Don't get me wrong, overall the game was definitely made easier, but in a vacuum, the fight isn't that much easier. The levels are lower, yes, but that's because the EXP gained on the way there has also changed.

Why is this such a big deal? I always hated caves, Unknown Dungeon (and Mt. Coronet) especially, with all the Flash/Strength BS ensuring I had to waste a slot for shit HMs. Just a long slog through Zubats and Geodudes, and the Unknown Dungeon is no different, except it's a long slog through Golbats and really fast lvl 60+ Kadabras that you can't run from, in the generation where Psychic murdered everything. The only reason anyone ever went in the Unknown Dungeon is to catch Mewtwo anyway.

Yeah, you're right. I guess my point is that it's stupid to get upset over little things that aren't a challenge and are more in place to pad time or annoy you. E.g. healing before a Blue fight after a long cave or finding a healer mid-cave. If you make it to the end and end up losing / white out, it just seems like a cheap way to punish the player. yeah actually I replayed blue last week a little bit, got until casino with 4 badges and venusaur level 36.
Game was really hard sometimes, because I mostly leveled up the -saur line and literally everywhere there were a threat against it. Rival had flying type, psych(which is the most op thing ingame) and fire against me. Also whole caves are filled with bats and rocket also mostly has bats.

Also if you really forget some potions you could easily loose. Also saur line has kinda shit movepool when it comes to level up or tms.
