It's pretty much a given Serena will possibly be in the Sun & Moon anime and the anime staff are just hiding her on purpose from all promotions.
They mention watching XY & Z until the end to see a twist ending and bigger surprises and every game promotional video has the main girl of Sun and Moon look like Serena and have her named "Selene" - Se-re-ne/na.

I honestly think they should stop baiting and trolling and just let us know already.

The games have something that is similar to contests/performances and the academy will likely have a class that teaches such and more which should be a perfect excuse to have Serena appear.
