I miss Conway

My only problem with Dawn is her personality did get stagnant after the halfway point of DP. Besides her practicing Contest appeals, her personality didn't change much for the rest of the saga. Her interaction with her rivals was stagnant too, nothing changed between her and Zoey/Kenny at all. Maybe if Ursula appeared more it would have been better.

DP began 10 years ago back in 2006. Is it a surprise some people have gotten nostalgic for it? Especially for those of us who were watching it when it originally aired.

DP is also where people started watching the Japanese version more regularly for the first time due to the dub VA switch. Only a very small percentage of the fandom watched AG in Japanese when it was airing, and not till the later half of it. Back in 2002-2005 most of us were young teenagers and had no idea how to download torrents.

Contest succeeded because the Sakura/Syaoran vibes. May was the klutz girl and Drew was the arrogant ace boy just like Syaoran.

They tried the osananajimi route with Dawn and Kenny, but kinda backfired because pearl was popular when DP started. Keep in mind Inuyasha was still a big thing there in Japan, despite the anime being put on hiatus and Dawn had some resemblance with Kagome.

Hoenn didn't have the issue quite as bad due to Brock being established and May and Max really meshing with them, but the XY cast is fairly weak.
Bonnie is okay because she's really more of a relief character and her 'gimmick' is only occasional and is made up by her adorableness over things, but Clemont is forced hard with his stupid inventions.
And then Serena, after 36 episodes, all I know about her is that she was helped by Ash once at a camp, has a crush on him for it, likes fashion, and her mom is a racer.

I am basically a pokeshipper and like 70% of the basis behind it is dub fuckery or otherwise non-canon things. Yeah, there were hints and what people could call chemistry, but it wasn't a focus.

If the writers knew now what they did back then, I suspect Misty and Brock would have been axed in the anime a lot earlier than they were. It seems the writers were reluctant to remove them at first because they had no idea if the anime would be successfull without Ash's first two companions.

That's why Misty got so many specials/cameos in AG. The writers were keeping Misty's character alive just in case May backfired or they had to return to her. You could tell when Hoenn was airing they were leaving the door open for Misty to return. Its only once they realized how quickly May became popular and the Contests took off in the series, it made them realize they had no reason to go back to Misty.

I think it says a lot Misty's final episode was AG134, right after Ash came home from the Hoenn league. The writers probably knew back then that would be one of her final eps of the series. Once Battle Frontier started Misty never did appear again outside of flashbacks.

The funny thing is that had /padt/ existed back then, those hints would very probably have been taken as way more significant than they are now. Just look at the way every single sentence or gesture is dissecated in here and overanalyzed for weeks on end and try to imagine the same with Misty back in the day.

The dub changes are one thing, but OS had its shipping moments and thinking about it I'm glad this thread wasn't around then.

The sad thing is female fans saw Misty as some sort of role model because of her temper/attitude and think all females have to be that way. That's why Misty fans bashed May and Dawn for years, they saw them as "girly replacements" and weren't as tough as Misty was.

There are several scenes where you could easily say her admiration of him grew (there's tons of scenes where her worry or concern over him was given now focus than everyone else's). I would be comfortable in saying that her feelings for him are now mature and fully realized than they were before, especially considering how she acted in XY&Z29 (the rematch, forgive me if I've got the numbers off).

She welcomed him back and confidently accepted the fist bump instead of being flustered that he singled her out. That means something significant.
