So basically Nvidia will always be first-place but AMD will always be second-place but cheaper? And nobody gives a shit about third(VIA)? Just like Windows/Mac/linux?

The fuck is a VIA?
>>
>>60091853
Indiands are maybe inbred cancer but spanish HUE HUE morder es numero uno VIA is worse.

Amd is not always second place they just take longer to deliver, but yeah currently nvidia is like 2x stronger when vega comes nvidia will be 1.5x stronger

An infinite resource bottlenecked by telecoms refusal to upgrade their infrastructure while double dipping on government subsidies and and increasing customer costs for less or worse performance while maintaining regional strangleholds and monopoly

Some how needs to be in tiered costs. Because people use more 1s and 0s than other people.

How high can the clock speeds on consumer level processors get before desync becomes an issue? Ie: what's the maximum distance a signal has to travel inside a processor in a single clock cycle? I know that light itself in a vacuum travels about a foot in one billionth of a second (one clock cycle at 1ghz). So at 4ghz, light can travel 3 inches, and considering that electricity in a conductor doesn't travel as fast as light in a vacuum, it seems to me, being not very knowledgeable on this, that we're pretty close to desync becoming an issue on the highest clocked processors.

I'm just curious because quantum tunneling is going to be an issue in a few node shrinks, and we might not have a commercially viable alternative to silicon by the time we've reached the limits of silicon, so it seems natural to me that higher clock speeds would be how we squeeze every bit of performance out of silicon before we're done with it.

>>
Interesting question, but before electron speed becomes an issue we will be using photons instead
This already sort of exists but the tech still needs to advance to be miniaturized and mass-producable, look up optical processors
>>
The section of the CPU die that runs at the frequency you're talking about is unbelievably small, 3 inches is a pretty ridiculous number to pull out of your ass
But yes the limit isn't far, that's why multicore will be important and why die shrinks are still relevant
There's a reason why we're not using 8GHz celerons though, speed isn't the only way to squeeze performance out of silicon
>>
>>60092004
Obviously speed isn't the only way to increase performance, but it is a way to increase performance when traditional methods of doing so are becoming harder and we don't have a commercially viable alternative yet.

I used a Macbook Pro back in college. However, I've used a Windows PC for my daily driving, and gaming. So, I have recently gotten a job that is forcing back into the Mac ecosystem.

Employer-kun gave me a choice between a 2015 MBPr, and a 2016 MBP with Touch Bar. I decided to go to Best Buy to get a feel for both machines before I gave my answer.

Firstly, WHAT THE FLYING FUCK? I am triggered as hell! Their Macbook, with the first iteration of the butterfly switch doesn't give any feeling of having pressed the button. Their 2016 MBP with TB, with the second iteration of the butterfly switch is slightly better, but it's not usable for any prolonged period.

Needless to say, I am taking the 2015 MBPr for work, but seriously wtf was Johnny Ives, or Tim Cook smoking when they decided to implement this horrid butterfly switch?

Who knows I don't know how people can defend it. MacBooks now have the worst keyboard I have ever used the old regular chiclet keys were better than the shit they have now. The GOAT was the keyboard they had on the early macbooks and powerbooks before they made them chiclet in like 2009.

Don't think of it as a mac. Think of it as a portble BSD Unix workstation with custom GUI and integrated device drivers. Use the terminal as often as you can. And plug in a mouse.

whether it's PDFs or Ebooks or html files in the case of some electrical-grid-destroying event. Of course, i'd need some type of generator or green power source. The device itself could be an ereader, although I'm wondering if there is some obscure better option. I found this interesting link: http://the-knowledge.org/en-gb/apocalypse-proof-kindle/

Any virus scanners that don't try to force you into paying for something you don't need, don't run in the background, and don't give annoying popups? I just need something to scan the occasional program I download to be sure it isn't malware.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Your premises are made up but your conclusions are correct
>>
Visual Studio is the best IDE where it's applicable, and most people who hate it just hate anything made by Microsoft, no matter how good.
Windows 10 is decent, but comes with its own share of problems (the main one being telemetry).
>>
Well you can trust me when I say that it's "who should," not "whom should."

Otherwise you're basically correct. The opinions here make no consideration for the feelings and experiences of other people. It long ago became a cave for people to come with their soapboxes and loudly announce their irrelevant biases.

Has anyone ever experienced this, I'm almost a bit weirded out by whats going on..

Desktop pc with monitor, no sound devices plugged in or anything. I go on firefox or even chrome and some webpages (seemingly random- no link between them) I can hear a really high pitch quiet buzzing nice coming from my monitor, I switch tabs it goes, switch back it starts again. Heres the thing though, I've tried different monitors and they all do the same thing with maybe a slightly different pitch. And I can definitley hear its coming from them and not my pc.

So whats all this about then?
