I currently have 4x 4GB G.Skill Sniper 1600 MHz sticks...

Should I upgrade to 4x 8GB sticks at 1600 MHz @ 9-9-9-24 timings, or 2400 MHz @ 11-13-13-31?

For reference, my CPU is an i7 3770. I've read that with this CPU I may be able to get memory voltage to ~2133, but not 2400?

What matters more nowadays, frequency or timings? The price difference is pretty miniscule.

Mars. Cheap and werks

So I have some old computer parts that are not used for anything. I was thinking to build a machine running pfsense and use it in my homenetwork.
What are your thoughts on that? Is such a machine useless for just a home network? Anyone has any experience with pfsense?

pfsense is your router/firewall/DHCP/DNS machine, not your damn file server

where in my post did i say anything about a damn file server?

I don't see the point of creating a router when you have to buy a wireless AP anyways

First let me state that I'm not great with computers, I'm trying to learn more however.

Basically I want to play with some linux distros, but I'm not keen on splitting my hard drive's space.

I went ahead and created a live USB drive, but I can't figure out how to make one with persistence. There's also the issue with being limited to 4GB of storage to the drive.

Can I simply install linux onto another thumb drive or external drive and have it be treated as a normal install?

My plan is to just have a low profile UBS drive in one of my USB ports to boot off of when I want to run linux and play around with it, not be stuck with some annoying live usb that I can't save anything to and constantly be at rist of screwing up my windows partition because I'm an idiot and might let it install linux onto my hard drive while I'm drunk.

I use them from time to time, but to be honest, I'm clueless about how exactly ad revenue works and how blocking ads would prevent making money from it.

I have heard arguments from both sides, one claiming that they do, and the other saying, in short, that it's all bullshit: they don't actually lose anything, and this crusade is just to show you the ad. Since I don't have enough knowledge about the ad revenue business, I don't know what position to take at the moment.

Please motivate your answer and preferably cite sources supporting your claim

well if the requirement for the sites to get their pennies is that I either watch their ad videos or click their ads, no, they won't lose a penny from me using ublock origin

if they get a penny for me simply seeing their ad video for 5 seconds and skipping it or seeing that banner ad without clicking it, then yeah, they lose money from me

>>60099961
Yes, content creators lose more than half of their profit just because of adblock

Windows gives that error when you run low on free RAM and try to open a new program. It warns you that it will close the least recent program used, in your case FireFox.

Hey /g/, quick question - I'm in Uganda at the moment and currently downloading the Windows 10 Creators Update. Can anyone give me any idea just how large it is? Data is very expensive/slow here and on my current plan I'm limited to 500MB/day (meaning it's taking fucking ages)

Thanks in advance x

Smoking lots of cheap weed usually.

>>
>>60099560
More than 500MB, just stop it, you don't need that crap in the first place

Has anyone here read pic related?

Is it a good book / worth reading?

If not, what are some good books that teach good software design?

>1993
Written in a time when Windows was actually okay. I imagine that a lot of what's written in it is no longer applicable, or just flat-out obsolete. Could be worth a read just for fun, though.
>>
>>60098882
You should already know everything in this book. Really.

The problem with this book is that for a beginner, it doesn't really make sense as the concepts are a little advanced. By the time you are ready to be able to read it, you should already know and practice 99% of the concepts in the book

It's literally common sense
