In my opinion Antarctica threads are always very interesting, so let's have one.
Let's start with an infamous screencap.
how could a settlement create electricity and/or heat without the use of generators/wood?
>>18979127
Solar power or geothermal power should work nicely.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geothermal_power_in_Iceland
>>18979132
thanks.
is geothermal possible in Antarctica ?
how deep does the drilling need to be to reach boiling point of water?
What does /x/ think about the Nazi map leading to the inner earth? It comes from soviet intelligence service SMERSH and was declassified some years ago (google smersh merkulow antarctica)
bump
test, getting connection errors
>>18979168
we read you loud and clear, lieutenant.
>>18979168
Weird, some word in my post seemed to trigger some kind of filter.
>>18979142
>Binary cycle power stations are the most recent development, and can accept fluid temperatures as low as 57 °C.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geothermal_power
Interestingly a large part of Antarctica is still unclaimed and it's getting warmer.
Anyone ever noticed how Antarctica looks like a womb and the tail looks like an umbilical cord?
>>18979171
>Away from tectonic plate boundaries the geothermal gradient is 25–30 °C per kilometre (km) of depth in most of the world, and wells would have to be several kilometres deep to permit electricity generation.
>>18979175
Geothermal energy could be an option, and those parts are not unclaimed, everything it's claimed but almost no claim has legal standing.
>>18979180
>>18979175
Well, that was weird. Combining both posts wasn't possible, as I always got a conection error.
Anyways, I'll dump some pics from my Antarctica folder.
>>18979186
Nope, the south west Marie Byrd Land is still unclaimed.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territorial_claims_in_Antarctica#Unclaimed
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Byrd_Land
>>18979192
Also the nazi-german Neuschwabenland claim is technically still valid, although not recognized by anone.
Some interesting structures

Detail of the map
2-3 km of drilling isn't too bad. getting the equipment there would be the hard part
The famous hole, real NASA picture.
>>18979221
For us anons maybe, the US and Russia however...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Deep_Freeze
Im not so much on the "ALIUNS!!!1!" but more into the fact that an ancient civ once lived there, maybe like Atlantis or the cradle of civilization
>>18979223
Neat project indeed. https://www.rt.com/news/226127-lake-vostok-russia-water/
Some people speculate they are looking for the entrance to the alleged inner earth that should be around there somewhere, if it exists. Good overview about the topic with some good footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFctltDqyGw
The map: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgNV_qRGHZI
Russians love this stuff.

Stange mountains
What is beneath the mesa?
So called huge skeleton, interesting structure anyway. Some say it's some ancient giant creature, i.e. Leviathan.
>>18979254
i fuckin hope not, that shit looks like a centipede and i dont wanna know what killed it
>>18979252
New to me, interesting. Seems to be a volcano?
https://www.google.com/maps/place/76%C2%B018'00.0%22S+112%C2%B012'00.0%22W/@-76.6040796,-112.3214543,9630a,35y,5.07h,76.14t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d-76.3!4d-112.2
The other mountains around have similar round craters on the top.
The famous letter allegedly sent from the inner earth.
>>18979275
Found it sometime this week. Weird how it doesn't have an actual name or anything and it is just there, looks fucking massive though. I think it could be a huge crater or as you said a volcano went extinct. Could be proof there are cave systems there.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilkes_Land_crater
>this mass anomaly is centered within a larger ring-like structure visible in radar images of the land surface beneath the Antarctic ice cap. This combination suggested to them that the feature may mark the site of a 480 km (300 mi) wide impact crater buried beneath the ice and more than 2.5 times larger than the 180 km (110 mi) Chicxulub crater.
>>18979299
So that's what I found. Still looks slightly volcanic though which is pretty fascinating.
>>18979295
It's Mount Takahe.
https://www.deine-berge.de/Karte/POIs/Kategorie-1-Berge,Gipfel+Staat-33-Antarktis?maptype=Bing&zoom=9&lat=-76.287516&lng=-111.756570
Google maps sucks bad when it comes to Antarctica.
>>18979310
No, the Wilkes Land Crater is on the other side of the continent. See >>18979316 and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Takahe
UFO seen by french seamen near Antarctica. It was quite big when these were released a few years ago but I didn't manage to find the source just now.

Your mom is paranormal.
>>18979349
looks like a blimp, but i dont know why the fuck a blimp would be in antarctica
>>18979349
Found the source, nothing to do with Antarctica however: http://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/arctic-ufo-photographs-uss-trepang-ssn-674-march-1971/#

The tanks are really there, allegedly protecting a crashed UFO in 2011.
>>18979119
I saved this pic. Thanks OP.
>>18979119
wtf? I remember that the first radar pics include two smaller islands on the right side?
I hear it's still cold there to this day
>>18979163
Sauce please????
frosty bump
Ive been there on a special mission with a group I cant really talk about. Anyway yeah alot more goes on there than people think.
>>18982263
Now I dont want to point anything obvious out, but is it weird that the outline of Antarctica looks like a brain?
Ever wonder why Google Earth images over South pole is just a smudge? It relates to earth not being a ball.

the new monolith site in russia, absolutely insane.

Operation high jump
In 1947 admiral Robert E Byrd led an American expedition to Antarctica to supposedly establish the largest practical American presence possible on the continent. This is a fact. This operation did happen. What happened during the operation and what it's intent was is up for debate. It involves 4700 military personnel and the largest US aircraft carrier at the time the USS Philippines. After 8 weeks and many casualties the US forces retreated. Supposedly they were attacked by saucer shaped UFOs. Afterwards Byrd did make a statement on the operation that the US needed to adopt countermeasures to deal with such flying vehicles that could maneuver at high speeds. And travel from pole to pole. Rather than deny the heavy casualty reports, Admiral Byrd revealed in a press interview that Task Force 68 had encountered a new enemy that “could fly from pole to pole at incredible speeds.” Byrd was silenced from discussing the operation again. In 2006 declassified material from Joseph stalins KGB go over what the operation was really about taken from soviet spies embedded in the US government. The US sent a force to eliminate the nazi base at new schwabia Antarctica. They met fierce resistance from strange flying aircraft and suffered significant casualties. These reports were published in the Chilean press where the force docked after retreat.

In the Soviet intelligence report, never before known testimony by two US Navy servicemen with Operation Highjump was revealed. A recent article in New Dawn by Frank Joseph gives a detailed analysis of the two eyewitness accounts, only the latter of which was mentioned in the 2006 Russian documentary. John P. Szehwach, a radioman stationed on the USS Brownson, gave testimony of how UFOs appeared dramatically out of the ocean depths. On January 17, 1947 at 0700 hours, Szehwach said:
I and my shipmates in the pilothouse port side observed for several minutes the bright lights that ascended about 45 degrees into the sky very quickly… We couldn’t i.d., the lights, because our radar was limited to 250 miles in a straight line.[Our Real “War of the Worlds"]
Over the next several weeks, according to the Soviet report, the UFOs flew close over the US naval flotilla which fired on the UFOs which did retaliate with deadly effects. According to Lieutenant John Sayerson, a flying boat pilot:

(holy fucking shit the filter on this board is fucked up something fierce. Pic related since I had to use fucking pastebin to get the flying boat pilots quote because apparently it's being counted as spam)
