What pissed me off the most about EVO as a set is that it didn't even hint at the haymaker cards being good. They should have made Hitmonchan a 120hp big basic with a very energy efficient attack, like 50 for 1 fighting, which would be 70 with a strong energy. Then Special Punch could be like 100 for FCC, hits 130 with FFB and 1 strong energy.

But nah they made it a useless card like every basically every card in that set.

So, what's the best way to play casually with friends on a budget? Different financial situations killed my MtG playgroup years ago. Years later, switching to a "one booster a week" rule helped keep everyone on an even playing field while still cracking good, playable, cards to improve decks. Is something similar possible in Pokemon, or will it lead to too many useless packs?

4 energy on a stage 2 pokemon, and the bonus effect can be played around as an EX with a belt needs to be affected twice before it's a problem.

Lapras GX does the bulky water mon thing better and doesn't need links + evolution to hit for 160.

Lapras GX is the pokemon who really won out with aqua patch as it means you can easily turn 2 attack for 160 or 190 with choice band or in an optimal world 210 with Kukui.
Kyogre can't due to links and maxes out at 180 even with Kukui.

The strongest decks are ones that can inflict massive damage quickly. This is done through attacks with damage multipliers (M-Mewtwo, Darkrai, Vespiquen, etc) or abilities that inflict/boost damage (Volcanion, Decidueye etc.). Either way, the more cards you draw the better position you are in so draw power is vital. Disruption is also useful, but you need cheap, heavy damage to be top tier.

I play Yveltal/Garb. I tend to use Shaymin once if at all before I get Garb set up, and Oranguru has a similar attack to Yveltal, so I could just as easily use it. Oranguru has 10 more HP than Shaymin too

The shaymeme based economy collapses but TCPI shouldn't give a rats ass about what its Jewish trader players are valuing cards at, it should want to make money and make the game accessible to as many players as possible.

Including RL shaymemes in packs would bust the RL secondary card market which negatively impacts the RL market for boosters. But even ROS/PLF code cards are worth like $0.70 at most, those losing value doesn't really change the value of a real pack very much.

And let's get real nobody actually buys packs just for a code card and the people who do don't buy a lot of packs. You can have like a dozen or more codes for the price of one pack. If you only play online.

As for specific decklists being more common, compared to what? I played 15 games today, ran into 3 darkrai turbos, 7 variations on grass itemlock, 4 ghetto budget water boxes and a megaray. Even going out more than my small sample today, I'd say that 50-60% of the standard ladder is turbo dark or grass item lock. Once you have Shaymins it's basically trivial to get the cards for any decklist you want.

They definitely should to an extent. If the price of singles drops exponentially, then stores won't want to carry any products, because people will just buy singles, meaning fewer people buy from the company. I've seen this happen with Force of Will, and local scenes die because of it.

That said, they shouldn't go full WoTC. Shaymin should have gotten an extremely mass produced tin or some form of reprint a long ass time ago.

Two Misty is at least one more than you need too, if not two too many. You need some Hex Maniac - at least one. Forcing Wobbers into the active isn't going to cut it with so much of it about. You should have at least one professor's letter so you can use skyla to get energy in emergencies.

I never played fight alone lucario, but since you have to chain set up them, you should try to maximize the level balls.

Reverse Valley doesn't make much sense. Silent Lab could save you from baby Volcanion and screw your opponents Shaymin plays if you miss them with pokepuff.

Try Solgaleo/Lurantis if you can get enough value for the cards, the deck runs reasonably well without Shaymins, sure as hell better than Lucario meme. I have a Lucario meme deck but it's easily the most miserable to play deck I haven't broken up yet.

Funnily enough, Sol/Lurantis was the deck I faced last that made me question my deck. I only managed to knock out two of his mons before getting run over. It seems to be a pretty competent deck. I have a memeowl I could probably pawn off of need be.

Solg/Lurantis usually matches up poorly against single prize decks. But yeah, it's actually pretty good, Sol Burst usually sets up 2 Sunsteel Strikes (2nd Solgaleo comes out quickly after the first one, usually) and gets a grass energy on lurantis, then if you can get an attachment and get another sunsteel prepared the next turn with a flower supply.

Against single prize decks you usually just drop 3 grass on a Lurantis and get 1 sunsteel ready on Solgaleo, then go in. The deck will be significantly better with Altar of the Sunne since right now Volcanion and the random AOR Flareon techs are difficult to deal with.

If you insist on running Lucario try it with Wonder Lock Klefki, plenty of buddy-buddy rescue, at least you can take a run at some Mega decks, and you can tweak your bench size.

I like to run it with Genesect alongside - a secondary attacker who can juggle tools while you shuffle through your deck or just to soak up damage. Forces your opponent to make decisions instead of just steam-rolling all your Lucario.

It's still not great and has gotten even worse since the GX meta-shift. Should get you through challenges though, just slowly.

Used to be cards like pic related that allowed you put specific cards to the bottom of your deck, which obviously made the archetype more viable, but there hasn't been anything similar and standard-legal in a fair while now.
