Opinions on Stephen Fry?
I started this book thinking it'd be insightful slice of life stuff but I cringed through the entire last four chapters, ashamed I suspended my disbelief for that fucking ending.
Are his other books as bad?
Is he, dare I say it, a fat fucking faggot?
>>9388180
Okay, let me try that again,
What the fuck?? I sit my ass through this entire fucking thing and he ends it like that?
>Dude we were lying about lying about lying lmao
I can't unsee his fat fucking nose anymore, and even the bits where he was being genuinely thoughtful feel dirty and cheap, like the true lie was that Stephen Fry could even fucking write, ever felt anything he described. What a fat Jewish fuck. And seeing all those other covers at the back I see why they're made to look like the same series even though they're not, because the thing they have in common is their pretense to jew you out of your money. No fucking wonder this shit was donated to a charity. I'll do one better and burn the fucking pile of shit
im guessing your a discarded bumboy from the buthurt you are experiencing
He's book on poetry was okay, althrough his prose reads like a lengthy reddit post
why does irony so popular and why does people think that this is worthy way to express oneself?
Irony itself isn't too bad, but the countless "like if your irony is so ADVANCED people think you are achually stupid" posts on normiebook makes me want to drink bleach.
>>9388049
Irony gives several outs, some take the answer literally and others figuratively through sarcastic comedy so it's a form used to make the source of irony look smart in ways while being aloof and appealing to absurdity. Irony can actually hurt some sensiblities which don't perceive the range of implied meaning or depth, for instance one can tell the truth ironically but it doesn't have the intrinsic quality of being straight forward which makes it a derived form of truth through irony. Truth being straight forward is a conventional form of truth, so irony may disturb this notion of conveying meaning in direct manner while adding some diffuse tainted flavor to the message by interpreting the ironic nature of the source. The fact remains that lessons are always learned and getting the right message through your own interpretation of what's conveyed by the originator is what matters, whether in an ironic or straight-forward intent. In ther words, isn't it ironic that irony can be good?

Thank you for that insightful blather.
>tfw greentexting accidentally makes you a superb writer
this ever been discussed? greentexting forces you to be concise and boil down your text to only the most essential elements of the story. honestly, is there any better writing exercise than greentexting?
>>9387963
>tfw arguing with total strangers is underrated to improve storytelling
>implying you understand implications and how they help dissecting plots
anyway
>be me
>on 4chins since 2003
>english is not your native language
>you literally learn the language through memes and shitposting
>you learn broken english after a while
>write on 4chins anyway
>your writing gets better
>your english gets better as you expand your vocabulary
>you graduate from shitposting and memes to rants and insults
>wtf I can argue with total strangers on the internetz now
>you keep getting better
>you now write pasta
>your pasta is passed on by other anons
>tfw you've been on 4chins 14 years and what you wrote was read by a lot of people now
Some writers weren't read as much as some anons around here OP
>>9387963
Shut the fuck up
>>9388965
6/10, lacks substance
Crime and Punishment is his best work, right?
In my opinion, yes. Others will disagree, which is fine, because that's how life works.
Tell me what you liked about it.
>>9387948
No. Do your own homework, queer.
The more I read, the more I realize how stupid I am, and it makes me depressed. Why just not to stay stupid, and ignorant?
>>9387830
Because stupidity and ignorance is only good if your life remains as good as it is now.
There's an excerpt from Orwell's Down and Out in Paris and London where Orwell describes a hobo he happens to be traveling with being like a dog who experiences pain and has no way to divert his mind from it. On the other hand Orwell, who was dead broke, was able to create a fortress of the mind to bear through it.
>>9387830
>realizing your stupid means you're actually smart
i know you're baiting for this kind of response but tell us specifically what you read that made you realize that you're stupid?
>>9387871
>realizing your stupid means you're actually smart
No, it means that you're stupid. Not every post is "le ebic bait xD".
Why did no one tell me how good this was?
>>9387818
But I did
Favourite stories?
>>9387836
Hard to say, but An Encounter, A Painful Case and Ivy Day in the Committee Room.
I'm taking a break right now. I still have the last two to read.
>>9387872
A Painful Case is 10/10 for me aswell
The Dead is a phenomenal closing and probably one of the best short stories ever written
What kind of anime do you use as inspiration for your writing?
sora no woto
>>9387750
Unironically Naruto, Sasuke is a great character to study.
Shoujo
Was George Orwell wrong about his thoughts on Tea?
Why are you spamming all these autistic anime threads?
Don't you have anything better to do?
I have not been spamming.
And yea, but I am not a clever man, so I made this image and felt the urge to share it with /lit/...
Orwell is right but not so much for flavour reasons
What does /lit/ think of Cicero?
>>9387673
He's tremendous. The greatest of all the political figures Rome produced. And a beautiful Latin stylist.
Absolute pleb. Worshiped by other plebs.
>>9387673
Great Orator, one of the best, up there with Caesar and Jesus.
>The meaning of any text is undecidable.
Thoughts?
what did he mean by this?
I don't know, I'm unable to decide what your text means, and therefore have no adequate answer.
>>9387670
Depends who you are writing for.
What would Socrates think of the type of irony used here on 4chan?
If Socrates knew about contemporary times he would not be the same Socrates so your question is invalid
Too big to fail.
Childish.
Hey /lit/
this is my first time on your board.
I am a pleb.
I want to get into reading and lit and change my ways.
I would love if you guys would help me out and give me a recommended book list, or infographic or something.
I've just finished Dune, and going to move onto Children and Emperor soon.
But apart from Dune, is there any other books that are must reads?
Most "must read" book lists seem really normie to me, so your input would be very much appreciated.
>>9387581
Have you tried reading the fucking sticky?
>>9387588
Yes, I've read all of those normie books on the starter kit, and I don't really have an interest in the greek mythos.
>>9387581
Which of those books do you consider normie and beneath you? There's no way to recommend until you clarify.
>be me
>get into reading
>buy shitloads of books
>realise books are expensive in large quantities
>want to get ereader to save money
>but books on shelf look so cool
>>9387542
same desu
>>9387542
Physical books appeal to me more than ebooks despite ebooks being cheaper and more economical in terms of space.
Use an e-reader and only buy physical books you like/wouldn't mind re-reading someday.
What do you think, /lit/? Not bad, eh?
Having random bursts of reading excitement isn't all that great.
Instead, You should try to read a constant number of pages every day.
>>9387499
Those are page reads of my books by other people, not pages I've read. The red line at the top signifies paid eReader/Kindle sales.
>>9387526
Honestly, that's pretty sweet. I hope it keeps going well for you, anon. Maybe it'll catch fire. I hope it does.
Keep up the good work. And congrats.
Is my man Tommy P really as pretentious as critics say? I always thought he was just a smart guy who liked having fun with words, but all the reviews and essays about his books make it seem like he's always got this agenda behind everything he writes, and that I'm some kind of moron for taking it all at face value instead of seeing what they see.
Every writer has an agenda. You just have to figure out if you agree or not.
>>9387420
>my man tommy P
Thomas, stop browsing 4chan. It isn't good for you.
Tell Jackson to stop as well. Coming here is worse than Slothrop going down the toilet.
Why is having an agenda pretentious
