Well any provider can get into your box, I'm sorry to say. They can get in. So can whoever owns the server eg Kimsufi or Hertzner. Basically, most seedbox providers are reselling server space at a marked up price and all the fools who buy from these providers are paying a premium to have their hands held and giving their credentials to two different companies.

Reddit because it's almost exactly the same way as you worded your question there. People have a habit of repeating of repeating themselves, both on reddit and tumblr so it can become easy to recognise 4chan users by their posting style. But don't worry mate, it's a legitimate question nonethenless and board culture is not cared about much here. Also there are no stupid questions.

There are a variety of ways that a seedbox provider to control users. The most common way I believe is just to give them seperate logins for the one IP and hostname (shared/slot hosting). You don't get root access. A step up from that would be getting a VPS which is your own server with a unique IP which you can install whatever you want on but you are sharing a hard disk with someone. OpenVZ and KVM which you can read about. Generally KVM is considered more secure but your provider can get in anyway otherwise you'd be fucked every time you needed to contact support.

The ultimate server is a dedi (dedicated). It's your own server, hard disk, CPU, ram etc to itself. But your provider can still get in because what if you need technical support or the disk needs to get replaced.

Providers won't usually peek unless they think you're doing something funky eg someone DMCA'd them.
