So, since there are these stats about assist, and players performances are often measured by their assists(beside goals), I had a few questions about assists.

Basically, when is an assist counted as an assist?

1 - Is an assist always the last played ball to the goal scoring player? With a goal kick for example, if it goas directly to the scoring player, does the goalie get an assist? Or what about a standard pass that is followed with a long dribble solo by the scoring player?

2) In the case of an own goal, does the player from the attacking team that touched the ball last get an assist?

3) freekick/corner to scoring player is an assist for the freekick/corner taker, right? What about throw ins?

4) Player A shoots on goal, but the ball bounces off the goalie/defending player/post. Player B scores a tap in from the rebound. Assist for player A?

5) A direct freekick to the goal doesnt count as an assist for anyone, right?

Yes to both

Yes

Yes to all

Goal usually yes. If it bounces of an opposing player, it's usually counted as a goal without an assister.

Depends who's keeping track. Some sites count drawing a freekick, or penalty as an assist. But I think most leagues' official stats won't count them.
