In the year 1986, crime in America is at an all-time high. Criminals, drugs, and guns flow into the country from everywhere in the world, and the gateway to it all is the coastal paradise, Heat City. On the neon-soaked streets of this beating heart of scum and villany, you can get whatever you want -- if you can pay the price.

You are Johnny the thug, and ever since you agreed to take one small job for the Bratva, your life has gone sideways. One thing led to another as you made enemies of one half of the city's underworld, and then the other half. With the help of some new friends -- Alex the enforcer, Nick the thief, and the Yamada family -- you went all-in and led a daring heist on the Triad's skyscraper fortress, Dragon's Nest. It went great until you were shot and fell off the roof, twenty-five stories down.

With luck or fate on your side, and the help of your friends, you survived to tell the tale. But you haven't forgotten that someone out there has been playing games with you, pitting the city's criminal syndicates against each other with you caught in the middle. You're going to find out who it is, and make them pay.

The soft glow of your pulsating medical tanks glimmer against the polished stone of the murals covering the walls as your drones march forth with piles of equipment balanced atop their carapaces with care. Nutrient vats slowly grow as drones pile various forms of collected biomass into the digestion tanks for processing, the piping slowly growing the short distance to the medical tank as a number of Phantom priestesses look on from just outside, their minds a mixture of fear, jubilation, and confusion at the strange but overwhelming display of hive biotechnology, unaware and incapable of understanding the magnificent complexity of the medical procedures being performed upon the childless queen that has looked over their tribe for as long as their legends can say.

You realize, like the Ralighans, and despite the Barren Queen's efforts to stamp out such superstition, you are a god to these primitive creatures, and the tribe's spiritual and practical leaders have all gathered to watch you weave magic before them. They watch your drones with reverence, avoiding their paths while following closely behind any time they leave the Barren Queen's chamber as your drones ignore them as inconsequential to their orders. Several workers, while standing idle awaiting a new order, have even had a number of small talismans pinned to their bodies, hanging from antennae or stuck to the thorax with a waxy cream harvested from the secretions of a small beetle analog.

You do not recognize the details of their activities as having any form of practical application, but as the Barren Queen slips into your medical pod, the mountains echo with the sounds of their alien music and invocations of the spirits of ancestors and other mythological entities.

Welcome back to Hive Queen Quest!

You exist. You're not entirely sure why or how it happened, but now you exist. You've got a body and a newfound consciousness which hasn't had any use as of yet. You decide curiosity is a good first use of your mind and ask, what are you? Using what what few appendages you have to feel out your own body and get a better understanding of exactly what you are. Mostly fleshy with no orifices as far as you can tell, but you can sense things. You can see the dimensions of room you're in despite the complete darkness. You know the taste and texture of the walls without touching or tasting them. Interesting, but try as you might you can't do much other than observe. The simple movement of your tentacles was tiring, and through your observations you found yourself to be entirely alone.

You feel vulnerable. It's not a good feeling.

To this end you reach out with your mind in every direction. Far beyond the stone walls that contain you there are an abundance of pink fleshy creatures, although none as pink or as fleshy as you. Not particularly powerful, but physically capable, they'd make for interesting champions, at least initially.

After the untimely passing of Avatar Korra the nations of the world came together as one and paid respects to the late Avatar. Uniter of the Spirit and Human worlds, Savior of Republic city, and the champion of the pro bending tournament for the past seven years running. Not much is known about why or how Avatar Korra passed, but at only thirty seven the world suspects one of the truest problems that she had faced in her time as the Avatar. Equelists.

Since the Avatar defeated the equelist leader ,Amon several decades ago, the world has long since thought the movement was over. They would be mistaken. With the newest Avatar still being searched for by the White lotus, the cells of these equelist, kept in check by the presence of the Avatar have begun making their move. Across the great Nations of the world, average Joes spurred on by old equellist propaganda and the emerging technology of Future Industries, Verik Industries, and the Cabbage corporation have given them the power to fight their 'oppressors'

It has been eight years since the passing of Avatar Korra, and the division grows between benders and non-benders with every passing day. The White lotus have not divulged any information regarding a new Avatar being found in the Earth Kingdom. The held hope between the general public is that he or she returns soon to put an end to the hate in this advancing world.

You are amazed by the sights and sounds of an actual town. The first satomobile you have ever seen. The first three stroy building that was not carved into a tree. The utter lack of swampwater around your feet. Not to mention the smell of freshly baked pastries, the intoxicating smells of city food are more than enough to throw you into a mad fit of hunger.

"Hey pops, I'm starving. Can we get a bite to eat?"

"Yeah sure, Xo." your father rifles through the back of his wagon and produces a small bag. "Got enough here to get a nice meal, head down to the *White Dragon* and get us a table. I'll catch up soon." your father tells you.

You take the bag and tell your father goodbye as you head down the street your father pointed you down. You pass several curious and interesting shops. Curious, you slowly walk by the windows of some of these shops.

'Verik Industries, point and shooty store' a small shop with several curious seemingly handheld devices. "Neat"

'Cabbage Co, Walker talkers' a shop full of brick sized black boxes "Cooleo"

'Future industries, S.D.P.R' a shop full of what seemed to be small metal men, so bigger than a child. "Weird"

and several other stores with various other oddities. When you finally see the *White Dragon Cafe* a cozy little shop with the aroma of freshly brewed tea wafting gently from the door.

This diamond in the rough was a clear winner for nicest shop on the block. Looking around, you notice several sketchy shops.

*The bare fox-robbin*
*Sheershnews kill*
*Avatars bane*

"This place seems pretty out of place" you think to yourself.

Always an adventerous youth you had always been curious as to the things around you. Now is no different. But as you look around yourself at the various shops, your fathers words echo in your ear.

After getting lost in the bayou during an outing for your college ecology lab Trevor, you, wound up in some strange hidden realm inhabited by creatures like goblins and trolls. Initially it was quite a scary place as you were taken prisoner and nearly didn't survive. With some cunning though, you played upon the prejudice of the orc chieftain of a tribe here, and prompted a challenge to power. With dirty tricks, cunning and a bit of luck, you managed to win. This caused an uproar among the tribe but after much deliberation and consulting traditions, they agreed upon giving you a chance to try out being the new chieftain.

It has been about two weeks since then, as you continue to adjust to this strange land and its ways, as well as the workings of the tribe and your new accepted role as chieftain. Currently however, you have been taken prisoner by the ruler of a rival tribe, seeking to force you into an alliance and gain the cooperation of your tribe.

Specifically, last time you had been kidnapped and imprisoned in an island fortress of sorts belonging to a rival tribe known as the Geletres by their chieftess, Ranuelle. It seems her plan is to keep you captive until you relent to accepting the proposal of uniting your tribe and this rival one.

All is not lost though, since you've made a friend in a sympathetic goblin whom has been providing for your needs, and as well you know to have sent a spy among this tribe and others so perhaps help will come when you discover this spy.

Currently you are being woken up by the goblin lady and an orc helper, after a good night's sleep. She has breakfast brought for you, and should you wish she can fetch Ran who will give you permission to wash and clean yourself. She says, because after a few days here you've got hair on your face bristling, and she takes that as a sign that you could do with a cleaning.

That is of course your own choice, she simply provides the option, after setting the breakfast on wooden plates upon a table in your room for you, pouring a drink and asking the orc with her to draw the curtains and let some light into the room.

You're elbow-deep in ox guts when you hear the shouting. As a lowly thrall, it's none of your business. If there's trouble, your gryphon keeper masters will deal with it. But will they deal with it in time? From the sound of the voices, there'll be violence soon.

You glance around, certain one of the other thralls working in the butcher shed will react. They remain focused, knives moving with rhythmic, practiced efficiency as they cut meat for the gryphons too young, injured, or sick to hunt. But you're new to service in Aerie, the capital of the Vaengren Empire. Even as you try to remain diligent, you can hear the voices through the flimsy walls of the shed.

The first voice is loud and familiar. You and the speaker, Eini, have shared chores. He's a bit gruff, but he's been kind to you. The other voice is lower, and it has a cruel edge. You recognize Unner, one of the fledgling gryphon keepers. He's your age, and as a fledgling, he's still in training. He has to obey his sponsor and any other senior gryphon keeper. But you have to obey him, as does every other thrall.

"You'll do what I say, thrall," says Unner, his voice hard with menace.

"Like wyrm dung I will," shouts Eini. He really shouldn't speak to a gryphon keeper that way, even if Unner is still a fledgling. With a few words to the right people, Unner could have Eini sent to the front lines. You've heard about the war, the enemy's enormous, bright-scaled wyrms filling the skies with fire. Eini wouldn't last the week.

You'd better act fast. But you've got work to finish, too.

>I have to look out for myself first. I'll finish my task and then check on Eini.

>If Eini needs me, I have to help. I leave without stopping to clean up.

>If I want Eini to listen to me, I better look credible. I splash some water on myself, and then go to see what's happening.

You find a basin to rinse in. The water is icy, and you shiver as you scrub the blood off. Still damp, you head into the training yard.

You arrive just in time to see Eini stagger from a punch to the jaw. You hear his sharp hiss of pain, quickly muffled. Unner rubs his knuckles and smiles.

"I could feed you to Dustfeather, thrall," says Unner. He's tall, even for a gryphon keeper, and his white—and—gray fledgling uniform is so clean it looks new. He makes Eini, a short, broad boy, look dingy by comparison. However, Dustfeather, Unner's eagle and panther gryphon, says more about the fledgling than his clean uniform.

You successfully escaped from a party that was busted up by the Scyths (private police) along with your artist friend Deng Li. The two of you spent the night in your apartment (platonically) and this morning you received an email from your boss about audits which prompted you to decide to telecommute.

You flip open your laptop and make quick work of analyzing today's quota of external accounts, finishing your basic duties before Deng Li makes his way through his Rice Crunchies. You're ready to compile your report but you have noticed two abnormalities: a massive increase in expenditures by a corporate body listed as “Universal Engineering” and dramatically reduced returns from a small independent returns from a local extermination business. You decide to highlight these discrepancies before sending the results off to your boss. It'll probably be a few hours before he bothers to check his inbox but you've technically completed all of your duties for the day in under two hours.

“I'm done.”

Deng Li looks up from his iLegal phone.

“Already? You must be more of a corporate wunderkind than I realized, Sun. I guess I should be going... unless you wanted to do something today?”

Your name is Keiichi Hirayama. Your sister is named Airi Hirayama. The two of you are magi—humans with magic and a greater affinity for the Spirit World—and possess a bizzare tendency to cause chaos wherever you two go. Last year, through bullets, explosions and freak accidents, the two of you managed to help interrupt Japan's premier magus academy battle tournament--The Festival of Magic—thrice in a row.

To say that the Ministry of Education is furious would be an understatement. As punishment, they have forced you and your sister to undergo mandatory community service. There are ten tasks to complete and they must be all done by the tournament start date, lest you both be blacklisted from every educational institution and workplace in the entire country. You think it's absolutely retarded, but it seems like there's no choice. You and your sister must step up with your sister and overcome these trials, otherwise your future career will become nothing more than dust in the wind. The eyes of Shibuya and the spirit world are upon you both, so good luck and don't screw this up!

Creation: The ninth category of magic. To create, to give form, to make reality. This brand of magic is generally ascribed to disciplines that involve the formation of entities out of base components, such as alchemy or runecrafting. Yet, the highest level of Creation is said to not involve components at all; the magus simply 'withdraws the void' around the desired object. Such magic does not exist in the modern world, but it may have been used in primordial times.

Faith: What is generated by the thoughts and emotions of humanity. Spirits use them to sustain themselves and gain power. It is also used as a form of currency, usually in a base 'raw' form. The closer a piece of a faith is towards the spirit's 'domain', the more effective it will be.

Convincing fellow magi to fight alongside you is easier than one would imagine. All you have to do is go up to them and ask.

“Airi, let’s do this.”

“Hey Michiko, want to fight a match together?”

“Nina, you look bored, let’s team up.”

“Shall we begin, dear Keiichi?”

“Florence, I swear to god, if you fuck this up I am going to kill you.”

Nine of ten times, they agree. The remaining 10% is overcome with a little bit of gentle persuasion, generally the reminder of a favour owed. This eagerness stems from a universal trait of magi: the desire to seek power, consciously or unconsciously. Offering them the chance to battle is like placing a tray of fresh cookies in front of a ravenous child.

You’re just thankful the process isn’t so complicated, because god knows enough bullshit has happened to you in the battle arena already. Sometimes, when she’s feeling bored, Nina sends you a link to the video that was recorded on your very first day at True Hearts. You sometimes muster up the courage to peek at the comments section. Submerging your head into a bog would give you less of a headache.

>>Keiichi: Ask Hideki to fight with you.

You catch him at one of the desks in the library. He’s scribbling something in a notebook, snickering and giggling to himself as he goes. He always does that when he finds something particularly interesting. You expect to see a fresh article on the amateur journalist site tonight. Maybe you’ll read it if he sends you the link.

“Hey, Hideki.” You greet, walking up to him.

“Keiichi!” Hideki gives you a grin, turning his head to look at you. “What can I do for you?”

You jerk a thumb in the direction of the battle arena. “Want to fight together? It’s been a while.”

“Sure! Hold on, let me finish this up…” There’s some more scribbling, “Okay, I’m done. Let’s go, buddy!”

The two of you leave the library and head for the battle arena. The two of you make small conversation. It’s just two boys doing boy things and not considering the opposite gender at all. Some way through the walk, Avery interrupts you.

“Eh…hey Keiichi, are you sure about this guy? He doesn’t look particularly strong…”

“As opposed to who?”
You answer, “Michiko? Airi? Nina, whose muscles are nearing atrophy from all the video games she plays?”

Avery flinches. You know this due to the gap in her chatter. “Yeah, I see your point, but this guy doesn’t seem like he’s suited for pure combat. He’s kinda scrawny, y’know?”

“One-on-one, maybe, but he’s good at supporting.”
You reply. Simultaneously, you nod and casually reply to what Hideki is saying. Talking to the spirit in the mind while communicating with the physical world is something you have learned over the course of your mentorship. Akasha-Alea actually classified it as an important real-world skill. She talked to you a lot during the initial stages of your mentorship. It was annoying. “I know from experience.”

“If you say so…”
>>
“Don’t let it dampen your excitement.”

“Dampen? You sayin’ I’m not excited? I’m hell excited!” Avery shouts. “I’ll show you just how great of a revolver I am, damn it! You better not screw up too, got it?”

“Yeah yeah, let’s do this…”

“So how does your friend fight, anyway? What’s his magic art?”

“He’s an annoying prick.”

“…”

“That’s how he fights. I’m serious.”

The battle arenas of Shibuya are a window into the soul of their respective academies. Stonewolf’s is formal and Spartan, using the results there for its assessment of its students. In Caelestis, the participants are expected to fight beautifully as they claim victory. Lady Sagisawa’s hooks its students up to machines and records the data from the fights—all with their consent, of course. Last but not least, True Hearts, being the reliable, standard and sometimes overlooked of the Big Four, constructed its battle arena with the sole purpose of letting its students to enjoy themselves. There’s an air of casualness inside the waiting room that its rivals notably lack. It suits you just well.

To register for a fight, students must go up to one of the self-serve machines and apply for the matchmaking process. Once done, they are given a ticket and told to wait until their designated time. Each match takes from five to ten minutes. There’s plenty of arena spaces for enough students to work their kinks out every day.

>>Keiichi and Hideki: Do all of what was described above.

You press buttons on the matchmaking machines and wait for the process to complete. A few seconds later, this is what pops up on the screen in big white letters. You and Hideki stare at it.

KEIICHI HIRAYAMA and HIDEKI NISHIO vs. MICHIKO TSUKIWAKI and AIRI HIRAYAMA.

“Wow.” You utter after a moment’s pause.

“Man, this could be a bit troublesome.” Hideki chuckles, a bit nervously. “Glad it’s not Nina.”

“Of all the opponents…” You mumble. “Yeah, this might take a while.” So much for a quick and easy match to test out Avery, eh?

“To be placed against some of True Hearts’ toughest girls…” Hideki says, “This is some luck we have, eh Keiichi?”

“Well, it might not be all that bad.” You reply. “Airi isn’t in top condition today.”

“How come?”

You don’t answer, because you suddenly realize the aforementioned girls are standing by the machine next to yours.

>“Are you ready for men to be proven superior?”
>“I’ll give you a handicap. Revolver only.”
>“Okay girls, prepare to get your ass kicked.”
>“Airi, are you sure you can do this?”
>“Let’s have a good match.”

You are Captain Kusajishi Riku, and after a very long day you've finished with the Lieutenants under your tutelage. They've since been fed in your Division's mess hall and put up for the night in temporary quarters: your sister-in-law Miyako with your daughter, and Abarai, Kira, and Hinamori together in a small triple room with the hope that they'll be chatty with each other before they pass out from exhaustion.

Then of course you had to tuck Halibel and Apacci in, since they're still in their resurrección forms and wouldn't be able to fall asleep otherwise due to their heightened senses and unusually active reiatsu. To your credit you even tried to do the thing properly and read Apacci a bedtime story, which for some reason she protested at despite Tia's silent amusement.

Now night has fully fallen, leaving you to retreat into your own quarters. The windows are cracked open to invite the cool night air in and let the warm, stale air from inside out: this may be one of the last nights you'll be able to do that until spring comes... assuming you're still around to see it. The notes you wrote about Hadō #99 are spread out on the tatami in front of you, several pages of handwritten gibberish that feels at the same time both alien and tantalizingly familiar.

Yoruichi reclines on the couch nearby reading a book of her own, no title visible on its well-worn cover. It looks like it could be a thousand years old, and knowing her Clan it may well be.

With a frustrated sigh you collapse onto your back with a dull thump. “This is going nowhere.”

“That bad?” your wife muses, closing her reading and setting it on the cushion next to her. “Maybe you should take a break... I'll admit, fascinating as this may be I'm not getting much usable information from it either. I could do with a break myself.”

“So what'd you do with Omaeda after training?” you ask, forcing yourself upright and crossing your legs.

Yoruichi scoffs. “When he was done stuffing his face he passed out in your mess hall, so I figured I'd just leave him there 'till breakfast.”

“His fundamentals seem solid,” you reckon, recalling his performance earlier in the day. “Though that just means he's not living up to that potential.”

“He uses too much energy with everything he does,” Yoruichi muses. “The strain is spread out through a lot of body mass, so he doesn't actually feel that he's overexerting until he's already used too much reiatsu and exhausted himself.”

“Sounds a bit like someone we both know,” you nod, reminding her that Ichigo has a similar problem, “except mister Substitute just doesn't seem to ever really run out of energy.”

“Ah, to be young again...” Yoruichi sighs.

“We're not that old yet,” you snort. “As strong as we've gotten it'll be at least five hundred years before we really have to start rationing our reiatsu.”

“Speaking of things that won't happen for five hundred years,” Yoruichi grins, “what's going on with those notes of yours? Can I help?”

“A second set of eyes couldn't hurt,” you shrug, “so long as you can make sense of my handwriting.”

“Let me see,” she sighs, easing herself onto the floor by your side and looking over the sea of papers. “Yeah, I see the problem... on the face of it at least, none of this really makes sense. I can understand the words but with no idea what they refer to I can't even guess their meaning, like the whole thing is written in allegory.”

“Least it's not in puns,” you shrug. “I don't think I could live with that.”

>Let's try to start at what looks like the “beginning”, maybe work our way up from there.

>You are at a port with your older sister Chela.
"It was sad to visit the Falocona memorial."
>"It was necessary. We must never forget what happened there."
>You sigh.
"As if anyone would forget."
>Chela has a serious expression on her face.
>You give her a confused look.
"Chela?"
>"I've, paid for our boat tickets back to Valis."
"Thank goodness, I miss home."
>"I know you're 14 now, but I'm still worried about you."
"Stop treating me like a kid sis, sheesh!"
>"I need to check in with some old contacts before we leave, can you stay out of trouble while I'm busy?"
"Sure thing sis."
>She walks away with a rather somber expression.
>What's got her all wrapped up? She's not usually such a stick in the mud.
>Anyhow, sis is the leader of a local group of mercenaries called the "Cherry Mercenaries".
>Cherry of course is a rather cute name for the blood red venom that Chela excretes on her blade during battle.
>You wish your "fangs" would awaken soon so you could poison your enemies as well. Alas you're something of a late bloomer.
>Another reason big sis insists on babying you.
>Something you're really not fond of.
>Anyhow, you're feeling awfully hungry.

>You decide to head to the street vendors.
>You walk up to the food vendor and exchange coin for a honey biscuit and some jerky.
>You then go to peruse the weapons.
>You peer over the weapons they have.
"You got any with a built in venom chamber?"
>The shopkeep gives you a confused look.
>"Built in? Well no but.."
"Ah dang, that's such a shame."
>He chuckles.
"I thought most Faloconians hated venom based weaponry. What with the B.V.S.D raids and all."
>You sigh showing him the snake neck tattoo indicative of any Vieperian.
"First of all, I'm not a Faloconian, I'm a Vieperian. Secondly, it was the rebellions at Valis which caused the attack to happen. The Faloconians brought it on themselves for opposing the Black Venom Death Squads at the time."
>He sighs.
>"I'm not gonna argue politics with you, I'm a Boarian, we were allies in the wars remember?"
>You spy the boar shaped tattoo on his neck.
>"Still, your light hair, I mean, it's an easy mistake-"
"I don't have the dark colored hair of most Vieperians. My sister has dark hair though. Honestly me and sis never knew our parents, for all I know, maybe there is some Faloconian ancestry in our blood."
>You bite into your honey muffin.
>"I wouldn't say that you're a Vieperian too loudly around here though honestly."
"The Faloconians still holding that grudge huh?"
>He gets real close leaning in.
>"It's more than them. It's Coalescence."
"Coalescence?"
>"The agents of Coalescence are said to be everywhere, in every faction."
"How? What is it?"
>"It has members of every group all working toward a common goal."
"Sounds shady."
>"I dunno, but their group is starting to turn heads. Maybe something will happen."

>I should get back to sis, I should tell her about Coalescence and ask what that is in greater detail

Your brutal accuracy rips through the beast's throat, its growl turning quickly into a gurgling yelp of pain and surprise. The noise shocks everyone but you and you don't waste time picking your targets. But, they are many and you are few. Despite your best efforts, the Ravens fall one by one. The tactics of the Fenrir are unusually good, better than basic tactical pack mentality of wolves.

You are running up a hill, trying to escape the abominable fog that has fallen over you when two figures meld through the fog in front of you (pic related).

The beast dwarfs all the others you have faced. You don't need your doctorate to know this is the alpha of the pack. For a moment there is silence, they stare each other down. The moment gives you a chance to think.

You'd need to get closer to pull off a reliable shot, but any closer you risk breaking the still that has fallen -- you don't want to distract the figure. Conversely, he seems to be outmatched and could use the help. Alternately, you could turn back and assist the remaining ravens with the Fenrir -- a battle they are currently losing.

What do you do?

>Stealthy approach the duo. (Roll 2d10)
>Try to get a shot off despite the distance. (Roll 3d10)
>Turn back and help the remaining Ravens.
>Write in.

You can make the shot, you know you can. You level the gun, exhale, and squeeze the trigger letting off a short burst blasting the things face with lead -- it grunts and sways. The warrior seizes the opportunity: a hand letting loose a bolt of fire which denotates with devastating effect.

It retreats back into the fog, which melts back into the ground as mysteriously as it came. The view behind you is sobering. Bandages have already been brought out, first aid is being applied but even on a cursory glance you can see many will not make it. Maybe if you had surgical tools. Maybe.

The warrior, who you now recognize as the head of the collum, Magnar Osklenn, nods at you as he runs past back to his men. Your skill in battle management allows you to quickly mentally eliminate those who will certainly die (+3 to assisting the most injured by not attempting to save the unsavable). You're left with three groups to help:

>Help the lightly injured
>Help the moderate injured
>Help the extensively injured but still salvageable.
In each of the above cases roll 3d10 and drop lowest. The difference between them in how high you have to roll. For every 2 above the DC, you will help/save an additional Raven.
>Simply Observe instead

[9 and a half hours remain.]

The cold mist in the air clings to your fatigues, causing them to stick to your skin. You dart behind some rocks, half an eye on your motion sensor, keeping to cover. The cold mist renders the hot figures of the Innies in front of you stark red in your thermal visor.

"Contacts, bearing 0, count 13," you report.

"Copy," comes the responses.

The Lizards slide into cover themselves - enough rocks have sloughed off the canyonsides to provide ample amounts - and check over the targets themselves.

"I see... 10 MA3s, 3 shotguns," says Nanco.

"I confirm," responds Aki.

"Alright, fresh meat, I want this quiet. These guys are probably just outrider sentries, but they pose a risk if they can get a warning off to their buddies. Fast. Each of you take 2, and, hmm, Yates, take 3. Show me what you've got, new kid," Nanco orders.

"Yessir, understood."

The Innies are lazing around like the untrained slobs they are; only a few of them even have a hand on their weapons. They chat and joke, generally milling around.

"Opening shot for Jackal," Nanco says.

You've been allotted the 3 shotgunners. How do you take them on?

About one week ago you suffered a terrible blow, the Hive's defenses were devastated, your numbers were abysmal, and your chances of survival null. On top of that a great force came and attacked your home. It reached all the way to your inner sanctum, your precious throne room and by a miracle was this seemingly unstoppable enemy brought down mere meters away from your presence. You had lost so much that there be few that find fault if you descended into madness and despair. But this is not who you are, you are so much more than that.

The Hive will endure! You had your thinkers start to take apart and examine the enemy, and while that was going on with the few workers you had left reconstruction and fortification became a priority. Then growing out the farm and manning it, having more miners out there, metal was now in high demand. It was no longer a simple necessity, but a life or death situation. Weapons, fortifications, doors, walls, traps, technology, you NEED metal. Over the course of a grueling 72 hours you kept watch, closely, but nothing major approached the Hive.

It seemed that the attack was a one of sort of deal, but that made no sense, had it been triggered by your first brood? Was that it? At any rate the numbers started to come, by not leaving the hive and concentrating on growing it, you amassed a good number of soldiers and workers. Albeit your workers were not capable of leaving the hive these were not meant for the eternal winter raging outside. And you needed the nutrients early on, so they were the best investment at the time. However, while you have derived a new soldier. The Heavy Winter Soldier, armored in chitin plates just like the enemy, stacked like scales, but with four arms all directly storing internal slug throwers, and capable of its own ammo manufacturing. You've dubbed them Queen's Guard. But for the moment only four of them.

There is something disturbing, this creature, this enemy that attacked you is most certainly the product of a queen. It has the proper genetic markers, its DNA is a match. However it lacks a command structure, a primitive sort of animal brain is distributed along a redundant nervous system. But It is incapable of accepting or rather it cannot receive the commands of a thinker or a queen. It lacks the proper mental capacity to be little more than a rabid animal with heightened aggression. Worse yet, it is capable of asexual reproduction, but only of its own caste. This is a nightmare, an abomination that should not exist. However, upon closer examination your thinkers found a genetic countdown clock. It is a sort of halt order, in which this creature can only lay a certain numbers eggs and it passes on a smaller reproductive clock down. From the looks of things, it seems in 37 generations it will be unable to lay more eggs.

This is a weapon, to consume nutrients and copy itself with no regards to wildlife, to ecosystem. And in a certain number of generations stop and then die out. Insidious, and most horrendous.
