As you know, the whole XY series has broken a lot of patterns from previous seasons (Serena subplot, the League not being the main focus, fully evolved team, etc), but it may all end in nothing at the end and return to the old ways of Pokemon

In the DP series, Ash lost to Paul constantly, but Ash's Pokemon often evolved during their matches, and on top of that, Ash ended up using Paul's former Chimchar against him. Ash finally won against him, using that Chimchar who he cared and loved for and raised into a powerful Infernape. Ash might not have won the tournament afterwards, but what matters the most is that he beat Paul, in a pretty emotional and satisfying way.

Ash has not beat Alain once. On top of that, didn't the villainous team and legendary subplot get wrapped up long before the final tournament arcs in DP? While here, it's just about to begin.

Regardless, most dubs are absolutely terrible and Pokemon XY is not one of the exceptions to that rule. Oh and calling people their English names is fucking stupid, the only reason it's done in Pokemon is because people play the games in English. So go ahead and call the Pokemon their English names (obviously), and it doesn't really matter if you call Citron or Eureka Clemont or Bonnie. The League ending was bullshit, this is true, but the series itself is good. One fucking loss doesn't change the fact that the rest of the series has been filled with well animated fights, comfy adventures through Kalos and overall has redeemed Kalos' shitty aspects by breathing much needed life into the characters and locations it introduces.
