Why is the level design so dull in these games compared to the original one?
In the first Dark Souls you had to watch your step anywhere you went and there was always some kind of twist and a surprise in each level. In the sequels all levels are literally the same but with different skin, you only had to be afraid of the enemies.

because dark souls 1 wasnt playing to the mass audience much like how demob souls was. they just cared about making thier game as their vision wanted it. not making sure it fits the 'lore' or if so and so would be fun for the average player. FROM is good at making one off games where they dont have to care about the future series. demon/bloodborne/DS1 are proof of this

Groups literally reject you from content if your AP number isn't a certain amount.
So not only do you have to grind for item level gear but also for stupid numbers on a weapon talent tree.
Back in the old days of WoW, none of this mattered at all. People just invited you if your class and character level was okay and you weren't a sperglord.

Considering people laterally never talk about it and i just remembered it exists i guess DR4 is pretty close.
But id have to say Final Fight Streetwise.
In before people say SFV.
While the game did disappoint casuals its still talked about and posted about every single day and everyone constantly talks about every new single character.

For Aleph you want to focus on STR obviously. Speed and Vit are also good, and Luck gives you crits in this game unlike the first game, and Int improves some physical stats sightly and makes demon negotiation better, so don't neglect that. Just make sure you have at least 10 Magic, because you need it to pass a stat check.
For Hiroko you have the option of building her as a mage or fighter. Fighter should be the same as Aleph but with more Vit, to compensate for low hp growths. Mage should obviously focus on Mag and Int much more. Either works, fighter becomes a powerhouse but mage gets more utility.
