Doesn't matter. The USA is the torchbearer of the Roman Empire and its spirit.
>>
>>3072059
You mean the roman republic?
Even then the roman republic was an olgiarchic democracy in the most basic sense of the word, if you're a citizen of the USA you can vote, in rome it was heriditary (as in, there were roman citizens with no voting rights)
That's not preserving the spirit at all, it's creating something new (and better) on the back of history.

From what I recall:
Cromwell
Feudal lords owning land in Ireland, whilst they live in England.
Northern Ireland is not "Irish"
Catholicism vs Anglican Church
Various "ignored" attempts to become self ruling, similar to Australia and Canada.
etc etc

>Small irish rebellion
>Seriously overbearing crackdown post small rebellion
>increasing calls for homerule due to this crackdown
>refferendum is called to create an irish free state (after a group called the ira ran a guerrilla campaign)
>pretty much all the parts ofireland bar ulster want to become psudeo independent as a dominion (highest level of autonomy under the British empire)
>after this development there was a civil war between those wanting full independence and those in favour of dominion status
>full independence side loses and forms their own political party, who attain power in the 1930's, and start cutting some ties (such as judicial ties, etc
>government writes a copnsitution declaring themselves as free an independent
>this was not factually true untill the irish government passed an act in 1948 essentially saying "We're leaving now k bye"
>act passes
>ulster doesn't want to be part of the independent republic
>they're not
>eventually later in the 70's some people are mad about this and start trying to do another similar guerilla campaign, they once again call themselves the ira
>eventually a settlement is agreed to keep the peace where northern ireland has a system where the pro british and pro seccesionists share power
>troubles are now arising due to the brexit process, which could lead to a hard border in the country, stoking up troubles
That's the history of the acutal conflict, but in a more general sense:
The british were somewhat inept, allowing many irishmen to starve in a large famine that seriously damaged ireland's health
The crackdown post 1916
The view of some irishmen that Ulster is a dejure part of Ireland
The differences in the British and irish forms of government and how the two countries approach democracy, ie the british have a crown
General culture clash
If you want a bit of a "where are they now" thing:
The IRA are basically irrelevant, everyone from 1916 is dead and recently some key people in the 70'saredying

Very difficult to be able to train them to accept a rider and then charge off into battle in a controllable fashion.

You've seen cattle stampedes throughout military history, just aiming a herd of cows in the general direction of the enemy and hoping for the best, but even that's a tactic that lacks finesse.
>>
I imagine even if you managed to train them all like >>3071722 said they would still be too slow with a rider and all on them. You'd be surrounded by pikemen. That's just speculation on my part though.

Holy shit /his/ i just realized something

During the crucifixion of Jesus
(Jesus Christ and Jesus barabbas)

i just knew that Barabbas isn't a proper noun, it's Aramaic for son of the the father

and Jesus Christ (Christ, messiah, anointed, same meaning NOTICE that the bible calls other anointeds but calls Jesus "Christ" despite them being synonyms)
(Also there are many people who were 'anointed' during that time, anointed means blessed or proteced)

TLDR is Jesus Barabbas the real Jesus?
42 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
So... Jesus dipped out... so none of us are saved.

But presumably Jesus Barabus is still alive. We need to locate him and crucify him to get saved.
>>
This means all mankind was supposed to be saved but by freeing the true Messiah the Jews kept their exclusive covenant unbroken and salvation for Gentiles was never brought forward.

There are some decent ideas that they came from the Aegean, or Italy or Libya or even were refugees from Anatolia, possibly some mix of them. Some say this very early event influenced the trojan war epic (from the greeks side of events)

But anyone who tells you they are definitely X race are full of shit.

Alright guys, I need a quick rundown on the what the Byzantine Empire was, and what was the reason for them asking Pope urban the 2nd for help retaking Jerusalem. Thanks.
15 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>3071071
The Byzantine Empire was the eastern Roman Empire.

They didn't ask for help retaking Jerusalem, they wanted help to reconquer Anatolia from the Turks who had invaded during the period of imperial weakness after the disaster at Manzikert, but the Latins thought that was boring and wouldn't budge unless it was fighting for Jerusalem.
>>
>>3071095
Alright thanks.
>>
>>3071127
>>3071095
Well, yes and no.

The Empire had dealt with some issues from Latins (Norman invaders), but those were beaten off.

Economy was growing, thanks for the trade advantages given to Venetians and others (helped mobilise the agricultural economy).

Empire was on the rebound. Went to western Europe, tried to get the Pope to put out something about helping them as mercs being holy. Joked about 'hey, if we keep going, we might reach the Holy city'.

The Pope then did a 'YOU ALL GOTTA CRUSADE BOIS'

And then massive unwashed waves of latins started pouring into the empire

Why is this guy called the first Emperor of China, and the Dynasty he founded the first Unified Chinese dynasty, when you have shit like the Zhou, Shang, and the Xia (who may or may have not existed) before him?

The title "Emperor of China" refers to Huángdì

>During the Zhou dynasty, Chinese feudal rulers with power over their particular fiefdoms were called gong (公) but, as the power of the Shang and Zhou kings (王, OC*Gʷaŋ,[2] mod.wang) waned, the dukes began to usurp that title for themselves.

>In 221 BC, after the then-king of Qin completed the conquest of the various kingdoms of the Warring States period, he adopted a new title to reflect his prestige as a ruler greater than the rulers before him. He called himself Shi Huangdi, the First Emperor. Before this, Huang (皇) and Di (帝) were the nominal "titles" of eight rulers of Chinese mythology or prehistory: The three Huang (皇, OC*Gʷˤaŋ, "august, sovereign") were godly rulers credited with feats like ordering the sky and forming the first humans out of clay; the five Di (帝, OC*tˤeks, also often translated "emperor" but also meaning "the God of Heaven"[4]) were cultural heroes credited with the invention of agriculture, clothing, astrology, music, etc. In the 3rd century BC, the two titles had not previously been used together. Because of the god-like powers of the Huang, the cult worship of the Di, and the latter's use in the name of the God of Heaven Shangdi, however, the First Emperor's title would have been understood as implying "The Holy" or "Divine Emperor". On that account, some modern scholars translate the title as "thearch".[3]
>>
Because the zhou shang and xia dynastys have barely anything tangible in regards to written records that aren't fucking mythological fanfics about how "Shangdi" blessed the emperor to live a thousand years etc. also 99% of the shang and xia dynasties history is completely made up Xia is garden of Eden level bullshitery
>>
Before him, China is under a feudalism system with a "true" king and many other lords controlling different autonomous regions. In fact, he forefathers all served the King of Zhou. However, when the royal family grew weak, the lords began to fight each other for more controls. He was the one that ended hundreds of years of war and conflict, defeating 6 other nations within his lifetime, and unified China under one banner for the first time. He named himself the first emperor of China, and set example for all the emperors after him, that unifying China is the fundamental requirement of becoming one. You can say he is the main reason China is able to exist as a continuous nation for these many years.

>spend a couple more years single-handedly fighting and beating the Germans until your allies help you
>take Berlin and win the war
>realize that despite all odds, your resolve and ingenuity stopped one of the best armies in the world, despite everyone saying you couldn't do it

the universe became nothing but a mechanical thing to observe..

Newton reduced the universe to an equation, Einstein later as well

it destroyed all mystery..

The Native Americans and other indegenous groups with their knowledge systems and mythologies had the right idea, they let the universe be something that is too complex to be described by mathematics

As Rome was fairly cosmopolitan and arguably somewhat multicultural towards it's latter stages, were there many famous or significant people within the Roman empire who weren't Italian or from the Mediterranean/horn of Africa? Particularly interested in Gauls or other Northern Europeans
