What's up, mah muggas?
We are getting closer and closer to the massacre!

You may remember that cover as the one that got edited during Joey Q's reign of terror. No-Prize to whoever guesses what got edited out.
I know I said no /tv/ talk but I just saw SKWAD.
This is why you don't do drugs with groupies, Ali.
Oh, if only you knew, Rogue...
Remember when the X-Men actually acted like superheroes?
Smooth, guy.
Ah, 80's fashion.
So that's your idea of class, lady? Goddamn hooker make-up? Sheesh.
>Don't you dare fight in here-- this is Bloomingdale's!
Fucking lol
>Illyana loves Kitty so much she drew a perfect life-like sketch of her
Ah yes, the best of metals: Bullshitum.
Whoops. Should've tried better to disguise yourselves, folks. Also, pretty rare to see someone who's prejudiced against all super-beings, not just mutants.
>>85164312
>no more hair metal Rogue
That was my favorite Rogue costume.
So how about that new Hellfire Club huh.
>>85164363
The 80's was not a time when the natural look was popular. Also, Rogue disregarding the man and focusing on lipstick is great.

Rogue has had so many looks through the years, it's pretty crazy.
>>85164857
Ah fuck, that's what happens when you skim comics you think you remember well!
>>85164819
Ding ding ding. Pretty shitty change too since the whole point of the cover is to make the X-Men look tough.
>>85164854

Waste of a good design desu
Time for some more Alan Davis!
>>85165035
Karolina's preincarnation?
I'm surprised Betsy didn't get some implants for her eyes. The whole "black empty void" thing is not a good look, lemme tell ya.Oh well, I guess she's about to get some "implants" anyway
>>85165334
Having wide open eye sockets just isn't sanitary, either. You should at least have them sewn shut.
>>85164800
I think Monet is a perfect fit for it. But I am not sure I am ready to see Black Tom as an antihero and a 100% evil villain.
And I think everybody would have prefered a mutant instead of Magneto's flatscan girlfriend.
>>85165256
I think this design's cooler honestly.
>>85165671
Yeah well, you know how writers are about pushing their OCs.

>>85165415

You know what Mojo needs to be relevant again? Come back as an app. Nobody watches TV anymore.
>>85165841
Also known as "sex hair".
>>85165872
I heard we were in a Golden Age of TV
Mad men, GoT, Breaking Bad, etc
>>85165921
Golden age for TV as a venue for telling stories, not a golden age for TV as mindless entertainment where you spend all your free time consuming it
Of course, Captain Britain saving the day just like would've been way too easy.
>>85165921
Viewership has been going steadily down, actually. People prefer Netflix rather than catching their favorite shows on TV.
Uh-oh, Illyana's pissed!
So what'd you guys read yesterday?
I'm sure he's totally dead for reals you guys.
>>85166216
I read all the stuff people dumped from the Win-O threads. People seem to think Rebirth is really great, I'm not convinced just yet.
I know its been awhile but New52 doesn't feel that long ago. Reading the first issue of New52 Aquaman doesn't feel that long ago... can't they just be definitive about something for once?
Also, is it just me, or does every Alan Davis comic I've read feature a really horrific death?
>>85163425
IIRC Mutant Massacre is the first time Sabretooth is used as an X-Men villain right?
>>85166302
Well, N52 was akind of a bust after the novelty wore off so can you really blame them? At least they let their series reach over 50 issues before relaunching them, unlike other companies *ahem*
>>85166216
I decided to be a madman, got myself a reading order list and one of those free comics sites (same one done by whoever does Kissmanga) and decided to actually start reading through the Clone Saga. It's one of the more important comic stories ever for good or ill so I figure I owe it to myself to read it.
>>85165872
Like I said, Memelord Mojo!
>>85166364
Yes. He also shows in Classic X-Men back-ups that we already read but I'm pretty sure Mutant Massacre came first.

Bobby looks like Luke Cage if Cage was a Legionnaire.
>>85166492
True, and considering how many comic writers are 40-somethings it'd probably be awkwardly done.

>>85165872
That Rahne is so fucking adorable.
Sorry about that, I had to take a very lengthy call.
>>85166730
I'll put up a poll. Personally, I only want to do the X-Men stuff, but if you guys want the other stuff too...
>>85167519
Shit.
Pretty lame designs for Davis.
>>85166364
Sort of; in the origin plans for UXM before Shooter made CC kill Jean/Byrne quit, Sabretooth would have appeared in #143-149 where he rapes/rendered Mairko brain dead to mess with Wolverine, forcing Logan to mercy kill Mariko and then fighting and killing Sabretooth, who'd be established to be his dad before dying
>>85167519
The X-Factor books were vital to Inferno.
>>85167608
That is fucked up.
>>85166815
It's a headband!
Should've seen it coming, Amara. It's not a Claremont issue without some good old fashioned mind control!

>>85168510
But I thought X-Men Apocalypse was, like, the worst X-Men movie of all time?! How can anything associated with it be worth so much money?!?!
>>85168640
Because collectors and speculators are the worst
Who's ready for some shit-ass costumes?!
>>85168589
Based on that look Dani was giving Warlock isn't the one Doug should be worried about
>>85168757
I remember Magik's looking decent
Also I do love Warlock
>>85168708I was being sarcastic, I personally don't get all the vitriol that movie got, I just thought it was very underwhelming, nothing horrific like X3 or Origins
>>85168757
I'm not!
>>85168879
Too bad, we're doing this anyway!
>>85168816
Hers is alright, but the others... yeesh.
Also, 'Lock is great for sure.
I like Adams' Spiral. She looks like a goddamned samurai.
Let's see how Claremont handles Longshot.
>dat Adams smile
Wolverine doesn't look any different :^)
Calm down, Doug, I'm sure nothing will ever come of this.

I would really question if there was any plan to her beyond a vague notion that they would eventually do the betrayal and becomes evil story.
The whole retconned timetravel thing is always an afterthought, just look at Cable: it was the same deal with him.
I don't ship this.
>>85170438
I didn't really see any hints in Longshot's mini, it was probably Claremont's idea.
>>85170422
The hairy man shirtless look is very disturbing to see pushed with Wolverne all the time.
How exactly was this intended to warp and pervert young minds?
I like my X-fetishes in a different flavor, thank you very much!
Neat use of the onomatopoeia there.
>>85169705
Originally, this was the case. In the Handbook of the Marvel Universe, 1981-1983 published edition, Wolverine's section had a cutaway sketch of his forearms showing that his claws were implants with spring loaded housings.
While this was retconned MUCH later, it was still what was going on with him during this story.
>>85170631
kek
>>85170169
Because they don't really need individual costumes. Uniforms or street clothes work well for them. For example, why does Sam need a visor when he's invulnerable when he's blastin'? Only Dani (Valkyrie mode) and Illyana (sorceress/darkchild mode) and Sunspot (because he's such a showboat) seem like they need individual costumes
>>85169870
Magma and Magik look pretty okay for the comic's era. The rest, holy shit.
KURT OF MURDER
>>85170670
I know, it's just weird to see moments that contradict later canon, especially with Wolverine.
>>85170747
Magma's just so generic. I do like Illyana's though.
>>85170585
Mindwarping and identity corruption ... Now that's the kind of perv I've come to love from X-comics.
>Never let us speak of those costumes again
>>85170000
Mojo is a sick freak.
>>85168510
Not really.
It was a $20-50 book in the early 90s but the price for it basically sank like a stone by the late 90s, so you had about 18-19 years of it being a dollar book (I should know, I grabbed up about 3-4 copies dirt cheap around the time Betsy's role in X-Men Apocalypse came out).
Even then though, it never rose to more than $50 when X-Men Apocalypse hit theaters. It's not a rare book like NM #87 or 98; lots of copies exist in the wild.
That's all for now, tomorrow: the Massacre starts!!
>>85168640
Outside a couple of issues (UXM #212-213, 244, 266, Annual #14; X-Factor #24; New Mutants #87, 98) most of the 80s/early 90s X-Men books stopped being worth a lot of money around the late 90s when the X-Men popularity train started by Jim Lee/Rob Liefeld finally died down following Onslaught.
A lot of people ended up liquidating their collections of X-Men books and New Mutants Annual #2 was one of those once hot books (going for $20-50 when the X-Men were at their peak in the early 90s) that everyone got rid of, so they are scrambling to try and get them again.
That said, the real hot as fuck, going for HUGE fucking bucks Psylockes shit, are her first appearances in the original Captain Britain comic from the early 70s. Even the Moore/Delano books (the former being next to impossible to find these days) doesn't sell as much as the Claremont penned Brian in zentai/Betsy as a blonde era first appearances
>>85170868
>>85170906
Illyana is looking pretty sullen there. I wonder how much of that is artist's discretion and how much was scripted? Being left out of the group hug isn't something that an artist does by mistake.
>>85170537
It's been speculated by some that Spiral was supposed to be Longshot's lover or wife from the Mojoverse. Longshot was a big star and Spiral his girlfriend or wife with ties to Mojo giving her a level of authority over the humans in the Mojoverse. Spiral most likely fell head over feet in love with Longshot and at best, led her on or at worse, flat out exploited her love for him for his own selfish interests (to become a star in the Mojoverse or to use her to help the rebellion).
And the super hate came from Longshot opting to reject Spiral/serving Mojo as one of his favorites (meaning they got to live better than the other slaves) to join the rebellion, when push came to shove and Spiral giving him a "if you love me, you'll stay by my side and loyal to Mojo!!!".
Robert Kirkman went a similar route in his Ultimate X-Men run with the Ultimate Spiral/Longshot back story. Though Kirkman had a major twist: Spiral hated Longshot because he was a super-jealous, possessive boyfriend who murdered the man Spiral dated after they broke up, because he was still obsessed with her and didn't want her to love anyone else and Longshot manipulating her and the X-Men to try and get acquitted of the crime.
>>85167607
A bit heavy on the yellow...Besides I think Cannonball's X-Force uniform was his best
>>85171527
My personal favorite, even if the goggles are silly
>>85170926
FunFact: Mojo was a composite based upon real people that the Marvel talent met when dealing with TV network executives who wanted to "adapt" X-Men characters.
If you don't believe me just remember that a televised Wolverine with an Australian accent once existed. That's Mojo's doing.
>>85171695
You would not believe how long it took me to realize that was a "C" - for Cannonball.
>>85171695

It was in the Longshot mini, issue 4 or 5? There's a part where Mojo has Ricochet Rita tied to the prow of his ship as he sails the Wildways, and Spiral is thinking to herself that she remembers this and can't believe she's helping create herself. Let me see if I can find the page.
God damn, I love Art Adams X-Men work.
>>85171964
Makes me wonder what other X-characters have signature artists. Warlock and Legion obviously
>>85171427
er, you know Spiral is Ricochet Rita from the origin mini, right?

Liefeld and Cable
Alan Davis and Captain Britain
Jim Lee's Psylocke set the standard for her for a decade.
>>85171194
Doubt she was left out. More likely she felt uncomfortable in a group display of affection.
Are you doing ALL the X-Men comics in order?
>>85172060
A smart investor would buy up classic Illyana stuff in preparation for the New Mutants movie.
up
>>85173162
Maybe I'm not a savvy enough investor but only Uncanny 160 and the mini series seem like they'll be worth it. Her first appearance is swallowed up in Giant-Size X-men and "her" death was published when issues were selling millions.
>>85169870

I'd love to read through this hwole big storytime but, as I found out when it started, I don't have the attention span. However, I'd particularly love to read Inferno as I never have before. When it comes to that, would you guys say it'd be a good jumping on point? I already know a fair amount about the X-Men, I'm not new to comics or anything.
