get my list in order
>>
>>58149981
WAY too expensive. Get a cheaper case, SSD is good but PNY CS1311 or SanDisk Ultra II are good as well and cheaper. WD Red is completely overrated and overpriced.
Mobo.. get a cheaper one, and drop down to B150 if you don't need SLI. Since you won't OC, get the cheapest 2133/2400 RAM on the market, everything else is wasted.
PSU is bad, get the EVGA 500/600B like everyone else. Should save you money.
>>
>>58150118
Oh.
Well then, I can't help you man.
Jesus.
>>
>>58150118
PC Case Gear and MSY have the best prices for us you cunt.
>>
>>58150159
Thanks for the input.
I don't want to get worse components in the interest of saving money since my budget is ~$1000 anyway but if I can get better parts for the same price or less let me know
>>
>>58150260
Im a first time builder although I have a mate that gets warehouse prices so I might get some deals there
>>
>>58150274
Seriously man, take away my 1070 GTX and I had way better stuff than you did for the same price.
>>
>>58150295
Are you Australian though?
>>
>>58150311
Bloody Oath cunt
>>
>>58150261
Sure thins, but it's no point in forcing yourself to spend the money either. I'll make a build later, gotta go for now.
>>
>>58150342
So how are you getting better parts for cheaper? If we're from the same country it should be pretty much the same price
>>
>>58150374
eh
I take it back.
I was using the storage and PSU from an old build and that made up the difference.
>>
>>58150408
Would you recommend any changes to my build?
>>
Are the MSI 1070 Gaming, Gaming X, and Gaming Z the exact same card, only difference being changed clocks?
>>
Is $364 a good deal for the EVGA 1070 SC?
>>
>>58147028
....very helpful.
>>
>>58149959
But that one comes with a decent CPU and PSU, looks like you could slap a graphics card in that baby and call it a day.
