Nothing really. I'll just slap my Umbreon/Zoroark with field blowers and Choice bands and hopefully it works.

I've printed out a couple of those items and included them in my deck against my friends. Field blower is great for removing FFBs and I'm quite glad. Haven't experienced tool removal since I started after Tool Scrapper and Megaphone Rotated.

Do you tend to go for reverse holo over normal holos? I see most people using reverse holos in videos, I guess because there's more foil on the card and they don't look as plain as the normal kind.

putting a basic attacker in a deck like that will lose more games due to reduced consistency than it will win in the odd Glaceon scenario which as I said is basically a coinflip anyways, you can't say it's a good matchup since if I item lock first turn you need to draw into Glaceon and 2 energy cards before I amass an insurmountable advantage.

Even if Glaceon and its energies come out, I can usually stall with AZ until I draw into Lysandre then pick off something on your bench.

So out of 305 decks total.

Mewtwo was the most played deck at 13% but took only 6% of placements. Pretty bad performance.

If you round it off a bit, you can say that Volc, Decidueye and Yveltal made up about 10% of the decks played each. Decidueye overperformed with 25% of placements, Volcanion is right on expectation and Yveltal massively underperformed. I think the underperformance of Mewtwo and Yveltal might be due to the age of the lists, a lot of new players use them since older players recommend them. These are still good decks but most of the people playing them are probably less effective pilots of them.

Turbo Dark, the winner of the event was 7% of decks and took 16% of placements including 3 of the top 4 IIRC. I think Wobbs techs very well into this deck which makes it good against Decidumeme. Darkrai/Dragons performed about at par by comparison. This reverses what I thought most people thought about the meta, people were saying Dragons was the better deck after the last standard event.

Megaray and Quad Lapras both performed at par. Big underperformance from vespiquen. Eevee Rainbow was dogshit, it turns out.

Sample size for anything below that is too small to draw anything from imo but Tauros/Hammers is funnily enough a deck with a 100% placement rate. Only 2 people ran it and both got top 32.

On the whole it's looking to be a worlds with Darkrai and Decdiueye heavily represented.

Top 32 overall looks pretty diverse with the sole exception being the mass of Decidueye.

it's a bit of an overstatement to say vespiquen underperformed. With this setup you'd expect, if all decks were equal, for about 1 in every 10 plays of a deck to make top 32.

So the top 32, if all things were equal, would have been

4 Mewtwo
3 Decidueye
3 Volcanion
3 Yveltal
2 Darkrai Turbo
2 Darkrai Dragons
1 Megaray
1 Vespiquen
1 Lapras
1 Umbreon/Eevees

then the remaining third of the placements would be assorted decks from the other category and decks with less than 10 players. Vespiquen 'should have' gotten one or two placements and that's what it got.

for those getting into TCG IRL DO NOT bother with old staples other than ultra ball sycamore and N. Everything else just buy SM and up and you will be set. I suggest just buying a elite trainer box for the sleeves and other stuff then just buying the rest of the cards you need as singles

Save up money for now, theres no point into getting into standard now since soon a bunch of cards will rotate in September. Expensive as fuck cards like shymin and VS seeker will soon leave so buying them now only to use them for a couple months is pre useless. This new coming set in may will be one of the bests sets since roaring skys so that elite trainer box you get has a huge chance of you getting a lot of the new staple trainer cards with just that buy. After which you should just be able to scoop up the rest in singles and your set.

Horrible idea, never choose to go second. The only deck that would ever want to go second is one that has very reliable turn 1 wins without a latios/shiftry/forretress sort of gimmick, which doesn't even exist
Going first, even if you have a good early attack exe Lapras is always bad. Getting the first attack is less important than better setup, also the high risk of vileplumes. Even if going second is slightly more advantageous for you, going first for your opponent will always be more advantageous for them than whatever you gain. More setup > decent chance of turn 1 attack

because people do subscribe. at least 42 judging by the amount of premium competitors in this month's tourney. and that's just the ones who signed up for that. Every other PTCG article site I know of runs a similar model with the exception of the Charizard Lounge - who only release about 1-2 articles per month. if people are willing to pay, then it makes sense to charge.

I tried it out for three months to see if the articles were actually worth it. Not really. But made my money back in tournament prizes from their monthly cup and then some. better prizes for premium members see. so no big loss.

It's still an okay deck. It's just stupidly efficient, the way its damage scales lets you basically custom tailor how much you need to swing for.

Pic related was designed as the direct hard counter to it. It turned out to be OP and ended up banned. Leaving Night March free to shit all over the format for a painfully long time. Plus it was relatively cheap bar the Shaymin and was recommended to every spare tit as a good entry point. So now every new player is playing it and playing it poorly. Add to that the deck could tear through 40 cards on T1 and 50% of the players are slow as fucks newbies and you've got a recipe for pure concentrated cancer.

How many times do I have to lose in Versus before I start facing people on my level? I run soft Expanded decks and I see night march, vileplumes, and GXs for days. I've lost about 20 in a row with no end in sight. Why am I playing such good decks with my shit decks?

It really wasn't THAT bad, it was how well it synergized with Toad that really pushed it over, letting you pretty much infinitely recycle your resources in a deck that'd otherwise quickly run out. Other decks were quite capable of abusing it too (a lot of otherwise completely irrelevant decks were decently viable because of it), but simply not to the extent Toad was. If LTC was printed in a format with less Items that were some sort of hate, it would probably not be played anywhere near to the level that it was.

What have people been pairing Lurantis with outside of Vileplume/Solgaleo?

I've been trying random Pokemon with similar trainers and it's been pretty fun. The deck is pretty simple to play and I have not dead drawn very often as there are a lot of cards to start accelerating with. Starting 4 energy and a Sycamore is a dream now not a burden.

I've also tried M Venusaur for the paralyze which has been good (running mega turbo and max potion as well) and was thinking of trying M Mewtwo as I wouldn't need the special energy.

It also 2HKO Darkrai and Tauros with 2 energy due to weakness. And you can definitely spend some time to add a third to OHKO Tauros so you don't get hit by its GX attack.

That is not a bad start by far. It's not instant tier 1, but it is not dead on arrival either.

I assume the first attack is geodudes, the cost is unfortunate given that you need to discard bench resources AND it's on a stage 2. If it was a 1 energy attack it would be good. 2nd and GX attack are both shit, the one application of that GX attack is in combination with Dragonair but you're going to get N'd so hard using it.

Solgaleo, who sees no play because of how hard he is to get out.
Lunala, who sees no play because of how hard it is to get out and how ability lock kills it.

Like, I get that there are complete morons in these threads that don't understand the slightest thing about what makes a card good or bad in a metagame, but I'd appreciate if sometimes people would at least try to think about what they say before you open your mouth.

Any deck that uses Rare Candy will lose to Vileplume, uniquely, because their main attacker will never get to see the light of day. Machoke will do nothing against Vileplume/Owls because you will need to be drawing into all your pokemon and energy in a row without fail, and Owls can just hit the active. All you need is to get Lysandred once or draw badly once or miss an energy attachment once and you will lose. Even if you slowly get your Machamp out, you are going to be two shotting their Owls and Lugias/Leles (best case scenario) while they two shot you, and then you're stuck because you put all your eggs in one basket while they can just promote another attacker.

Old exs were basically a marginal bump compared to their non-ex counterparts for the extra prize, which is likely why the mechanic only lasted a few sets before being scrapped. Their "mechanic" wasn't very interesting.

Then they changed up the game to make EXs huge flashy basics in a meta with overall much stronger stage 1/2s. They worked better both mechanically and in marketing, which is why they stuck around so long the 2nd time around, and had the mechanic graduated into GXs in Sun and Moon.

Well standard doesn't have much good discard support and I have actually found it useful in some situations.

Since Lurantis doesn't actually need much item support to start your bench up, Misty has been good. A few times I have been able to discard a basic, grab professors letter and then use ultra ball to discard more energy and put a Darkrai on bench and start loading up.

It can also help dig for that special energy or a float if you need it with the added bonus of getting to put a basic energy into the discard.
