I'm looking at a C library to support some LED chains with arduino.

In the header, there's a function declared with no parameters -
void Refresh(void);

But in the definition, it's
void HCWS2812::Refresh(byte RGBBuffer[][], byte length)
{
//Stuff using those parameters
}

Is this a thing you can do? Declare a function with no parameters and then define it to have parameters?

Even more perplexing, when the function is called in the example code for the library's use, Refresh is called with no given parameters. Just Object.Refresh();. The parameters it wants exist locally, but aren't passed in the call - why can the function use them? Aren't they out of scope?

I don't think it is a problem with my ISP since I can torrent files from other sites just fine.

This is the tracker in question on qbittorrent. It says "not working" and it is listed in the error category under trackers.

I'm building an ambilight system, and I need an optimized means to get an average colour for an area of the screen.

I wanna build a homelab for learning purposes because at work we are pretty much stuck technology wise.

I thought about using esxi to host the VMs. I want some kind of managmentserver that hosts a git repo, puppet or any other configmanagment software, and realtime and trendmonitoring for the other servers. Since I kinda wanna make use of the servers I want at least 1 backup server and 1 mediastreaming server, maybe one webserver so that I can fiddle around with tomcat a bit and a windows machine.

Any ideas what kind of hardware I need for that? Initially I thought about getting a hp microserver g8 because the formfactor is pretty neat but I would still have to throw a lot of money at it and it really limits me in terms of what hardware I can use (35W CPU, ECC unreg. RAM,...).

What do you guys think? Strong 4core CPU, 32?GB ram for futureproofing. What features are important for the cpu? I've read about passthrough stuff for virtualization does this matter for my lab?

It lists the i5-7200u above the i7-6200u, is that enough then really? I saw some other sites say in some areas the i7 outperformed it like here though
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-6500U-vs-Intel-7200U

Don't i7 models include a turbo boost mode that the i5's don't? Will it really make a difference?

It's not really good. Asus has a good reputation, and you should avoid hp (and hp ultrabooks at any cost).

I ordered a HP Microserver gen8 and two 8TB red pros from WD. I plan to have them in a raid1 config but the spec sheet for the Microserver (from 2012) says it only handles up to 4TB drives. So I guess I'll manage it under Linux hoping it can manage the larger drives based on AHCI information.

My question is which software raid manager should I be using? I will use Linux (probably debian), so:

mdadm + ext4? zraid with zfsonlinux? btrfs (is it time!?)

Any particular mount flags you recommend or is all the documentation good enough.

>>
>>57308792
btrfs raid1 is fine nowadays (ensure you use an up-to-date kernel + btrfs-progs)

it had more features than ext4. zfs is fine if you're using a fixed number of disks, the main disadvantage with zfs for home users is its inflexible vdevs (ex. if you have a two-disk raid1 vdev, you can't add a disk to make it a three-disk vdev)

>Is this a thing you can do? Declare a function with no parameters and then define it to have parameters?

Yes. The C linker only knows the symbol name, not the number or types of arguments. The C++ linker, however, knows the number of arguments. And, IIRC, their types.

void HCWS2812::Refresh(byte RGBBuffer[][], byte length)
{
//Stuff using those parameters
}

This is C++, not C. And the HCW2812:: will mangle the name so you won't link to this version.

So for a graphics card:
Its function is to display graphical images on to the output device.
What would its implementation be though? The same as its function?

The book I'm reading says the implementation is something that "obeys the architecture", but I'm not entirely sure what that means.

Disregard my precedent post, i got confused.
One of the synonims of implementation is realization.
The graphics card is designed to be displaying stuff, and a developed, built and working graphics card is the implementation of it's function: displaying stuff.
When you build a program, you plan your results: this program will do THING.
When you create a program that actually does THING, you have implemented the program.

Do you need to install another firmware/bootloader/fastboot to update to 6.0?
Do factory images provided by google include said firmware/bootloader and radio?
What exactly do backup images from clockwork recovery include?
If I mount it from the recovery on a linux computer, will everything mount as if it were an external usb drive? I can see why it doesn't work from windoes but on linux filesystems shouldn't be an issue I suppose.

I get the feeling that if raid5 and 6 are still buggered then there's a big refactoring coming and the requisite instability. This makes me lean towards zfsonlinux. One nice thing is that canonical has put this into ubuntu by default. Which also means they will be sued out of existance by oracle. But it should make configuring zfs a breeze. :)
>>
>>57310843
>3) Is it more reliable to use 2 expensive drives in RAID 1 or 3+ cheap drives in RAID 5 or some sort of RAID Z?

Either would require two disks to fail simultaneously to bring down the array, so the expensive drives in RAID 1 would be safer than cheap disks in RAID 5. RAID Z gives you better protection against bad writes corrupting everything but I don't know how that's born out in practice.
>>

zfs is very nice, provided you aren't snagged by one of it's limitations

1. Depends on the PSU. If you overextend the maximum load or wattage then your PSU will shut down.

2. Because form > function in webdev

>>57311031
>Either would require two disks to fail simultaneously to bring down the array, so the expensive drives in RAID 1 would be safer than cheap disks in RAID 5.

The issue is therefore time to rebuild. If the next drive fails before the system has been rebuilt, then you will lose data. Rebuilding across three drives should be quicker than across two. Also, there may be a spurious correlation between drive failures. e.g. if you have two drives with consecutive serial numbers, I would be worried the most since when one goes, I would expect (though I have no evidence) that the next one will fail within some amount of time.

If data loss is something you cannot deal with, then store data in your 2 or three drive nas and also keep a copy in a cloudy place using an object store where data loss is like 15 9's.

I have a memepad t520 and im using a logitech g600 with it, OS is w7 64, I preffer to rarely shut down my machine and instead put it to sleep. But whenever I wake it up the mouse does something a bit weird, it lights the side buttons a couple of times like if its restarting which I'd find normal if it also did it during boot which it doesn't. This looks to me like it's freaking a bit because it's also plugged on the yellow usb port thinkpads have which has power while on and sleep disabled through the bios. I've also had a couple of instances where I get BSODs if I happen to even touch the mouse while it's going to sleep and sometimes it wakes up if I move the mouse but I've set the mouse to not wake the computer from within windows.

Question is, I know there's a thing called power or energy states in windows for devices, s1 s2 s3 and so on, how can I make sure the mouse is recieveing absolutely no power when the computer is sleeping? Or alternatively, if anyone has a logitech g600 too can you tell me if it does a similar behaviour when sleeping-waking up? pic unrelated

My boot drive is an almost six year old 1TB WD Blue. Despite its age and usage (it has accumulated 40,000 hours of on-time, which is an average of 19 hours a day) it's still supposedly in good health. I also have a new (less than a year old) 2TB Seagate that I use for storage of media, games, etc.

I've been planning on getting a 240GB SSD for my boot drive and using my old 1TB drive for my games (minus my favorites which will go on the SSD), since if it does croak my games are the easiest thing to recover.

But I just noticed that it's a SATA II drive and I'm wondering if it would be a good choice to use for this purpose or if it would be worth it to buy a 480GB SSD (cheaper than buying a 240GB SSD and a SATA III 1TB HDD) for my games and do away with the 1TB drive completely. What would you guys do (assuming you gaymed)?

upside: it's actually 60 fields/s content, not 30fps as you're seeing on youtube

lots of "ghosting-like" artifacts owing to the fact it wasn't treated as interlaced content by youtube, but at least you can get rid of the combing and get most of the benefit of a higher framerate by deinterlacing

also, the motion quality being ass in general is also due to treating interlaced content as progressive, the combing is very high-frequency, and difficult to encode

This is my setup right now. It's mostly storage and plex. This one has a xeon 1240v2 but the standard one has a celeron g1610t which was more than enough for a storage only scenario.

I can get these fucking microservers for £120 minus after cash back which is cheaper than shitty 4 bay enclosures or NAS devices.

If say I end up having four of tuese little shitboxes how would I best sort out the networking side? They have dual 1gbit Ethernet and dedicated iLO port so would a 16 port switch with my broadband router hooked up to it be enough?

Also what would be the easiest way to work with four boxes during setting up? I have ubuntu server running on mine right now and I do work to it through webmin. Any alternatives for dealing with multiple boxes?

I have run into some sort of weird issue today. Would like to know what caused it and how to prevent it from happening in the future.

>Want to install Battlefield 1
>Shitty net so decided to go with installing trough the discs
>Don't have a DVD-player in my PC so I grab one I have laying around and hook it up
>Start PC normally, everything seems fine
>Insert disc
>the Windows window pops up asking me what I want to do with the disc
>Text suddenly seems blurry / fuzzy
>''Whatever it'll go away I guess''
>Hit ''autorun.exe''
>The Origin window comes up
>All the text in there is blurry too
>Install fails
>''OK.''
>Want to reinstall fresh so go to ''Control Panel'' to uninstall Origin
>All text is fuzzy / blurry but ONLY on the main screen
>After uninstalling I shut down PC
>Tick the power off
>Tick the power on
>Start PC again
>Insert disc
>Windows thing pops up again
>Text is fine and sharp
>Origin window comes
>Text is fine and sharp

Can someone explain me what happened and why it did?

Thanks in advance.

the rootkit you installed didn't support windows DPI scaling
>>

I see..
I wonder though why after restarting there suddenly was no problem with it anymore.
I also wonder why everything on only the main screen turned fuzzy, not just the installer window.
Also, I don't use any sort of special DPI setting, just standard.

Sorry for all my questions, legitemately just interested why exactly this happened and what I should check up on now to see if anything got fucked up in the process of it.

>>
>>57313090
You want four microservers? For the storage capacity or some kind of home lab thing you have in mind? If you want the storage capacity then just get an ATX case and fill it to the brim with disks. Or pick up nas device with more than 4 bays.

You won't be flinging data around your network at 1gbps since the disks only go up to ~120mbps streaming. Check it by logging in and using:

dd -if=/dev/zero -of=/whatever -bs=1MB -count=$((1024 * 1024))

So, you're way over speccing your network, imo.

>Also what would be the easiest way to work with four boxes during setting up?

Once you have ssh keys distributed, I would say pdsh is the easiest way. When you get things sorted out and wanto automate it then take a look at ansible.

What do you guys use your storage space for? I don't compulsively archive anime or movies (I watch and delete). Images and music don't take up much space. I struggle to use more than a couple hundred GB, but I have 4 TB of space available.
Is there something productive I can do with this excess space?

Does anyone know the reason why threads about Hiro's fake 4chan costs are getting deleted? Is that better off in /qa/?
>>
>>57313648
Well, a colleague I worked with a few years back said he worked on games in the 90s and one optimization he was fond of talking about was treating the middle of the screen in an fps as 0,0 and using 16bit floats as the points around the screen. Floats are more accurate around 0 (i.e. the part of the screen where the player is pointing their gun) and less accurate towards higher numbers (i.e. edges of the screen).

So maybe your friend on /v/ is talking about stuff like this? OR maybe the limited resolution of portable systems means the half float size isn't really a bad drawback when calculating stuff.

I struggle to find any decent 4 bay solutions for less than ~150 so I figured why not get full fledged machines for 120?

I don't necessarily want four, just said that because it seems cheaper than other 4 bay solutions. Plus usb3 solutions are shitty and NAS solutions are expensive.

Right now I have 4x4tb drives in raid10 and a backup solution and when I have the money I will most likely just buy another microserver with 4x4tb and use an LVM pool and mirror to the other server. That way I'll have 16tb usable which should do it.

Will getting quality rollups on fresh Win7 install make it harder to get rid of telemetry/win10 upgrade shit as opposed to installing updates as they come?

Try digging into regedit.
Even component services might work - that's how I completely disabled windows update out of fear of it automatically installing win10. (stopped it, set the recovery options to do nothing, and ensured it wouldn't be able to turn on)

The convenience rollup includes unremovable telemetry updates. The monthly rollups don't include any announced telemetry, but from october on there's nothing but rollups.

It's still cheaper to buy 2x4tb than 1x8tb and the cheapest 8tb is the Seagate archive range which I'd rather stay away from.

A collection of multiple updates. Microsoft released a big one with like 5 years worth of updates called the convenience update several months ago. Then they started releasing cumulative monthly mini rollups that would install everything released since then. Now they don't offer individual KB updates at all, just the rollups from here on out.

What's a program (W10) I can use to remove duplicate images
>>
>>57314357
They don't need to track you that way. Ad agencies all work together so they can track you from one page to the next, or you have some big giant who puts their ad everywhere (google).

Also facebook tracks wherever you go. All those facebook like buttons on various sites are also trackers. They are probably the most dangerous aside from google since they link your real identity with your web traffic. Make sure to use Fanboy's Social Blocking List
>>
>>57314720
different anon here, i also want to know this
better yet, a file to use to remove duplicate files as a whole (not just detecting filenames ofc)
>>
>>57314720
If you have bash tools installed, you can do something like:

md5sum * | sort | uniq -c | grep -v '^1 '

This takes the md5sum of all the files and then sorts the results. Uniq then smangs duplicate results together and the '-c' option gives you a count on how many of each line were found. Finally 'grep -v' filters out the counts that only had a single file. This should leave all the files with duplicates. You may have to run it twice though. Once to get the offending md5sums and then another time to find the corresponding files to each md5sum.

As always with deleting files, don't automate the actual deletion unless you're very confident. And don't copy paste code from the internet.

I've started to have hard crashes in videogames recently. The screen will often turn blue. Sometimes the game still appears to work on the background, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the audio starts looping, sometimes it doesn't.

I suspect it's because of my fairly old graphics card (gtx 570). I want to rollback to older drivers because 1 year ago, it was still working fine. Anyone knows the last good drivers for the gtx 500 series? Anyone has another idea what might be the problem?

Got my hands on a new Android tablet, and one thing it did was say google can observe what's on my screen and "help" me find answers to it.

man i'm really not ok with this btw. I just searched on ddg (cause i'm paranoid) "google android tap help disable" cause I think holding tap brought up the help thing, and first link is how to disable "Google Now". No mention of Google seeing what's on your screen, then trying to help from that.

It happened from a really innocent gesture too, like holding a finger on the screen for a second. Not impressed. Worst case scenario I format the tablet just to do it again and see what that was, how it's activated, and whether or not I can disable it. My last tablet never had this shite...
