Coming in from Sinnoh, Ash had been doing better every conference. He went from a top 16 placement, to two top 8 placements, and then to a fucking top 4 placement, and his last two losses were to the eventual champions.

Going into B/W, no one expected Ash to do significantly fucking WORSE and only just barely crack the top 8, when he had just had a top 4 showing. Sure the episode titles showed us when we finally go there, but it was still complete bullshit. It's literally been the only time Ash regressed in his league showings.

How would Ash Sinnoh Team do against Alan's?. We have Pikachu that can take Tyranitar and Metagross out. Then prrtty much everyone else is stronger than Alan's other Pokemon. I believe Ash would maybe still lose but his Team would still perform better.

I wouldn't say that Misty was built up to be Ash's one true love or anything like that, but there was actual romantic interactions that occurred between the two (however small), and their feelings were obviously at least partially mutual. They had a relationship that was progressing beyond just friendship.

With Serena it's not the same - Ash never looks at her differently than he would look at Brock. There's no reciprocation, it's all just Serena fawning over Ash. Which again, is fine, she has plenty of reasons to be in love with Ash, but he's not feeling it. Their relationship has never progressed past friends.

I have no problem with Serena going to Alola (however unlikely it looks), but so far there's been no romance involving Serena at all.
