>>1192041
I don't know why the character commentary tracks don't get more attention. There's literally 1-4 entire extra tracks of dialog for every episode on the BDs, and only like 5% of it is translated, even though it's hours extra of everything people who like this show like about the dialog.
>>1192497
Yeah, it's a shame they don't get translated.

>>1192497
Because there's no script to work off of it's actually pretty difficult to translate it. Well not difficult per se, just time consuming. And there's less epeen in translating commentary tracks than translating the actual show. You actually have a better shot of learning Japanese so you can understand them than waiting for them to be subbed.

It's an odd sort of anime. It was made at a time before the internet was readily available everywhere. I was interested in it due to the moral implications of how the internet impacted society as a whole from early 1990's to today.
>>1192912
Please never post this again.
Lets get some DMC in here.
>>1191847
Please don't. Youve posted 18 OPs and EDs and only 2 of them were any good. Thats a horrible track record.
Everything about that show is horrible. The constant slideshows you have to pause to read, acquiring a harem simply because you are "nice", Kaiki not being the main character, all the women being batshit crazy because "muh oddities", Koyomi being the worst vampire ever, and lording the "how he became a vampire" story over our heads for like 30 goddamn seasons when its the only notable thing in the entire shitty universe.
They are finally making that story but it looks like more typical Koyomi getting the shit beat out of him to stall for a non shitty character to come in and save the day.

You dumb nigger you're not supposed to read them. They aired these episodes on TV, they're meant to just be flashes of text where you catch a few words or maybe a sentence only. The rest of what you wrote confirms you're literally too stupid to watch Monogatari.
>>1193829
Next week we learn Hayate's dad killed Freya's family and it'll go up like the Lusitania.
>>1193492
It took 3 seasons for me to realize it was never gonna get any better. I just finished watching Birdy Decode and that anime had more action in 2 episodes than Monogatari had in every season to date.

>>1192873

>>1193970
>To be artsy?
Yes. In case all the real-world photos, color frames, and surreal imagery somehow escaped your notice. There's no meaning or purpose behind any of it besides to be visually appealing and interesting. There's really nothing to "get" in Monogatari, it's a very shallow anime. Yet you still get people like you who manage to overthink it.
>>1193970
I treat it like fluff text in a video game, like the books in Skyrim. In no way are they required to play or enjoy the game, but some people seek them out in order to understand more about the lore of the world.
If you're interested in delving more into the personalities of the characters than is required to understand what's going on, feel free to pause and read it. If you're not, than fuck it and don't worry about it.
>>1193970
>>1194405
>>1194422
They add in bits and pieces of the light novels they're based off of. It's ultimately a really crafty way of stating, "this is the part of the novel we're adapting in this chunk of this episode."
Read some of the LNs. If you don't particularly take to them, you won't enjoy the show. They do a pretty good job of adapting the novels. It's essentially an Audiobook+
If you read the LNs and enjoy them, then you'll love the show. It's fantastic, and the storyline is intricately woven in just about every scene, every line of dialogue, every forced fanservice shot. The anime is truly a masterpiece in terms of adaptation - though they did fuck over some arcs.

Ah, Ronin Warriors - where the entire primary dub cast got head colds and were out for the recording of the second episode, the dub itself was one of the least Macekered dubs of its time, and NO ONE caught the brief moment where Lady Kayura was naked (not even Cartoon Network).
God, I miss the '90s.

It's not like they use it throughout the entire fight. Just in a few scenes that are up close and personal. That's when shaky cam works since it builds tension. It's only when it's used 100% of the time to the point that you have no idea wtf is going on like The Bourne Supremacy that shaky cam is bad.
>>1191842
>>1195290
i remember the nudity, and i'm sure everyone in my class at the time does as well.
and you're right, despite sounding goofy now, most of the show is surprisingly intact.
it's really pretty amazing considering the time period
>>1194405
I wouldn't say I'm overthinking it. It just boggles my mind that they spent all that time and effort on trivial stuff like that when they could have spent it on a well choreographed fight scene that's not super freaking one sided.
But then again, a well choreographed fight scene is as rare as unicorn tears in the world of anime.
>>1195609
>>1195663
So, you got me curious now...How much of that nudity slipped past the censors anyways?
>>1194776
>dub with japanese sub

>>1195183
can't find "Boku H" from the title of the webm
is this "Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai."/"So, I Can't Play H!"?
>>1195646
It's just visuals for the sake of visuals, because Monogatari most of the content is in the dialogue. Some episodes it's just two talking for the entire episode, or even one person monologuing for more than half an episode. How do you animate that? If you follow the source literally, you don't really animate much of anything. So liberties are taken to make it visually interesting. They put a lot of creativity into it. There's a reason Monogatari is so popular. The amazing seiyuu cast isn't all that's holding it up.
>>1195575
It makes some scenes feel more dynamic, but you'll notice in Sword of the Stranger that the camera also pulls out for steady wide angle shots and doesn't just do closeup shaky cam for the whole fight.
>>1195575
In the world of video recording, moving cameras during action scenes can simulate more action than there is. This is also brought in to anime and cartoons.
>>1195675
There was only one scene with Kayura naked; it was a few seconds long at best, and it showed up on both syndication and Toonami. No one ever caught it, AFAIK, and if they did, they must've thought it akin to a Sailor Moon transformation sequence (which it was, but still).
>>1195609
It was violent, but not bloody, and the general plot didn't need much editing in terms of dialogue. Aside from some wonky editing in Episode 2, the name changes, and Yuli somehow being more annoying in the dub than in the sub, the dub is as faithful to the original as it possibly could've been. That's not to say I wouldn't mind seeing a proper redub, though I can't imagine Ryo with a different voice.
Also, if anyone has a webm of the first time Ryo gets the Wildfire Armor, I'd appreciate it. Doubly so if it's the dub, because I love Talpa's lines after Ryo appears ("WHAT?! You still live? Good! I shall take great pleasure in killing you again!").

I'm a dumbass and posted in a dead thread.
How high should I set CRF and Tolerance if I'm trying to cut down on space? I'm just converting a minute long clip and it's HUGE.
Res is 640 x 360
Variable
High Quality
Audio 1, CRF is 20, Tolerance at 30
>>1196447
If you're using WebM for Retards, the tolerance is +/- 30, meaning your min is 0 (maximum quality) and your max is 50 (shit quality).
Do something like 33 with a tolerance of 3 to start out with.
>>1196447
You might be using the bugged version of WfR that had a broken Variable mode.

unfortunately they're very much products of their time, both economically and stylistically. It's unlikely we'll see a return to this style without a massive shift in the artistic landscape (and a return to the ova economic model is almost an impossibility).
>>1195646
The problem is that the whole thing is an adaptation of an extremely wordy series of novels, so adding "well choreographed fights" would be fucking meaningless because the fights don't really mean much in the overall narrative beyond being an artistic choice. They'd be just about as useless as "the artsy" stuff, only a lot more expensive.
>>1196719
It's basically a series of self-indulgent case studies about various mental issues and traumas by way of visual and narrative metaphors represented as in-universe supernatural beings, with the MC essentially working as a psychiatrist, helping and guiding characters along the way to improving themselves and giving them short-term solutions to give them time to sort their problems out. The later seasons also use this to study the MC himself.

I had a chance to pick up a lot of like sixty 80-90s anime vhs tapes from a closed down blockbuster and passed it up, it's been 3 years and I regret it every day. Most of the sleeves had gritty looking but beautiful drawn biomechanical nightmares on them and I left them to die in that storage unit.
>>1202426
It was actually due to being close to Lain that she got within the borders between the real world and 'The Wired' which is why the scenes before that webm was her teleporting all over the place. Her existence became trapped, so another copy took place and she was wiped.
