Sup /asp/, are you looking forward to the olympics next year?
I didn't have much interest in Rio hosting the Olympics for 2016, but then I recently took up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I'm specifically looking forward to the opening and closing ceremonies, plus the Judo and Freestyle Wrestling matches.
Being based in Brazil means there will be more Brazilian athletes, right? And so, more Brazilian Judokas and Wrestlers, who might also be trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Of course, there are plenty of other /asp/-related sports as well, being the Olympics.
I personally can't wait.
I wonder if the Gracies will be giving a performance in the opening ceremony...
Oh yeah, and Greco-Roman wrestling. I didn't realise that was also in the Olympics.

I really hope you're just pretending to be retarded.
>>762322
it almost wasn't a few years ago. not enough viewers, boring play and retarded scoring system.
at least two out of three of those guarantees BJJ will never enter the olympics

>at least two out of three of those guarantees BJJ will never enter the olympics
You're right, which is why I'm looking forward to the Wrestling and Judo events instead (in addition to the sports NZ kicks ass in, like rowing)

judo is fucking fun to watch. they did nerf it recently in an effort to differentiate themselves from BJJ, which is a singularly retarded thing to do to your sport's future. should still be fun though

I looked up matches with Brazilian Judokas back in the London 2012 olympics. I found this:

The Brazilian Judoka is of course Rafael Silva, who competes in Bellator MMA. Gonna be so good next year.
There's also Taekwondo to watch, and Boxing (although I wish it was kickboxing or Muay Thai instead)
Oh shit, looking at the medal tables:

Russia does really well as well. I forgot all about them. Of course their folk wrestling and Sambo is really popular over there.

How about 3 out of 3. I do BJJ, but I would never watch an IBJJF rules match. That shit's retarded.
Brazilians are a bunch of big assed savages that figured out how to git gud at fighting. Never trust them to develop a coherent ruleset. Or any kind of organizing at any level really.
Case in point: the best rule set in sub grappling is developed by a pothead who believes in chemtrails.

BJJ is part of Brazil's history. The host country showcases parts of their history in the opening ceremony.
See, it's not such a stupid question after all.
>>762303
more people train judo itself than meme jiu jitsu here.
it's the most popular martial art for children.
The Olympics are entirely >>>/sp/

I find that really hard to believe, but shit I've never been to Brazil, so
>>763142
Not when you consider the sports involved.
/sp/ is just american football, basketball, soccer, cricket, rugby, ice hockey, lacrosse, and other team sports.

Arguably, the gymnastics and swimming could be on /fit/ too, and the fencing could also be on /k/
