What office do you use?
Why?
Ive been using Libre for years and love the hell out of it but it's been crashing lately and scaring me with this recovery bullshit. At one time it recovered my book and fucked it over. Basically my entire work went up in flames. Luckily, I had a backup but it was so far back that I had to try and recreate 1/2 of it. I got the prev installer/update (still fucking downloading "Computing Space Requirements" been doing this for almost 15 minutes I think) and I got Open office. It's basically doing the same thing. Why do these take so damn long to install? Then again, I am on an 8 year old PC that's a pieace of shit.
What does /g/ think?
I'm gonna give Calligra a try but honestly it feels like all office software just sucks
>>55236434
Fuck office applications, they are just dumbed down versions of other applications
Use a proper document preparation system like LaTeX instead of word
Use a proper data processing program like r instead of excel

Who's had a screw-up while trying to install a new processor before here?
I just bought intel
>>55236344
I apparently tightened the cooler a bit too much when building my new machine a couple of months back and two of the RAM slots refused to work as a result. A few turns the other way on both screws fixed it.
>>55236344
I bent the motherboard socket pins when installing cpu, don't know exactly how that happened. Tried straightening them with tweezers but broke them off. fugg
I'm a fucking idiot. I was playing with a psu fan and reversed polarity when connecting it by accident. Immediate smoke and burnt smell, it was connected like that for not even a single second though.
It was some adda fan thats absolutely unavailable, at least where i live. Is there some way of fixing it ? I guess these integrated fans dont come with polarity protection, it doesnt spin at all when i connect it correctly. Its probably done for.
Thanks

Could it be two never seen before products ?
Why would anyone actually want to own one of these now? Is it a meme or something?
I had one for school when I was younger, but I've moved on since then.

I just spent the last 2 weeks installing Arch Linux. I'm not even fucking joking. The install process is just the most convoluted and confusing fucking procedure ever. I followed the beginner's guide many times. It wouldn't be a problem if the fucking guide actually explained to me in plain English WHAT THE FUCK the commands even. Then maybe I wouldn't have made so many typos due to mindlessly copying commands straight from the page.
It wasn't even the typos that set me back the most, it was that it kept asking me fucking edit files. How the fuck am I supposed to edit files when I'm on a fucking command line? There is no Word or notepad ++ to open to edit the files.
It asked me to edit sources.list and after spending around a fucking hour trying to figure out how to even get to the file without a fucking mouse cursor and I couldn't figure out how to edit it. You can't do that shit from the command line.
I used the famed 'pacman' (who the fuck names a command after an ancient video game?) to install note pad ++ but all it gave me was errors.
Anyone who uses this awful command line bullshit is a fucking time wasting retard. Use a real OS for fuck's sake.

>uncoherent shitposting
Beginners guide is spell checked.
It is in the most simple English you can get to install the OS without a problem.
It tells you about the existence of both Vi and Nano (Terminal text editors available on the live cd and base distribution).
Also Notepad++ is not available for linux.
-10 /10 would not take the bait.
>>55235803
try installing gentoo next time
Install gentoo.
Why does this board worship HoboOS?
>no way to theme without deep system modification
>no consistent method for installing software
>point-click program installation? lol no
>glorified server os
>only pro is that it isn't BSD
Literally fuck everything about GNU/Linux. The only difference between Linux and macOS is that macOS is actually usable.

debian based distros have plenty of gui tools to install with apt. deb files can be downloaded and you can literally double click them.
>only pro is that it isn't BSD

it's a meme
Anyone else here that just doesn't feel the consumerism as much as they used to a few years back? Processing tech doesn't interest me since at most you get 10% more performance and 10% less power draw, same form factor, same everything. SSDs are the same as they were 4 years ago, just twice as affordable, but its not like anyone needs a 1TB SSD.
Like I used to change phones every 4-5 months from shitty low-end models (not because I'm a reviewer, just the thrill I guess), to flagships of this year and the years before, trying out different stuff, reselling once I'm done with it, iphones, windows phones, macbooks, windows walmart crap, high-end business elitebooks/thinkpads/latitudes, and now it seems like there's really no point and its such a huge time waster.
Now I'm happy with pic related for almost a year now and a refurb 8460p HP sandy bridge 8gb/128gb ssd I paid $250 for altogether and I just can't be fucking bothered to fuck with this shit and try to fake hype or participate in threads.
Why the fuck do people pride themselves in consumerism
>>55235703
did you not watch fight club?
>>55235630
it was more exciting when each year brought noticeable performance increases. Though I'm thinking more of desktops in the 90s and 2000s.
now here I am typing this on the Nehalem system I built in 2009.
Or better yet. A new web language. One that is totally new and doesn't use html at all! :O how cool would that be?

So guys, whats the laptop with the longest battery life that can run linux?
Will post memes until i get answers
macbook pro
now go away.
Fujitsu Lifebook S936 when configured with 2 batteries.
That or maybe Thinkpad X260, but I think they gimped the battery in the latest versions for the sake of thinness.
