what's the best way to wipe a HDD?

I currently have an old PC with a 500gb HDD that I would like to put into my newer PC as a third storage drive, but it also has windows on it. I've backed up everything I want from it so i'm ok to wipe the whole thing.

Can I just put it straight into my new PC and wipe it on this (i'm worried it might have viruses on it though) or use some program to wipe (maybe from booting with USB drive?)

Replace sdX with whatever device your disk shows up as. You can use /dev/random or /dev/urandom if you want to use random bytes instead of just zeros, but zeros are close enough for government work and a whole lot faster.

Thats pretty much the plan. You will probably need to tell to the router to use the modem as a source of internet though.

I'm noticing in GPU-Z that the Bus Interface for my GTX 980 says "PCI-E 3.0 x16 @ 16 v1.1", but the card says it supports v3.0.

your mics being rated for "16KHz" is referring to their maximum response frequency
and the "44.1KHz" is referring to the DAC (sound hardware) sampling frequency

these do not need to match, in fact, it would make sense for them to match, a 44.1KHz sampling frequency can only capture signals up to 22.05KHz

basically, is 16KHz (real sound frequency) high enough to capture what you need it to (more than likely)?

I get a black screen after closing csgo or alt tabbing and I have to restart my computer with the button.

How fucked am I? Recently one of the two connectors that hold the laptop screen to the base of the machine "came away" so basically the screen is hanging on by one connector at this point. How can I download Twich On demand videos?

So I just assembled my first computer, but when I turn it on there is no display to the monitor. The front panel LED's turn on, the fans spin, the gpu even has an LED which turns on as well. The problem is there's no display when I plug in the monitor. I thought something was wrong with the monitor but when I plug it into a decade old pre-built, the monitor works fine so there's obviously something wrong with the new one I bought.

What is the most likely issue going on?

I have arch and windows in a dual boot and windows fails to update every time. When it restarts it just says that it "was unable to complete the update" and that it has to undo them.
I tried forcing the issue with the windows media creation tool, and it gave the message that it's "having trouble determining if my computer can run windows 10" which is a bit curious, considering it's running windows 10 as I speak.

these are my specs and my pc keeps overheating and shutting down when I play games, fifa most often. Its not a high end one but it should be able to handle that.

I'm brainstorming for a project. I want to connect a device(phone like iPhone or Android) to a tablet, but also have the port provide charging. Pic related.

My Desktop was randomly rebooting with no BSOD. Sometimes it wouldn't turn on after the reboot. So now it won't boot at all, no beeps, and he CPU fan, a 212 evo won't spin. Plugging the cooler on another fan connection makes it work but the PC won't turn on. The stock fan also won't spin. My HX 650's CPU 8 pin connector seems to work fine on an old PC, at least, making it beep and its cpu fan to spin. Having the CPU PSU cable plugged or not doesn't seem to make a difference, but the weirdest thing is how if I quickly turn my PSU off then on, the CPU's fan does spin, but still no boot nor beeping. Mobo is a gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 and CPU is a phenom II x4 960T. What can I do?

Well a few things
1. At least make sure the card gets power. Try a different video card if possible.
2. Make sure your motherboard supports the card, contact your manufacturer.
3. Update your BIOS to the latest version, if possible.
4. Card could be dead. Try returning and trying another one.

I'm trying to learn the basics of overclocking my CPU and GPU.

It's my understanding that you can increase the clock rate of your CPU without increasing the voltage, but this can cause instability. How/Why is it that you can increase the clock rate without increasing the voltage? Doesn't a higher clock rate (higher Hz) necessitate an increase in power consumption by default (higher voltage)? I might be missing something.

I'm also not entirely sure what the distinction is between my GPU Core Clock and Memory Clock. I can apparently overclock both, but I'm not too sure what the difference is.

The download button for the latest Flash player is a link to the adobe home page. I literally have no updated my Flash player in like a year because of this, but shit keeps freezing so I wanna update. How do?

How do I use greasemonkey/tampermonkey to change a webpage HTLM?

I copy pasted the webpage source code into a new script with the changes that I wanted to make and also specified the namespace url and the match url.

But it's not working...

the only flaw is that theres no way at all you will do any stable overclock
in fact i even disabled the autoboost clock just in case
also be careful with crappy VRMs wich some 970 motherboards have, or VRMs that require a top-down fun and will overheat if you have a sideways fan in your CPU

some people brag about huge OCs that make their PC crash after 10 mins of gaming
run at least 1 benchmark after each OC change to see if it crashes
and remember that making the vcore very high above default will drastically reduce the lifetime of the component

My computer wont boot windows it only says "repairing disk errors. This may take over an hour to complete" I let it do its thing for 14ish hours but no success. After some research I learned about the recovery drive and did that and it worked however I found out I never made a restore point. My question is, do I need to replace my HDD in order to get it working again or is there something else I can do?

I once had a Razer Deathadder 2013 that I RMA'd in the summer of 2015. They no longer made the Deathadder 2013, so I was shipped a Deathadder Chroma. Can I RMA this Deathadder Chroma? Or is it no longer covered under any kind of warranty?

so i bought some new parts for my machine during black friday. a new graphics card that installed and works fine, and another 8gb of memory. i also had a small overclock on my processor(like 100mhz or something, just barely moved the multiplier)to bring it from 4ghz to abou 4.1ghz.
for some reason, after i installed that extra 8gb of ram, when i booted up i got an error saying: overclock failed. it directed me to the bios where the OC was then disabled. i overclocked it so long ago that i honestly dont remember how i did it or if i even did it correctly.
im wondering why installing new RAM would cause this?

the audio driver for this laptop is driving me nuts
i went to the point that i tried even drivers for other versions of windows, and its always the same kind of error message

ive come to the point that im trying similar audio drivers for other laptops just to try
even tried SEVERAL driver autodetect utilities but none found anything about audio.

My computer has a strange issue. The computer will run fine until everything locks up. However it's not normal freezing. I can move my mouse around and I can even close/work programs. However I can't open any new ones and eventually the program that do work freeze until finally I can't use explorer.exe and have to restart. Could this be a hardware issue or is my windows 7 corrupted or something?
