Once you account for what Phoenix Squadron has, the rebel alliance isn't really that big. Sato's transports, blockade runners, hammerheads, and carrier, probably make up a third of the forces gathered.

I mean, it'd be the smaller third given the Nebulon B's are the biggest ships there and more than double a blockade runners length and tonnage, but it still means there probably aren't a bunch of other rebel ships out there outside of maybe a few transports and fighters.

They were caught between a war of two races of droids in another galaxy. They got super pissed and used ultra force powers to wreck all the droids, and then they enslaved their galaxy. Then their homeplanet, which was alive and infused with the force, felt guilty about all that and an heroed. Its seed went to the Star Wars galaxy, and Vong went in the same direction for reasons I don't remember. In the process the Vong were stripped of the Force and became still bigger douchebags. They then arrived in STAR WARS, cut off from the force and kicked ass til they were forced to be part o the Force again. Their whole problem was they were so far into the dark side past what the Sith ever did they were basically forced out of the Force altogether, and became super angry about it

If you were to put them in new canon I think they'd technically be a faction of zombies and the undead, since they'd be empty of the Living Force. Or slightly less silly they would all be Force Vampires, only able to survive by consuming the Living Force their bodies cannot generate. Kinda neat, actually, but only for a short story arc.

In all honesty you aren't wrong. KOTOR was cool in it's day but a lot of it's appeal comes from growing up with it and being new to the EU. If you're an adult well familiar with Star Wars it doesn't really have the same appeal since almost every party member is just a rote cliche and it's designs aren't that great in terms of worlds or ships.

I'd say KOTOR 2 is better, if only because it cops to being what's essentially an essay on what Star Wars "is".

KOTOR's gameplay is just a rehashed d20 with all of d20's glaring flaws, a system with no prestige classes and being forced to double class, and forcing the player to jump through a lot of hoops for simple shit.

The worst part of both games has always been that you simply can not build a good character without screwing yourself at some point. d20 jedi classes are always based on the presumption that your Jedi will always have a lightsaber instead of getting it eight to ten levels in, and that you will always have a living person there to balance it out because the system is notorious for terrible min maxing.

You need to go through the entire first planet of the first game to get a lightsaber and it takes at least three in the second. If you try to invest in vibroblades for the literal hours of gameplay where you aren't allowed your primary weapon it turns out those skills have almost no transfer so you either have to play as a shitty swordsman for like a third of the game, be super careful about what you invest in in a way new players simply aren't on their first playthrough, or invest in guns, which is only good in the second and only good because of the fact that d20 invariably rewards excessive minmaxing, which you can't even take to it's extreme because you can't have a party member act as your face and thus need to invest in what's usually the worst stat in every other d20 game.

I mean lets assume you're a first time player who's never played a tabletop game going into KOTOR. You want to be a jedi but they won't let you, and you want to go through everything on Taris so you get up to about level nine. You devote a couple of levels to your melee weapon because it's legitimately the closest you have to a lightsaber. You stick another one in power attack. You figure blasters may be important to you stick a couple of levels of stuff into your blaster skill to upgrade power shot and specialize in pistols.

Then you get to Dantooine and build your lightsaber. Suddenly your melee shit doesn't transfer at all except power attack. You grab force push because it's a cool power you remember from the movies, but it's not that great. But then a few levels later it upgrades to force wave and your guns do become essentially useless because you now can knockdown and damage every single enemy in a room at once. So that's your other two feats wasted.

Of all the stuff you had before level 10, only Power Attack is still relevant.

KOTOR 1 has a hard cap at 20 so by that point you've effectively wasted almost half the levels you're allowed to have.

No, that's shit unique to d20 specifically. There are hundreds of other systems but Wizards of the Coast are the ones who actually owned the license. Even then, most of the really good shit from the games simply doesn't appear like space combat or prestige classes.

I mean there's a reason even WOTC abandoned the system almost immediately by making the SAGA edition, which had classes that were ACTUALLY equipped to do the things KOTOR wanted like having Jedi Knight separated from the jedi base class so you could actually integrate your shit and having skills increment by five instead of having pools to draw from.

The rebel fleet has never been massive, though. Even in ROTJ, at it's peak, the fleet isn't that much larger than what we see in Rogue One, which itself isn't much bigger than what we just saw in Rebels.

Except the d20 system has always had some very legitimate problems and the way that Bioware and Obsidian executed that system had even more problems on top of it, though Obsidian was better about it overall.

Again, there's a REASON that it's creators scrapped the entire thing on their own and rebuilt it as SAGA almost from the ground up. It just plain does every single thing KOTOR wanted to do but actually accounts for it in it's base system or within the very first splatbook. Alright. Then lets assume the player specializes in literally any weapon you use for the first six hours of the game. Within the next six hours all of those feats are entirely wasted because your playstyle will invariably change because the Lightsaber is just a straight better sword and the force is just a straight better ranged attack.

Those generalized descriptions were me trying to be charitable to KOTOR. The game itself saddles you with blasters and vibroblades with no indication you'll ever use anything else and then effectively penalizes you for it after the fact, and then fucks you twice with a hard cap that was taken out in KOTOR 2 specifically because d20 was never meant to ACTUALLY hard cap at 20 and if you're going to make people improvise for the beginning that essentially becomes a penalty.

Except one of the D20 system's biggest flaw is proposing specialization options (like feats) for players that may sound good but are really crappy choices that will cripple your build in the long run. Add to that a strong tendency from within the system to encourage overspeccing, and KOTOR1 forcing you down a non-jedi class for a while and it's very, very easy to end up with a shit build.

If you wanted to do a "KOTOR style" game where someone spends a few levels as something else and "becomes" a Jedi you can just have them be a Soldier or Scoundrel and then have them take Jedi Knight once they hit level 7. At least in theory, you SHOULD be able to multiclass like that without taking super penalties since Saga is built less around the idea of insane minmaxing and more on just taking a combination of things. This invariably backfires since the "ideal" Saga build is essentially just a mishmash of shit but it plays better into what Bioware was trying to do and the direction they've been going since then.

Not to mention skills, since post level 1 most of your skills are essentially just feats and feats come much more easily so instead of fiddling with arbitrary thresholds and point totals you just tick off a box and it's effectively sorted. Though ideally it'd be a set threshold instead of random rolls for most skills since just sitting there because you failed a roll does nothing but waste five seconds most of the time.

Force wave auto damages, auto knock backs, and stuns every single enemy caught in range. Blasters will target one guy for flat damage. You can claim blasters have the range advantage but outside Dantooine most of your fights are in enclosed corridors so it's a non issue

It's the same shit in 2. You can literally just spam force wave through most of the academy and the enemies won't be able to do shit to stop you, even if you didn't take Consular. It'll even get enemies in the next room in some cases.

He was in love with Padme and felt bad about it because everyone told him to not form attachments.

And later Windu wants to strike down Palpatine despite that being against the way of the Jedi.
