Welcome back Anons! Last time, we got some backstory on Ghost. Today, the Thunderbolts get involved with magic!
The only thing that ever happens in Marvel Florida is Man-Thing related stuff, as I understand.
Bumping for Gentleman-Thing and his waifu.
... I guess they weren't happy about what happened to Frog.
>>90389657
So are they aliens?
>>90389636
This is basically "the Man-Thing issue".
>>90389679
They're probably from alternate realities, since it's Man-Thing, but your guess is as good as mine.
Shit, if he got Man-Thing and lived to talk about it, he's got better luck than most.
>>90389734
Honestly, they should have brought Moonstone with them, would have made this way easier.
So does Man-Thing's touch recognize the difference between being startled and fear? Like, if I freak because a giant moss-man rose out from the depths in front of me, would he try to burn me?
If you haven't read Man-Thing either, this woman is Jenifer Kale. We saw her get killed in the end of Bendis's New Avengers, because there's nothing Bendis enjoys more than killing characters he doesn't know.
Kale's most frequent role was in the Man-Thing books, so she probably has strong opinions on him being the Thunderbolt's bus.
>>90389825
And Bendus tends to do it in super meanspirited ways, too.
>>90389765
I'd love to see that being explained.
"Wait, so are we taking Moonstone as a guard?"
"No, Man-Thing's got a thing for her, so she pacifies him."
>>90389580
Man-Thing/Art Adams is a match made in heaven.
So, is "in the bag" adequate storage for shotgun shells, /k/?
>>90389858
Maybe it's because I'm a bad person, but given the glee with which Bendis kills off "unpopular" characters, I want someone to kill Kitty Pryde. I mean actually kill her, not just shoot her in a bullet to nowhere.
>>90389926
I agree with this comment
Holy crap, one of the civilans actually managed to kill a monster.
>>90389926
>>90389937
I approve of this idea. Add Jessica to the list.
>"Galik is dead? Then I am yours!"
>"Until you die."
Well, at least they know what they're getting into.
Holy SHIT, Man-Thing!
>>90390011
Damn, King Kong'd.
Is there a name for that head thing Kale's wearing here? She, Wanda, and Polaris all wear a similiar one.
>>90389937
That I'm a bad person, or that someone should kill off Bendis's favorite characters and see how he likes it?
>>90390083
Tiara?
God damn, Man-Thing.
>>90389825
>>90389858
>>90389926
>>90389937
>>90389968
Shut the fuck up, bitches. None of you will ever become big enough comic book writers to even TOUCH my faves.
>"Now I'm seeing why he was so sweet on Moonstone."
Looks like Man-Thing has a type, Anons.
>>90390105
That would be fucking awesome, none of this back in a year shit either. Least 3 fucking years of no kitty, fuck Bendis.
I can't even make a "put your guns down" joke, because those fishermen took out an alien with a shotgun.
>>90390163
Something about Melissa being relieved about the girl is adorable. And true to character.
>>90390112
Luke Cage's thing has been called a tiara, and it didn't look anything like what they wear.
You thought the teamwork theme would be done after last night? Nope, even Man-Thing likes being with the Thunderbolts.
>"I just wonder how long before the Nexus grows a new defender."
I can already see "All-New All-Different Man-Thing" on shelves. It still doesn't sell.
>>90390228
Visor?
Speaking of headwear; what is that thing called that is usually on the heads of Hercules (marvel), Artemis (DC), and every fucking 1990s Liefield character?
>>90390105
Killing one of his pets would be worth it
>>90390083
Face frame?
Remember when Strange lost his position of Sorcerer Supreme for the... let's say, 4th time, and decided to cosplay as Constantine this time?
Now we're going full magic weirdness.
>>90390228
Tiara's still a general term. I dunno if there is one more specific for "headpiece that frames the face and covers nothing else"
>>90390307
>Speaking of headwear; what is that thing called that is usually on the heads of Hercules (marvel), Artemis (DC), and every fucking 1990s Liefield character?
A Head Guard.
So has Hellstrom still not had any major appearances since his guest appearances in New Avengers?
>>90390327
One thing I really like about the art is Parkerbolts is the paneling. So simple, yet so effective.
>>90390403
He was briefly in Leth's Hellcat and last year's PMIF's christmas special.
>"I want to try MY ride."
The Thunderbolts have the BEST ride.
I don't QUITE know why Fixer's got a bug up his butt about Melissa being the leader. She lead the team once before, after all.
>that Juggernaught smile
>"Luke, his role of walking the borders between worlds, he stands at the intersection of magic and science, he is the..."
>"Yeah, he's my dawg."
Luke Cage likes to keep things simple.
>>90390486
To be fair though Fixer wasn't on the team when it was her and MACH as leaders. And the other time his boyfriend was co-leading the team.
>>90390445
Christ, how did I forget the best Christmas issue Marvel released that year?
And of course, the women's wing continues to house the filthiest mouths this side of /d/.
>>90390263
>almost exactly what happend to swamp thing.....
Luke, you used to go on about how you were three hundred pounds, this may actually work.
>>90390636
I noticed that too. Wasn't Man-Thing made first?
>"At this point, a team of sherpas and yaks would tie to the ring to pull the door open..."
>just make Luke Cage do it himself
>>90390589
True, but at this point she's been on the team longer than everyone else.
>>90390636
>>90390666
And yet, they were released only two months apart.
>>90390666
By a couple of months, yes.
As greetings go, a fireball is SHOWY, but not exactly friendly.
>"You know what I like? When we just walk down through the cells and point at someone to join."
You got too used to leading the Avengers, Luke. Sometimes, people don't WANT to join.
>>90390748
>>90390792
Oh boy, we have a DoomPatrol/X-men situation stewing :D
>>90390612
Wait, didn't that kid hack down a tree in one axe swing? She could shank somebody with that crayon. Who let her have it?
Despite being an interesting concept, I don't believe any other book plays with this premise, before or since.
Least of all the Doctor Strange books I've been reading.
This was basically what Genis-Vell did during New Thunderbolts, except there wasn't anybody punching to interrupt his mojo.
>>90390748
Good job with a limited dialogue page, makes it seem very dynamic
Bendis, are you still here? What the hell was with your fascination with The Hood?
I know we're probably supposed to find them hot, but I can't stop looking at that one woman with the claws.
>>90390748
Interesting timing. I think I had the first manthing back in the late 70's i think, I tore the shit out of it though, bought it in a 7-11.
>>90389580
My nigga Swamp Thing.
>>90390865
Except neither of the has the vastly superior popularity that situation has. Man-Thing and Swamp Thing are both relatively obscure characters that had amazing, character defining runs decades ago.
>"Stephen? You just made my life harder, didn't you?"
Oh, more than you can possibly guess, Luke.
>>90390868
Unlike the others in the wing, they don't see her as much of a threat to others, unless someone targets her. It comes up frequently that the only reason she's THERE is because they don't know where else she can go.
>>90391001
Close, but wrong company, Anon.
>>90391046
BITCHES
LOVE
MAN-THING
>>90391009
I think Swamp Thing has more good runs and had more merchandise back in the 80's, but yeah, I doubt fans of either character care.
Spoilers: Only one of the characters listed here actually appears in this issue.
>>90390933
"Go along with this"
>takes off pants
Of course you're expendable, Ghost. You're all superpowered criminals.
>Mandrill actually tries to use his powers on Songbird
>"Blizzard? He really thinks he's going to make the cut?"
I actually had to double check to make sure, but that is indeed the same Blizzard who ran with the New Thunderbolts. Granted, neither of the three would know that.
I love how Luke just takes it for granted that Ghost is bugging his phone.
>>90391129
I'm more well read on Swamp Thing than Man-Thing, but there's a lot of Swamp Thing runs I like. Hell, my favorite post-Moore run was the Collins run, and I NEVER see anyone mention that.
>>90391203
>You waaant me on this teammmm...
Thats fucking adorable.
So Anons, did you know there's a version of this page without text boxes?
Luckily for you, I have it.
Luke clearly has no tolerance for PDA.
>>90391313
Nancy A. Collins? Yeah, that's a good one. Shame even BKV's horrible run gets talked about more often than hers.
>>90389902
Depends on where the bag is and what you plan to do, If you're cruising the bayou I assume it's like the rivers and streams down here in aus where you're better off keeping a loaded firearm handy.
>>90391371
They have exactly the same body type
>Shocker
If you're a fan of Superior Foes, you're going to want to pay extra special attention from now on, because Spencer references stuff from now on.
>>90391318
It's less adorable when you remember what he usually does when he gets people under his control.
>>90391371
Not now boner, NOT NOW!
>>90391452
Superior Foes of Spider-Man was full of continuity porn from both Thunderbolts and the two Deadly Foes of Spider-Man minis from the early 90s.
>>90391410
That series was my first introduction to BKV. Since I admit to holding grudges against characters/writers, I've never "quite" been able to enjoy anything else he's written after that.
Just when I thought the Millar run wasn't good Swamp Thing, someone took that as a challenge.
>they can casually cut into Juggernaught
Weakened or not, that's bad news for everyone.
I don't know why, but all of a sudden I want to start reading Hellboy again.Yes, I know these uniforms are pre-Nazi, not the point.
I like to think that Abe still doesn't like Spider-Man.
>>90391484
Everybody who reads comics thinks they would be Charles Fucking Xavier if they had mind control, when in reality they would all be fucking fucking perverts screwing their way through society.
If you've seen Agents of SHIELD, you may remember this guy. If not... you'll remember pretty quickly.
>>90391519
Pride of Baghdad is the one thing from him I liked all the way through. Y and Ex Machina both had a lot of potential, but the latter parts... especially Ex Machina's ending, hooooooly shit was I mad.
God damn it Satana!
Yeah, Hyde doesn't get Banner's super-stretchy pants.
Last issue for today, Anons!
>Troll IMMEDIATELY goes to save Melissa
>>90391647
So what you're saying is... they'd be what modern Marvel tells us Xavier is?
>>90391519
>Ghost disabling his audio. Deadpool once used a sonic atack on him.
I always like it when characters show that they have learned from past fights.
>>90391683
I don't pretend to be especially well read when it comes to comics, hence why, more often than not, I stick to capes. Plus side, since I haven't read much, the good tends to outweigh the bad.
... Huh, looks like she was on the up and up this time.
>>90391683
Was it the "fuck you for thinking you were reading a different kind of book" type of ending it had?
>Boomerang talks shit
>Troll lifts the axe he couldn't, with one hand
I know she's an Asgardian, but that has GOT to feel like a kick to the nuts.
>>90391137
It's a pity, Sandman would have made a good addition to the Thunderbolts
>>90391846
I honestly do not care about the Big Two much these days, so I've been branching out a lot for these last few years.
Yeah, Karla is enjoying the chance to screw with Ghost.
>>90391110
What the hell is a Skrull doing here? I thought Osborn had them all shipped off to a Guantanamo-Bay style facility.
>>90391892
Partly, but it was the fact thatthe main fucking plot that was driving the book was left completely unresolved... because!Oh, and Vaughan's trademark gratuitous deaths didn't help either, of course.
>>90391919
He really would have fit right in. His return to villainy was done in an insultingly stupid way.
Aw, he looks so happy...
>>90391920
I only got into comics fairly recently, meaning there's still decades of good stuff I can read. As I've mentioned a few times over the course of these threads, I've got a MASSIVE backlog to go through.
Can you guess what the deal with this thing is yet?
>>90391242
Wait, that's the SUPER-SKRULL? Kl'rt? How the fuck are they keeping him contained here just walking around? He's one of the most powerful villains there is, he could just fly off and laugh at everyone.
Not sure how he even ended up here, but I guess he escaped off-screen in time for Infinity and becoming Emperor.
>>90391919
>>90391963
I think it's because he'd be pretty OP considering the rest of them. Besides, we're already getting TWO Spider-Man villains on the team.
>"Give it back! Without it I'm ordinary..."
More importantly, without it you're back in a coma.
>>90389621
Well, until Scott Lang followed his ex-wife to Miami.
>>90391963
Yeah, Byrne just went "he was evil all along, totally lied about reforming". All because Byrne couldn't get over the fact that he was once said to be in the FBI's most wanted list, which according to him is just composed of murderers and terrorists (which wasn't the case in the 60s).
At least a later writer revealed that what actually happened is that the Wizard brainwashed him into thinking his reformation was fake and becoming evil again.
>>90390403
>>90390445
He was a minor supporting character in Aaron's Doctor Strange too
>>90392036
The wiki says it is, but I don't even know when they could've locked him up.
Looks like Luke's the only one who's free.
>>90391617
What are Shocker and Boomerang even doing in the Raft? They don't have any super-powers.
>>90392002
I've been reading comics since I can read thanks to my dad, so I've had kind of an unfair advantage.
Although it doesn't look like Luke's in a good mood after what he saw.
>>90391166
The whole needing a lure for good behavior team is a good reason but lets be honest, The Prime Thunderbolts team is made up of nigh unkillable people so their chance for failure that ends up with them dead is going to be rare.
Between Songbird's power creep that is going to happen until she is mind controlling people, Juggs is still going strong until he gets on new excalibur, Moonstone only gets stronger from here on out, Cage is Cage and who can even fuck with Ghost? From the way stark talked about it, hierarchy of intelligence in the universe places him at third, just under people like Pym and Stark so really.
>>90391452
>I'm the lat Blood Brother
The other Blood Brother somehow returned with no explanation in Standoff.
And now he pissed off the Juggernaught. This won't bite him in the ass at ALL.
And here you go, Anons, the new Thunderbolts.
>>90391662
Why the fuck does Mr. Hyde get extra detail but not the Super-Skrull? The Blood Brother is probably stronger than Hyde too, he was one of Thanos' minions and gave Drax a hard time.
>>90392088
I won't lie, I completely forgot about his Ant-Man book after Secret Wars.
>>90392234
I've always liked Herman's look with the T-Bolts symbol.
I don't like Satana's smile when she sees she's dealing with zombies...
>>90392234
I believe this is the first time Mr. Hyde has worn that hat and attire. Looks nice.
>>90392238
And that was the first Drax, who was probably the strongest of the three incarnations we see!
>>90389714
So I guess these guys aren't willing to just take Franklin Richards' word that Man-Thing is a cool guy once you get to know him.
And that's it for today, Anons. Will someone save the team asshole? What will happen to Juggernaught? Will someone mock the Shocker?
See the answers to these questions and more, as we go through the tie-ins to Fear Itself next time!
>>90389926
I too, would be okay with Perma-death for Kitty and Jessica Drew.
>>90392360
No one should mock the Shocker, Anon
>>90392332
>The largest graveyard in the world
I don't know if that's the case in the real world, but it probably shouldn't be the case in the MU given all the shit that goes down there, with entire cities being casually wiped out often.
Fuck, Genosha off the top of my head.
>>90392360
Thanks as always, fampai.
>>90390163
>Looks like Man-Thing has a type, Anons.
Ted Sallis' pre-Man-Thing love interest got retconned into being Mockingbird, too.
The Gentleman-Thing Prefers Blondes.
>>90392360
>Fear Itself
That remains the most autistic wikipedia page related to comics that I have ever seen
>>90392459
What's wrong with it?
S A T A N A TIME???
>>90392470
Take a look at the reviews section. That place is longer than most other articles
>>90393455
>Fear Itself
the review section is longer than anything else on the page. that's kind of funny, I feel like wookieepedia/Alphabeta boys got ahold of this page. It feels like their brand of austimally adding everything possible to a wiki page.
>>90391846
My wife
>>90389789
It varies, but an important distinction must be made, Man-Thing does not just react to fear on a chemical level, it loathes fear and will kill you to make you stop being afraid in front of it.
Which is why making it the team bus of a gaggle of recovering Supervillains is one of the worst ideas ever.
>>90395078
not necessarily, the parkerbolts were fine with man-thing since majority of them are nigh unkillable anyway. It's not exactly like he was running around with street level villains.
>>90390868
Wrong question, the correct question is who's willing to take it from her?
>>90391313
>>90391340
Satana is cool. What are her other books?
>>90395821
Super slutty and disinterested. Both show up in her team up with deadpool
>>90391617
Their relationship is complex. Every single Thunderbolt had this moment when they realized they could actually BE a hero. Even Karla.
MACH I's involved Spider-Man.
Man this book is cool.
>>90395821
She was probably in Hellstorm's early books.
>>90390352
>From the pages of The New Avengers
That's a bit of an oh boy cover blurb. 'Course, I trust Parker more than I ever did Bendis.
>>90390457
When did Cage get earrings? I just noticed them, and now it's bugging me that he has them, because punching through his skin is a painful hassle that I can't imagine him deciding to do.
>>90390486
>I don't QUITE know why Fixer's got a bug up his butt about Melissa being the leader. She lead the team once before, after all.
And then she betrayed his husbando and sent him careening backwards in time.
>>90390880
I think this might be Parker trying to correct good old Bendisian "Magic doesn't work on planes" nonsense.
>>90390163
First Ghost and now Man-Thing.
Karla might be a really generic bitch to remind everyone about their ex.
>>90398411
>Shitting on Karla Sofen
Get out.
>>90391110
Shit, what did Hank McCoy do to land him in prison?
>>90398361
He spent a lot of time unfucking bendis's bad ideas so that wouldn't surprise anyone.
>>90398450
That's Evil Dark Beast
>>90398511
Why does he look like Cat Beast tho?
Dark Beast was just a black version of fuzzy Beast, with leather pants.
>>90398411
Karla is THE bitch. Weaponized, perfected, and wrote multiple published papers on it.
>>90398538
He is his evil mirror, so he changes as the mainstream counterpart does.
>>90391137
Of those cover characters, Sandman, Batroc and to a lesser extent Absorbing Man would all probably be decent 'Bolts.
Although Creel would be a pain to try and wrangle.
>>90390457
I loathe how every single time Strange jobbed he always pointed that if he weren't depowered he'd totally wreck shit. It gets annoying and reminds me editorial only do that so he can hang out with Wolverine and not end shit in mere seconds instead of doing a proper Strange book.
>>90392105
>Reusing the Cyttorak font that's at least 90s old
Nice touch!
>>90398580
>He is his evil mirror, so he changes as the mainstream counterpart does.
But he's like twenty years older than 616 Hank, thanks to time travel. He was a fuzzy Beast possibly before 616 Hank was even born.
>>90398675
Does it count now that magic in general got hit with the nerf bat in his solo?
>>90391110
is that the mandrill? better not have any girls anywhere near that team
>>90390143

>>90408220

>>90390666
Man-thing came out in May of 1971, Swampthing came out in June. almost 10 years after Rachel Carson wrote "Silent Spring". environmentalism was coming out and the cold war was getting corporations to come up with chemical answers for everything even if it poisoned the environment. science lab experiments gone wrong is a common comic book origin story and one of the many ways scientific discoveries have been made in history
Both are based on The Heap.
