Tesla conceived of a system of rail transportation in space, free from air resistance. The Orbital Ring that he conceived of can be built today, with existing technology. In addition to terrestrial transportation, the Orbital Ring would drastically reduce the cost of sending payloads to space, from $2000/kg to $1/kg.
This would enable your childhood dreams to become real. Terraforming and colonies on the Moon and Mars. Middle class families could take vacations on another planet. An end to climate change through space-based solar power. The project would pay for itself many times over by mining asteroids, and selling space-based solar power to the world.
We can do it. Today.

Pretty sure a faggoty space train won't do anything you stated.
Also obsession with trains is a sign of autism. Your mom should take you to get checked
>>8822674
Retarded because absolutely not needed for centuries. And i'm not even talking about feasibility.
>>8822717
>Pretty sure a faggoty space train won't do anything you stated.
Was there anything specific you wanted to discuss? Or just having a troll?
Why isn't everyone on earth working on creating a self replicating 3d printer bigger than a car that can work metal plastic and electronic components.
It would literally bring instant post scarcity. Sure, it may be hard to manufacture, but once you have one, it's over, no more humanity problems ever ever for no reason, everybody happy for ever no more fighting.
Think about it, its a machine that can shit any other machine including itself, it only needs raw resources. Suddenly every country can have an instant industrial base, it cannot be stopped by copyright and it doesnt even need a skilled workforce. Altough it could be programable to make new machines with input from scholars. Many poor countries have a god tier intellectual elite who just don't have the resourcess to do cool stuff, with this, that would no longer be a problem.
1) why isnt everyone working on this?
2)what are the main impediments for this?
>>8821102
can it print love
>>8821102
>falling hard for the post scarcity meme
>>8821104
yes, or sort of
it can print you a gym to get yourself in shape
some poetry books for you to get all artsy and shit
and it can print you a comfy house with a bed and smooth jazz music.
if you cant find love with those you have to wait a few more years until they invent realistic sexbots
So what's going on with this thing? Why are they so quiet? Where's the exciting discoveries they promised?
The LHC isn't about science, it's about engineering. You can't make any discoveries with the LHC because the results would be unusable.
>>8829669
But aren't they trying to collide atoms to get better understanding of the universe? How is this not science?
>>8829681
Knowing the behaviors of particles at those energy levels is useless information, because we can't create any technology that operates at those energy levels. Unless it shows something that falsifies current theories, but the chance of that happening is extremely low.
The design of the LHC has, however, helped the development of more compact particle accelerators, which can speed up scientific discoveries for energy levels that actually are practical.
My bet is on India + Russia: great culture, extremely good at math and science, nuclear tech, etc.

Who is more poorer, India or Russia?
Combination of pooing in the street, then getting drunk and sleeping in it.
Would life on other planets have DNA just like earth life?
>>8829468
It could possibly have something analagous to DNA, but literal DNA molecules seems unlikely.
I think it is likely. In fact, I think an intelligent civilization would look almost exactly the same.
>>8829476
Then why do ALL life on earth have DNA and not something else?
>>8829486
Because that's just the evolutionary path we went down. If alien life started differently then it would look very different.
Is Dentistry a Science?
>>8828906
Is medicine a science?
>>8828910
>Medicine (British English Listeni/ˈmɛdsᵻn/; American English Listeni/ˈmɛdᵻsᵻn/) is the science and practice of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.[1][2]
Checkmate
>>8828906
It depends on what side of the field you are on. The researchers on what makes certain tooth care products healthy is definitely an applied science. The actual practice of being a dentist is more of a trade, a very prestigious and high paying one that requires a lot of education, but still a trade. The difference between a software engineer and someone working on fast integer factorization parallels the dentist/researcher contrast.
Do we know for certain that the Riemann Hypothesis is provable? I'm a brainlet compared to you guys so forgive me if this is a stupid question. If it isn't provable, what does that mean? What would happen then?
>>8828821
Yes, since Mochizuki already proved it.
>>8828821
>I'm a brainlet compared to you guys
Protip newfag, don't sell yourself short. 80% of the posters here don't even have triple digit IQ.
>>8828821
It's not that dumb of a question, there are already unprovable statements (halting problem, continuum hypothesis). As far as the Riemann hypothesis goes, there's no proof that it's not provable.
Is it plausible that humans will one day escape our reality's constraints and exist in a higher dimension?
That's what people doing drugs do every day.
>>8828809
I have done dmt and the rest but still hesitant to agree that those spaces are higher dimensional reality
>>8828807
No, we are material plus consciousness, if you remove the material the consciousness dies; if you remove the consciousness the material dies.
I'm finally going to begin studying Quantum Mechanics next semester. Wish me luck.
>>8828653
It's not so hard.
>>8828653
It's counter-intuitive, so you gotta switch ur thinking. The standard (classical) wave theory doesn't apply anymore, where energy builds up in a medium to gradually liberate atoms or molecules, it's much different with electrons.
>>8828656
This. Wait till you get to quantum field theory.
Do you have any good quantum physics book from which I can learn quantum physics to a graduate degree ?
>>8828519
Shankar.
>>8828519
Griffiths is used a lot in undergrad
>>8828535
After Griffiths what is the next step ?
I know what /sci thinks about numberphile, but what about periodic videos? I think that they make easy to understand chemistry videos that can appeal a lot of people but without falling in dumbed down popsci garbage.

Although this guy does not looks like the hottest Hollywood actor, the chances of him having a horney as mayhem wife and hot sexy daughters is very high. He makes good money.
But his looks makes the average goy think studying and growing your intellect ain't cool enough to get steamy sex.
itok. ..
>>8828349
I feel bad for him desu, each video I watch of him it seems like he's going to die at any moment, not to mention his tremors that possibly prevent him from doing chemistry
>>8828451
Yeah, Parkinson's is fucking awful.
Are internet science communities like reddit /sci/ or the dinosaur fan community on deviantart just a bunch of Silicon Valley white collar workers who have too much time on their hands, so they decide to go on reddit and circle jerk each other with science and star trek memes instead of consisting of actual scientists?
>Silicon Valley white collar workers
Oh boy I sure wish I was that rich. No, I think that, at least on /sci/, most of us are poor grad students that are passionate enough about our subjects to talk about them on 4chan. I haven't seen that many star trek or sci fi memes on here. I don't go to reddit or DA either so I couldn't say anything about those groups.
>>8828220
You mean losers with too much time on their hands? Get a job hippie
>>8828220
The science boards on reddit are censored as fuck though. I wouldn't be suppressed if they delete data or comments that are scientifically accurate but go against their opinions.
Is it scientifically possible to create genetically engineered / enhanced super soldiers today?
Asking for a friend.
>>8828134
yes
>>8828134
Probably exist now, but of course it's going to be secret because of fucking UN bitching about "muh human rights".
>>8828134
We're getting there, ethics are getting in the way though, we'll need an Age of Strife and then we'll be able to make Thunder Warriors.
