Not really, for the very same reason some anons believe it would. The audience always gets replaced every couple of years. You will never be able to keep more then a fragment of your old audience interested, no matter what you do. But for anyone new to the series a new protagonist wouldn't be any more meaningful than the usual soft-reset.
