Alcohol makes me feel like everything is easy whether or not it actually is. It feels very good to be a little drunk and doing easy tasks, so that's how I use it. I know the sense of ease is "false", so I don't push it, but sometimes I also get hung up fearing things that I know rationally won't be that hard. Alcohol is great for those. It makes them feel more like their real difficulty.
I don't think there's anything paranormal about it, although I've always been fascinated by the term "spirits". It always seemed remarkable to me that people would ever call the much-decried fluid of alcohol by such a sacred name as "spirits".
