Not sure what private trackers are all about?

The mission of /ptg/ is to promote the highest possible standards of tracker service by providing members with opportunities for professional development, by recognizing technical competence through examinations and by advancing the interests of its members.

Several trackers explicitly forbid cross seeding in their rules. This sounds like more power tripping autism. I can't see how cross seeding would negatively affect a tracker

However, cross-seeding content only just releases their internal content that they don't want released (notably HDBits)

i pay less than one euro a month for 1tb of data and a 30MBps upstream
it's obviously no good as a long-term seedbox (if you want to seed long term then investing in internal drives and possibly a better fibre connection will be better cost effective than a seedbox)
my vps allows torrenting, as do a lot of others, so weird point if its just "you need to have basic tier googling skills or else theyll refund you"
invest time managing it? only if you want to use it as a proper vps
it takes all of 5 minutes to set up rutorrent/autodl irssi

youre just mad youre too technically incompetent to be able to manage linux and as a result have to overpay at least twice the going rate for the hardware because you need a "seedbox"

I have a 18TB NAS at home so I don't mind the space. I torrent stuff on my box then sync it down to my home connection, then delete the oldest shit on the NAS when I need more space (all automated, took one saturday to set up as a linux-noob)
I got 200GB buffer on PTP, 500GB on PTH, and 300GB on Apollo. Probably added around 40 torrents total, so you can tell it races really well
As to why pay for that; I make more than enough BP by seeding on my NAS, despite the fact that my home upload is terrible (130kBps max), so I don't need a permanent upstream netting me terabytes a month. I now have more buffer than I'll ever need for the rest of my life on the next WCD
I could purchase 2 instances and get double the bandwidth, or 3, or 4. I wager it would still be cheaper than your average seedbox

>Was paid to do it for a couple of years, but I'm glad we've finally arrived to the fact that VPS's are cool, because they're for 1337 h4x0rz.
you of all people should know, then, how usable a linux box is. The usability of a VPS is easily an order higher than that of a seedbox
Just paying for a VPN is... $7 for 1 month or $3.33/mo for an annual contract (PIA). Even at its cheapest, it's still 2-3 times more expensive than my VPS, which I can useon all my devices and on more sites (how many PIA IPs are banned from 4chan, for example)

>I wager it would still be cheaper than your average seedbox
It wouldn't simply because you'll never match the specs for the price even with your massive promotional discount. You can get 1-2TB boxes, powerful enough to run a swathe of services for €10-12. The stuff you linked is price inefficient on storage alone and gonna struggle with couple hundred torrents, let alone transcoding/streaming.
>The usability of a VPS is easily an order higher than that of a seedbox
They're the same fucking thing software wise. Literally every serious seedbox provider will give you root and abandon management duties if asked, effectively turning it into a VPS with a much better price per hardware. There's really nothing to discuss here, you're arguing while clearly unfamiliar with both seedbox and VPS markets. I'm glad you're satisfied with your setup and not trying to talk you out of it. But for an average user a seedbox is indeed a better seedbox than self-configured VPS.

a seedbox may outstrip a vps in terms of storage but thats not something i need
tell me why i need more than 100gb storage if i made about 1tb of buffer in about 10 days
again - not using it as a long-term seed space because thats inefficient, even if you use seedboxes
again - 100s of torrents? why would i need those? a more expensive seedbox wouldnt make sense for me, or anyone with a mediocre amount of local storage

i dont know how many seedbox providors are okay with you running loose with root access
something else i've done is buy a vanity domain (88 cents for a year) and am now using that on the box. can you do that with a seedbox?

>tell me why i need
I'm not going to tell you why you need anything, because as I've stated before I don't give a shit about your particular needs, wishes and rationalisations. 100GB is fine if all you do is ebooks and music. For HD movies/TV shows this is basically unusable, not to mention multiple trackers. Long-term seeding is absolutely viable on seedboxes, because having a anonymous box bulletproof from a legal standpoint downloading shit in a country with lax copyright standards is worth good money, while the actual monetary difference to a home NAS with a good connection is pretty minimal if you factor in the maintenance costs of invariably failing drives in a RAID and the fact that boxes use enterprise grade ones. The abundance and popularity of large boxes speaks for itself.

Really just stop this charade, first you argued VPS are actually cheaper than seedboxes, while a 5 min Google search proves the opposite. Now you somehow try to argue nobody needs those seedboxes, despite the high demand.

Also, I'm sorry, but

With vps/dedi you have complete control of your box, i mean take a look at what happens to feral, and also did you not grasp the gravity of a company solely dedicated to selling machines to pirate and not think, with your little brain, how that would attract attention?

This is your wet fantasies not supported by any evidence. Take a look at early snatching peers and witness dozens of seedboxes from well-known providers.
>atm I have 47 torrents loaded over 6 trackers, and it works just fine
That's fantastic if your average download size is under 2GB. BD remuxes are not quite the same though.
>never ever had a drive fail on me
And I hope you'll never have, though if you have some basic understanding of statistics, then you inevitably will, unless you're running your NAS as JBOD.
>i have so many millions of BP on PTP
How is that relevant in the least? You can have good ratio on any tracker without any VPS's and boxes. And PTP being one of the easiest to keep ratio is not really a indicator of anything.
>every person with *high* stats on any major site arent using pre-configured seedboxes
Again, curb your autism and look at the peers sometimes. Maybe use the tracker forums too.
>link me a 1TB bandwidth seedbox under €1/month

1. again, this is your "my product must be good because its popular" showing through. seedboxes are more accessible so of course they have more reach
2. i can mirror a full 50 gig BD to my NAS in just over an hour, so its not really an issue. how many BDs have i snatched over 3k combined snatches on ahd/ptp/btn/hdb? ~10
3. thanks, same. sure its likely, but again statistically the roi of hdd vs seedbox, considering dive failure, a nas is more sensible. 3 months' seedbox == 1 new hdd, and drives dont fail every 3 months
4. in that i dont need to RAID my drives for a mirror of my data - i can just snatch it all back with literally no problem

It is an issue if you want to seed several at a time. Even one would eat half of your storage.
>how many BDs have i snatched
Again, this is your "my use case is the only relevant one" showing through. I upload relatively frequently and every so often it's a BD and I need to seed remux and several rips at once plus all the other shit.
>the roi of hdd vs seedbox
Yes, but seeding at home on a shit connection is no fun. Paying for a faster connection would negate seedbox savings because all the telecoms are ironically infested by ultra-juice in here.
>in that i dont need to RAID my drives for a mirror of my data
Well so can I and anyone with enough buffer. It's still not relevant to VPS/seedbox debate in any way.
>most allow you a dedicated ip but youre not leasing the IP; you have no control over setting reverse dns
Wut. Do you actually understand how the DNS works? Set rDNS? Are you brain-damaged or trolling?

There are no seedboxes below $5, but VPS can't really compete with seedboxes above $5, considering you can get root on latter. So if you're fine with a smaller storage/RAM and weaker CPU, then VPS, if not go with box. Personally I don't really enjoy juggling shit around constantly and need to seed many larger files, so I go with latter.

even on a 3tb seedbox youre gonna have storage issues, then. i permanently seed all my downloads so 100gb or 100tb as soon as my box fills up im going to be downloading it anyway and seeing 24/7 from home. so it doesnt really matter
>Yes, but seeding at home on a shit connection is no fun. Paying for a faster connection would negate seedbox savings because all the telecoms are ironically infested by ultra-juice in here.
i use my internet for more things than seeding, though. id be happy to upgrade to fibre as soon as they roll it out up my street. in my town its an extra €5/mo to go from 10/1 to 50/50 mbit. just not in my half of town yet
>Well so can I and anyone with enough buffer. It's still not relevant to VPS/seedbox debate in any way.
it was my reasoning to not using RAID, which seemed to be one of your points. apologies if i misread
>Wut. Do you actually understand how the DNS works? Set rDNS? Are you brain-damaged or trolling?
im not talking about simply setting an A record to your ip, which anyone with a domain can do, but setting an rDNS (PTR) record specifically:
Make sure your PTR and A records match. For every IP address, there
should be a matching PTR record in the in-addr.arpa domain. If a
host is multi-homed, (more than one IP address) make sure that all IP
addresses have a corresponding PTR record (not just the first one).
Failure to have matching PTR and A records can cause loss of Internet
services similar to not being registered in the DNS at all. Also,
PTR records must point back to a valid A record, not a alias defined
by a CNAME.

my VPS solution works brilliantly for me and I pay SIGNIFICANTLY less than a seedbox

in addition to >>57910985; i'm off to bed. if you wish to continue the discussion further than "seedoxes are great for pump and dumping and will do wonders for your ratio if youre willing to pay the expense, but a cheap vps is far more practical as an all-purpose tool. in all cases, seeding from home has a greater roi than renting any hardware, fast internet or otherwise", I'm more than happy to find your response and reply when I get home from work (to save the NEET jokes - I'm a paid wageslave cuck, have aids, am black, yadda yadda)

the fuck is the point of this thread? just circlejerking? because there isn't even discussion going on just people being insecure about their tracker choice

The Bit torrents are CRAP u need to grab warez off of xdcc bot and fserve the IRC is good for that thing... also check out warez homepages and look thru guestbook for links to more homepages and visit top 100 warez homepages to find more.. i found the new limp bizkit on one easier to use than the bit torrents
