Has anyone here read pic related?

Is it a good book / worth reading?

If not, what are some good books that teach good software design?

Written in a time when Windows was actually okay. I imagine that a lot of what's written in it is no longer applicable, or just flat-out obsolete. Could be worth a read just for fun, though.

You should already know everything in this book. Really.

The problem with this book is that for a beginner, it doesn't really make sense as the concepts are a little advanced. By the time you are ready to be able to read it, you should already know and practice 99% of the concepts in the book

It's literally common sense

2nd edition was published in 2004, I imagine core programming concepts haven't changed too much since then but maybe the information is somewhat obsolete.

Hmm.. it seems like a book written by someone who has been programming for their whole life is going to give me a lot more information that I can learn through trial and error in a few years though.

This actually seems really interesting and it looks like you can read the whole thing online for free too, I'll definitely check this out later.

A lot of programming books are basically scams filled with "common sense" stuff that you either already know, or has been repeated 1000 times before, in better textbooks.

There's a reason nobody actually reads "the mythical man-month" or "the pragmatic programmer", it's all stuff you've absorbed over the 30 years since they've been published.
>>
>>60099131
How do I find those "better textbooks" then?
>>

First edition is excellent and most of what he discusses is applicable today. It's a not a book filled with specific and dated code examples, but a book about design and architecture.

Good if you've been developing software less than 1-2 years otherwise what >>60098942 said
