is there any real reason why Ash isn't allowed to win this league and then move on to the elite 4? It's not like winning the league makes you champion or anything. He could still lose in the end, but not appear as an incompetent retard like in all the other seasons.

Through his travels, Ash has always met up and battled a few of the Elite fours and lost. So its not like he needs to fight them officially to figure out that he still needs more training. Rather it shows that he wasn't ready to face them during the DP or AG series even if he did win the league.

With Synchro greninja, Ash is already Champion tier or arguably the strongest trainer. Since Ash is currently the only one that has it.

I would like it if ash wins the league to face the E4. But right now I have mixed feelings of whether it matters now. Seeing how close he beat Diantha.

The Sun/Moon girl looks like a mix of girly and adventurous. She doesn't have that overly girly vibe even game Dawn and Serena have with the long hair, skirts, and pocketbooks but more of a inbetween vibe similar to May.

Hopefully none of the female Gym leaders in Sun/Moon are young 10 year olds. If they're all older females similar to Flannery, Skyla, Elesa, etc...they won't be considered for the next main girl of the anime.

In Johto all the Gym leaders were too old, Whitney, Jasmine and Claire...its easy to see why there was no good Misty replacement back then.

The thing is the writers learned how to make characters into actual characters.

Misty/Brock were such background material in Johto you didn't even realize they were there half the time. Nothing Misty/Brock did ever mattered or affected the saga much, outside a few one-off things. Neither had any story arcs, rivals, major battles, or focus outside the odd filler episode.

Misty and Brock were never in the anime to be actual characters, and that was the problem.

An entire arc dedicated to the development of Clemont in order for him to become Ash's equal as a trainer even flashback episodes, an entire character arc surrounding Serena trying to find her goal and deciding for herself what she truly wants, hell, she was even central to Ash's development in is depression, and there's Bonnie who had several episodes dedicated to her growing close to a Pokemon only to let it go which will become another big player in the coming Flare Arc she literally has a legendary Pokemon with her.

You don't see that as an interesting subplot? The gang struggling to find a way to overcome their weaknesses? Hell, Clemont's is unique since his goal is intangible, and can only be measured by his battle with Ash at the end. Even then, his "personal charm" which you apparently don't like, is actually fucking useful for once in aiding Ash.

Even in the first XY Teaser, we saw a clip of Calem and Serena in Santalune Forest for a few frames.
