Everyone blames the series' cancellation on his poor health at the time, but the story was literally going nowhere at that point. JoJo and HxH were perfect fodder for the autistic WSJ crowd, but they escaped for ages because they didn't have any real Western presence in the 2000s, and those fanbases don't tend to look beyond the most surface-level stuff. Then they got long anime, which tipped those people off that they existed, and it was all over.
