Why would you bother watching when you know that they don't care about the dub? This isn't the late 90s or very early 2000s where 4kids ran the dub and while it wasn't perfect they actually cared about it. TPCi took over to cut costs.

I looked her up and her roles in the 4kids dub were alright, one of Misty's sisters and Sabrina being the main ones.

She also did the voiceacting for the water type trainer in the first film and I can't recall that being that bad.

Well, that makes sense since 4Kids actually bothered to direct their cast back then and Ortiz put some modicum of effort in those days.

The English dub has gone very downhill since then, and yes, it's ironic a dub would get much worse when 4Kids left, but Pokemon seems to be the exception.

The early (4Kids) Pokemon dub has redemption in that they cast voice actors people actually knew in well regarded roles as the main cast who actually fit their parts, the script had actual wit and characters spoke like human beings, they kept more of the Japanese OST back then, the dub music wasn't glaringly misplaced like it is now, and the intros were double the length of the ones the dub shits out now.

The TPCi Pokemon dub is downright terrible, on the other hand, we have miscast voice actors in roles that don't suit them in the main cast (worst being Ash, TR, and Bonnie if you ask me), the script is horrendous and chock full of slang, rhymes, and alliterations dispersed everywhere, 85-90% of the Japanese music is gone & replaced with UFO, elevator, as well as accordion tunes, along with 29 second intros now not helping.

tl;dr Don't watch the dub from Seasons 9+, only watch it for Seasons 1-8, and then watch Japanese Version for 9-19 onwards

The point where the dub goes downhill is right when TPCi takes over there, coincidentally, you're spot on. Would you believe it's been 10 years since then and it's actually gotten worse than when they first started?

The sad part is even the Battle Frontier dub is more watchable than the XY-XYZ dub- even TPCi didn't shit out UFO dub music back then, their script for TR wasn't nearly as bad back then since they were trying to be 4Kids clones in those days, and they didn't replace as much of the Japanese music back then as they do now. Also, Ash's voice (while still being bad relative to Veronica Taylor) wasn't as grating as it is now, same goes for TR's current voices.

Pokeani is dead at this point. Why do people still bother.

I honestly found the subs to be far more enjoyable than TPCi's crap immediately when I saw some of DP subbed as my first taste of them as a teenager, actually, and it also makes no sense for some dubfags to have nostalgia for it since 4Kids did the dub first and their dub voices (and generally dubbing style) were completely different from TPCi's.

Seeing dub clips these days makes me wonder how kids still watch it. Western cartoons have much better voicacting than the current dub, Adventure Time(the only main one I've seen that's still on the air) for example is very well done.

The dub did get better for Diamond and Pearl. Barry, Dawn, Piplup, Paul, Roark, Gardenia and Nando being some characters I can remember off the top of my head who had good or at least acceptable for a dub voices.

The quality drop from Diamond and Pearl to Best Wishes is jarring. Almost all of the voices are insufferable.

When I was younger myself and people at school noticed the change of the voices and none of us liked it. It's not as if kids are too stupid to get what's going on.

Just because something is made with children in mind doesn't mean it needs to be shit.

Opinions in Japan are mix as well but it isn't as panned as it is by the west. Who knows, people might love it. We started off Kalos thinking it was going to Unova all over again but things got better once we hit Korrina's arc.

I agree with both of you, and don't get me started on Team Rocket's current dub voices...James and Meowth both sound too old, Jessie and Oak sound too young, and some of the XY Pokemon have the worst dub voices ever in the history of the dub. Goodra sounds like a derpy Scooby Doo, Talonflame went from a dumb joke to some nasally voice, and Greninja sounds like Gollum from Lord of the Rings.

I mean, I know TPCi have never really been good dubbers, but this is shit, even by their standards.

The dub has the problem of not only never shutting up with its synthesized score, but also has the problem of using completely unfitting elevator music in battles and fake accordion tones when other characters speak for no goddamn reason. Also, the TPCi dub's voice acting is horrid, and slang like "Bring it" doesn't help my impression of its dialogue.

The dub dumped its tolerable crew for the "sound-alikes" off the street when TAJ took over and they refused to change back to the competent cast, then DuArt took over and made the dub even worse than it was with TAJ starring Jimmy Zoppi's "TR, My Way is Funniest" dialogue along with the already shit dialogue he gives Ash & co, and in XY, the dub has begun replacing more of the Japanese OST than it ever did before.

I do care, but I have no reason to watch the dub, because TPCi's dub has:

You know why those older seasons had more viewers? Because TV in general was doing a whole lot fucking better back then, it had fuck all to do with the show's production values, nobody notices that shit but autists.
