Bought this Thinkpad T500 for $120 because a lot of people here were recommending it. But this thing is awful, it's so old and can barely handle watching videos in 720p.
Last time I take advice from /g/ ...
>>60093449
/g/ wants you to get memed. It's funny.
By the way, have you checked out the new Xiaomi Redmi?
>>60093552
>Xiaomi Redmi
No, Is it any good?
>>60093597
Yes, it's very good. Taking price and quality ratio into accout, it's probably the best phone money can buy you right now.
>your phone
>things you like about it
>things you hate about it
OnePlus 3
Good bang for the buck, speedy, premium build, good costum rom support
camera barely mediocre with stock rom, lineage makes it even worse
some dumb phone
has a metal gear codec ringtone
can't play princess maker 2 on dosbox
G flex 2
Like
Curve: ergonomic, fits in pants better, easy to hold, probably makes it more durable
Small bezels
Got it over a year ago for $200
Hasn't slowed down since I bought it
IR blaster
Dislike:
Att version still on 5.1
Screen is grainy at low brightness and lowest brightness is WAY too high
Battery life is shit, 2-3 hours sot on data over a day
Uses the g3 camera which is pretty bad nowadays
Overheats easily in summer and then won't allow you to use full brightness until phone cools down
Seems to be the only recent lg phone that doesn't boot loop (need to justify upgrading to myself)
Nexus 6
>Big screen
>AMOLED for night viewing
>Nice looking/feeling
>Got it on a good sale
>Charges pretty fast with bundled charger
>Took half a year to get 7.0 OTA push
>Still hasn't received 7.1 push
>7.2 never
>CPU starts throttling around 40ish% battery, slowing Pokemon Go to a crawl
>No support for Direct Boot, so if the phone reboots itself in the middle of the night, it gets stuck on the boot lockscreen, and your morning alarm won't ring
>No support for Trusted Voice, reducing OK Google's utility
>For a long time, always-on OK Google would keep turning itself off. This seems to be fixed, last I checked, but now I leave it off because it shares a volume control with games, which I usually want to keep quiet/off
/g/ keeps telling me to buy an old Thinkpad from four or five years ago. Sometimes even farther back than that?
Is this actually good advice? What's the downside?
Most recommend them because of nostalgic attachment to them. If they take care of them, they will last, like most tech.
>What's the downside?
You simply could get one that wasn't taken care of and will have much less time using it, versus getting a new laptop/computer. After five or so years, many laptops start shitting the bed. sometimes it's an easy fix like swapping harddrives. other issues can be problematic, like dying fans, dead components on the motherboard, pixels giving out, etc.
>>60091927
it's can be hard to find a decent one because of neckbeards, elitebook/latitude/precision are all fine
They're pretty good computers considering how cheap you can get them. Parts are abundant so repair is always possible and they're quite durable.
It's hard to find one that's not beat to shit or something, and the screens aren't incredible, but the keyboard is fantastic and you're not going to find better build quality on something so affordable.
They're also very well designed in my opinion, I really enjoy the aesthetic of Thinkpads.
>>60092010
I have literally no nostalgia associated with these computers. I was tired of paying good money for mediocre laptops with shit build quality. Thinkpads were the answer.
Where's everyone from old /g/ (2011 & earlier) gone?
modern /g/ is far too thirsty for bait
>>60091637
We're still here, but unlike you hyperactive faggots we don't bite.
>>60091653
you used to be able to hold a discussion here without shitflinging tho, it used to feel like a tighter knit community
Just look at the archives with the end date dec. 2011
>>60091774
I distinctly remember CPU threads on /g/ back in 2011 and even 2012. It was just some normal /g/entoomen discussing computer hardware.
Now, it's console war 2.0 crying wojacks. I hate what nu-4chan has become
Do you code in a black hoodie?
>>60091529
No, I code in your mom.
No I code in a dark green one
More like a hooded versace robe with the medusa emblazoned on it.
Fresh new setup edition
Post the place where you shitpost from and laugh at poorfags/teenagers living with their parents.
Hi all
What should I change up with my station?
>>60090557
Maybe get some ambient light behind your monitors other than that window? Like some LED strip lighting or something. Three screens of bright white light can't be good for your vision.
And not really part of your battlestation but consider putting something on the wall above that couch, it looks very empty compared to the other walls.
Pretty great setup otherwise though, especially given the small space.

Nice animu.
Can we for a minute talk about Linux/Windows and maybe even macOS customization?
Here's a guide with a list of software for Windows:

Useful tools:

Some Linux info:

Differences between Linux WMs:

Some MacOS tools:

what's the point of customization? just making everything worse and less uniform?

Most college courses are a joke starting out, it'll be years before you will do any cool shit and that goes for almost every subject

can you embed exploits in (a) printed page(s) of paper to be scanned?
depends
No. It scans the image/whatever is on the page. It doesn't execute anything on it. Its like taking a picture, nothing more.
"skiddy here" describes it perfectly. Research motherfucker, do it.
I guess the best you could do is embed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EURion_constellation
