Picking up with the second official arc on Bendis' Ultimate Comics Spider-Man. I need someone to clarify where Bendis' series Spider-Men goes because it takes place after his uncle dies and before he gets his webshooters so the only logical place I can put it is after #12 (which is still iffy because Bendis fucked up continuity like no tomorrow). Please help me out with this. Prior Spidey threads are below.

Originally I was upset the artist switched but now that I'm older, I adore Samnee's run on the hero. His work on the first Superman Adventures webcomic was astounding.
>>
>>94492461
OP, What kind of comic were you making?

That webshooter thing will bother me until the ends of earth. How did no one see the contradiction?

It's my thoughts on superheros as a whole (big surprise). I realize pushing superheroes isn't really in huge demand so I'm working on a short 4 issue sci-fi story to get my foot in the door if capes don't work. The superhero epic is going to be a massive undertaking and I'm still working on my series bible and it sucks...........

I've pumped out 5 good scripts and 8 so so scripts for the hero epic, but then I realized I have to get the plot 100% settled before continuing to progress because it's going to be pretty continuity heavy. Actually writing characters and events with a degree of consistency/growth is so much harder than I thought it was going to be. Also writing characters with distinct voices is a pain because all my friends that have read my issues say, "I can tell you wrote it.".

Spider-Men takes place after issue #12. Ignore the continuity mistake

>>94492651
Shit. Got cut off. Damn you autopost.

The series is gonna be broken up into 8 issue "seasons" with each season broken into 2 halves, and each half composed of 2 issue arcs. Every season is going to be my thesis on a classic superhero tropes (for example, the alternate universe setting). Here's where I'm probably gonna lose people, I've taken a heavy influence from Mark Millar when it comes to pushing superpowers to the absolute limit. Powers in my comic aren't overly extravagant like Marvel comics, instead powers are going to be fast/mean and only be flashy when necessary. Lastly, this story is about people that just happen to have powers. At the heart of this entire series is flawed human characters trying their best to make the world a better place when it isn't even established they can take care of themselves. Happy endings and redemption arcs to be treasured and by no means the norm.

If I ever get the scripts finished and can be paired with a penciler, inker, letterer, and cover artist I'm going to post that shit online the second I get the crb/cbz file. My attitude is read it first and if you like it, buy a copy and if you hated it, cool beans. Pirate ahoy. I'm largely making this for two reasons.
1. To present my thoughts on superheroes and how they've chanced since their initial inception. I'm not trying to be dark for the sake of dark, I just want to do "my thing" with them.
2. I want to give back to the community and comic universe at large because I've downloaded a treasure trove of comics and I want to present something out there that at least someone will enjoy.

For my Philosophy minor thesis paper I wrote 486 pages single-spaced...it was a "bible" for a comic universe...it took three years which totally delayed me getting my diploma even though I walked the stage when I was supposed to...the "paper" was so drug-influenced but still managed to hash out Kafka/existentialism/postmodernism that was my thesis topic...cyberpunk antiheroes and NWO and stream-of-consciousness fueled mostly by heroin, bourbon, LSD and sometimes cocaine...not a fan of uppers. The jaw-drop of my prof when I showed up out of the blue with that monstrosity was priceless. He had the nerve to ask for a Cliff Notes version. I wrote a second volume and started a third only I lost it to a computer crash.
>>
>>94494436
It's baffling how the MCU police are shoot first, ask questions never. This is a trope that has played itself into the ground and honestly quite embarassing. For once I just want a competent police force.

>>94494600
That sounds fucking god tier. How many different sections did you have in your bible? Right now I'm rockin a universe mantra page, a power description page, detailed character descriptions which incorporate personality/appearance and everything in-between, a set of stories that advance plot, and a set of stories that are just filler. Also, mine was also severely influenced by multiple substances with everything but uppers (weed, alcohol, and LSD predominately) and mild use of opiates (I just get sleepy). I'm actually clean right now and it's fascinating to see what shit I cranked out when I myself was cranked out.

It was nothing like the good work you're doing...I just created a universe and my "paper" and subsequent volumes dealt with a small corner...the idea was to create a framework so others could expand. I'd sprout an idea and write on it for a bit and just go on...it was so very stream-of-consciousness. The second volume was more coherent as I'd kicked the drugs but kept on drinking (it was very Bukowski set in space). The whole she-bang didn't give a history, it just threw you into it. The provost emailed me last year about it (she was the faculty head of the college rag and I was A&E editor) but I told her I loved her and she could keep it.

>It was nothing like the good work you're doing...
Don't count yourself out. I bet there's some straight up gold in there.even if you don't quite think so. Authors tend to be the hardest critics on their own work so if something is considered passable in your eyes, I bet it's way better than you think, strict organization be damned. Also stream of consciousness writing is weird. The finished product tends be me sporadic and unpolished initially but a storm of creative writing. I wrote my entire story in teh span of a week and it's taken a long while to refine that artistic exercise. I bet good money there's probably some character/setting description in your work that would rock our socks off.

This series isn't going to 100% fit chronologically with Bendis' prior title but I blame him. Also at one point Marvel Execs said that if they ever had a crossover with Ultimate and 616 it would mean they were creatively bankrupt and the fact they did it without any jest just makes me feel confident in my own writing. I enjoy this story, but goddamn Marvel needs to get their shit together.

Thanks, but no...that's why I spin records behind a sheet...the whole "paper" and everything after is way too autobiographical (except for the outerspace parts and the superpowers...I had to disguise the truth, yeah). My college life was WAY WAY WAY beyond...the provost remarked about how much I got away with and still got my (worthless) degree. I would disappear from campus for weeks and get away with it. Nomad college kid spinning records and living in the underground while "attending" a Christian college...it was a crazy time. Gods only knows what would have happened if then was 2012...

Clearly, I mean he took out the Tinkerer...who may admittedly be discount stark, but a lot of guys rely on him for toys, powers, and maintenance. And Prowler just killed him.

KK. I feel ya man. Just sayin if you ever want someone to look over and provide some helpful critcism I can do that. I've been told I'm my University's best writer they've ever seen but I don't know how much of that is genuine praise/bullshit. I love seeing/reading what other /co/mrades come up with because it allows me to see what others think of the base source material. But if it's too autobiographical to judge, I totally get that. My first draft was WAAAAAAYYYY to personal and it required multiple drafts worth of revisions to get it to something I could show others.

I like the uppercase, it's iconic plus really gives that umph while reading.

When it was used in conjunction with 616 vs. Ult. that was a great detail.

In a non-cape comic, I'd understand not using all uppercase; you'd only use it to emphasize

Yep to everything you said. It's one of the reasons I despised the Homecoming movie and everyone shits on me for my opinion. I think they are either Sony shills or they simply don't read enough comics. I'm not saying Homecoming was a poorly constructed movie, but it didn't feel like a Peter movie until the very end with his confrontation with Vulture (which was god tier and the best MCU villain hads down, dude felt like a legitimate thread and could have eaten Falcon)

2 years can make a big difference at that age. Just look at how much older Miles looks now (16) than when he did here. I'd post a picture from Spider-men II for comparisons sake were it not for the storytime, but suffice it to say, he looks significantly older from just a few years. Puberty is a helluva drug.

Spider-man is one of the few characters Bendis just nails. He was also enjoyable in his New Avengers run as well.

One of Bendis big writing problems is he will have character criticize or make a joke about the plot but he still has his characters do the same dumb shit they say is shit.

I'm personally more than okay with Mysterio being this multiversal threat. I'd say Mysterio bumped himself up multiple notches on the Spidey Rogue hierarchy because of his meddling in the ultimate universe. He seems like he upped his game in every way imaginiable as well as becoming much more lethal because the Spider-Man he's dealing with isn't "his" Spider-Man because he simply doesn't know his capabilties. I don't love verything Bendis has done, but this caught me off guard in the greatest way possible.

It's probably because he's using a "dummy."

Meaning to or not, people always hold back when their personal safety is on the line. Sure, they might be able to hit twenty guys with a grenade and save themselves, but there's a good chance they'll till get hit by that grenade too. Sure you could deck this guy if you throw an all out punch, but if you miss then your ass is grass. People always hesitate because of self preservation.

But put someone in a situation like a video game where they're at absolutely no risk, and all the hesitation goes away. Mysterio faces absolutely no threat of harm for his actions in Ulitmates, which means he can pull of stunts and plans and attacks that could normally end in injury or death without fear. And that makes him that much more dangerous, and thus competent.

Gave a it a look through a year ago and I gotta say, it was stupid. Half the shit in the book was either common sense or specifically aimed at marketing/presenting the book when it was finished, but all that is moot if you don't actually have a finished draft (which is the most important part of writing. Actually cranking out a script). I 100% feel like I could have written a better writing for comics book than the shit Bendis pumped out. I've read Bendis' scripts he gives to his artists so I'm not just talking out my ass. His script was for the series "Powers" and I can confidently say they are less detailed//thought out than the scripts I use for my comic. He uses the full script format in the vaguest sense possible and is in dire need of an editor because he is incapable of tearing his own work a new one.

I like to believe Mysterio was fucking around and discovered it by accident. Afterward, he devised a way for him to run the Ultimate universe with minimal risk to himself. The fact that he straight up murdered Ultimate Kingpin made me as giddy as a school girl. He never would have pulled that in 616 but since he was merely controlling an avatar, he went for it and reaped the rewards.

I love that Mysterio is talking in all caps. I think I'm still gonna keep my lettering to be a combo of upper and lowercase for two reasons.
1. I really like the feel of upper and lowercase and other comics than Ultimate do it (Runaways, Moon Knight by Ellis, and I believe Nextwave and Supercrooks also implement it.
2. I'm not going to go back and change all the dialog I've already written. I think it feels solid as is.

Fury, shut up. No one is listening to you. You're the reason Peter died. You could have had a Goblin protocol in place so when Norman escapes you could have warned the Parkers. Even Carol should have had a protocl like that because you know Norman is just going to escape because you retards are determined to keep him around. Also Miles doesn't need to worry about "earning" the title. Stop trying to make it all about you. If Miles makes mistakes he makes mistakes. That's kinda what Spider-Man is all about. Making colossal fuckups and learning from them so he can be a better Spider-Man. You tried to depower Peter because you didn't approve of him being a vigilante (also because he punched off your eye-patch because you suck), so stop pretending you care about Miles and Peter's "legacy" because you certainly don't regardless of the shit that comes outta your mouth. Also tell Jess to fuck off. Miles is literally older than her and education via in-utero doesn't make up for real life experience (regardess of what she says). She is a mockery of everything Peter Parker is and was literally made by one of his enemies and making her one of your cronies doesn't make it right. In summary, step on a landmine Fury. You'll get a swift death and we'll get a show.

It seems fair he knows 616 Spider-man's secret identity, killed people and caused a lot of trouble in their universe and he doesn't know who Miles is so he can't use that against him and I'm certain if he was allowed to return to the 616 world he'd cause more trouble with the knowledge he gained especially on Pete.

I think it's more the emotional justification for May, to know the sort of man Pete would have grown up to become.

>Miles and Peter's biggest enemies at this point
>and Hammerhead
Why... why does Bendis seem to have such a fascination with Hammerhead?
>>
>>94494164
I don't know why but this set of panels made me chuckle.

You aren't alone anon.
Honestly this looks like Miles just hit a blunt

>all those "not you!!!"
This displays one of the flaws that Bendis keeps making. Ironically, this is the way how the human mind works. He subconsciously remembers using certain words before and by following the path of "least" resistance we have several issues where everyone is using the same vocabulary, the same intonation and the same reaction.

I think we had at least 3 villians in a row now who behaved exactly the same that you'd think they where a hive mind.

Its not even a difficult problem to resolve if he had reread his previous issue and noticed "Oh! Wow! I'm repeating myself! I'll just change the sentence structure and use a few different words in context and it'll be fine."

It just feels like he's struggling with an issue that OCD teenagers have while writing an essay and doesn't want to review his previous work to find the things that feel wrong when he's done. It just looks sloppy for something that would otherwise be good work.

I guess, in retrospect, this makes him perfect to write teenagers but not other characters.

Wow, Miles actually has his own characters and villains!

So why does the mom freak out over costumed heroes now?
>>
>>94498879
You probably should've done this story AFTER Miles met Gwen and May lol.

Kitty should've been in Spider Men.

MJ, forever being a spazz
>>
>>94499097
Wow Peter's death really broke MJ. Does she ever return to normal or does she stay a spazzy goth?

Spider-Bump for readers...FUCK BENDIS...bump
>>
>>94494600
that... sounds like complete shit. to be more accurate it sounds like you were just fucking around with a kitchen sink full of ideas while getting high then decided to turn it in hoping that your prof would read the first 14ish pages and slap a passing grade on it so he didn't have to listen to your bitching.

She stays spazzy until Peter comes back.

venom blast is the least defined bullshit power I have seen in some time.

it cant be electricity, because it affects people spewing lighting everywhere.

but it travels through any medium whether that medium is conductive or not.

its a spider power, but peter fucking parker isnt immune or resistant to it.

it affects inaninate objects and people so it isnt nerve related.

its just bullshit.

Bump
Just started reading, looking at the old threads replies. I'm really enjoying the original run, and the issue with Ock on the plane with Peter was my first Spider-Man comic I've realized. Good stuff.
