Alain winning betrays the narrative, which was leading to Ash winning. But the fight was more fair (it actually went to the sixth Pokemon, and Charizard, as overpowered as he was, stumbled after fighting Greninja, something we didn't see him doing ever before) and he was an actual character.

Tobias fight was bullshit with winning only using two broken Pokemon (for the anime standards), and he wasn't a real character, but the stakes weren't as high, as Ash had already met his main objective, defeating Paul, so it wasn't as disappointing, narrative-wise.

If we look at the Kalos fight from a standalone perspective, without all the rediculously amount of hype that was poured into it, Alain's win seems very deserved.

The Kalos region in general hyping up AshFrog was a fucking cocktease and they fucking blueballed us, but I can't blame Alain for that - the marketers are primarily at fault for trying to hype everyone's shit up, and I can't help but think they got their hands on the writing too when we consider the episode title.

Ash deserves a league win, and WE deserve an Ash win after all the fucking chain yanking, but Alain doesn't deserve a random out of nowhere loss to Ash - he just should never have entered the tournament in the first place.

I disagree, Alan losing to Ash would not have been out of nowhere or random. It was what was being built up to all series long. Just because Alan was hyped up to being very strong doesn't mean that Ash couldn't have beaten him. A close battle with Ash taking out Alan would have been a great league finale, although at this point it seems very likely that this rematch will take place during the TF arc.
